Hard working slippers on the course. ALL day they slide sideways, then snow plow and FAST!

The dye team, all day these guys are up and down spraying the course.

Training run

There's still an Olympics? I thought there was just going to be a mega hockey tournament with a bunch of boring events held during intermissions?
Was also at opening ceremony rehearsal. Cool in person, quite the production. I saw some plaid though it wasn't on any loggers, unless loggers are wearing skirts these days. Tried to watch some DH training on Wed, but the visibility had the training on hold so I just kept skiing the empty mountain.
Definitely cool energy all around except when near large crowds in royal blue coats. I know its a bit of a clusterfuck in some ways, but the winter Olympics are cool and I am glad to be able to be there for some of it
cool pics, thanks for posting
Nodar Kumaritashvili, a Georgian Luger died after crashing in practice.

Mens DH training. I will upload more photos when I have time. Ladies DH training canceled due to visisbility. We have an over night shift of course workers heading up from 10pm to 7am tomorrow, but lots of snow forecasted, so it doesn't look good for the mens DH until Monday.
Peak chair was pretty awesome when it opened this am. Took a run down Khyber, but it was shit for the bottom 1/2.

Not sure if this has been posted already, but here's a pretty cool interactive map of the venues by the the NY times:

Just got back from ski jumping - preliminary round. It was wonderful weather in the Callaghan. The crowd was stoked. I hopped on the bus at Whistler's Lot 5 at about 8.15 and was at the venue at about 845am. It was a 15 minute walk to the ski jump itself.

The event proper kicked off at 10am. Top 50 qualify. There's a range of airtime between the bottom guys and the top. The top skiers go so far they almost go past the HS (Holy shit?) warning line of 105m.

This guy went pretty far past the HS line and almost drove his knees through his chin

I know nothing about the gear but it looks deadly.

I managed to bug Phil Liggett (he's announcing for a UK channel but just there on a day off) for a photo. His wife had some fancy camera setup!

It took a bit longer to get back. 45 - 55 minute lineups for the bus.

actualy those green bibs are the stewards ,the gate judges have blue bibs and the purple bibs are the slip crew
normaly at a race they call the dye crew " the smurfs" because their hands/skis/ clothes ...everything they wear gets covered in blue dye but for the olympics all the clothing they gave us is that same color of blue
I read a rumor that Rush will be performing at the Opening Ceremony as part of a celebration of Canadian music. Closer To The Heart & YYZ were mentioned as possibilities. Can anyone who saw the test run confirm?
And now for the rant:
Fucking NBC! I live on the west coast in the same time zone as these Olympics are being held but do I get to see anything live? No fucking way! NBC in their infinite wisdom (blind greed & plain stupidity maybe) will broadcast to the east coast live but I get tape delay. Just about every country in the world gets the live feed, my Aussie GF confirms her family down unda gets it live even if it's the middle of the fucking night down there. Conan was right about everything he said about the morons who run that network. God I hope ESPN outbids NBC for future games.
Much thanks to everyone posting pix and Olympic TRs. It's like having our own Maggot News Service at the event!
NBC sucks ass for showing luge wreck multiple times, the fucking kid died hitting an I-beam. Fucking bullshit on NBC. I can not believe how the fucking media thinks we need to see that.
I was just going to same the same thing! Have some respect for his Team-mates, Family, and fellow competitors! I was watching the news and they played it THREE TIMES. Once in slow-mode! Unreal. Announcing this tragedy is one thing, but showing him die on TV over and over again? Seriously?
(I wasn't the attending paramedic on scene, but if your back makes contact with a Steel I-beam at 140km/h I'm pretty sure it was death on contact due to your spine being severed.)
My feelings go out to his family, who last saw their son off to the Olympics to compete, make new friends and participate in a wonderful event that brings us all together and instead they're now being bombarded with footage of their son dying on prime-time TV.
This footage needs to get pulled.. I hope the networks that are playing it get reprimanded.
Also, for the competitors sake, I hope those beams get covered up by padding or netting of some sort. Every Alpine Race or Ski Cross I've raced every single chairlift pole, and snow-making pipe is fully padded and covered by A-Netting or rows of B-netting. A lot goes into ensuring that even the improbable obstacles are made safe in the unlikely event of contact being made. I hope this gets taken care of...
Lee with Phil Liggett = games highlight so far.
Thanks for the ski jumping pics. That sport looks so hairball in pics or on TV, I can't imagine how nuts it must seem live.
Awesome pics with Phil...would of never picked up on that unless he was talking! Where was Lance?
Oh no! games not on CBC. Now I have to watch NBCs coverage.
FML
Anybody else just see The Big Lebowski singing We Are The World? WTF?
I'm going to go fucking ape shit if they show the video of Kumaritashvili's crash again before/during the opening ceremony [west coast.] Have some fucking respect NBC.
Although I have heard that the IOC and Vancouver decided to fly the Canadian and Olympic flags at half-staff, that's a nice gesture.
Anyone have a link to watch Olympic events live online? NBC isn't airing the men's downhill until after 7p.m. What is the point?
www.ctvolympics.ca has all the coverage you may need, they are the main broadcaster....
atdhe.net also has it. justin.tv is also good.
Fucking lame lip syncing the anthem (brutal rendition) and b. adams and furtado. Unnecessary and tacky. DO IT LIVE! [/O'Reilly]
Showing a guy die. Sick. I couldn't believe it. In slo-mo.
