Agreed...its certainly more the idiot behind the wheel and not the # of wheels driving the car/truck!

WINTER!!!!!!
And yeah - snow tires don't turn anybody into Captain Invincible.
Not today amigo, the ford escort should have been pushed off the cliff! Lots o' gapers, passed a saab with the driver in the grips of the fear. The road was rugged during the lake band squalls!!!
didn't even have to use my AK

Went up with Tom at the crack of 1pm with the thought of skiing Main Chute. Figured it would already be pummeled based on the 100 or so cars in the lot.
Tom on the shoulder. Must have been atleast 3.5feet through here. Lost the skin track soon after, making for some brutal early season trail breaking. Feeling soft and pudgy.

Didn't have beacons, but felt ok about the conditions. Tom goes first, tentatively making turns for fear of rocks. Didn't hit any, and soon relaxed.

Legit good skiing, no rocks, no visible tracks, stable snow.

Only instabilities we saw were in the top 6-8" of wind affected along the upper Baldy shoulder. Otherwise, nothing was moving really. Just nominal sluffing on the upper reaches of Main.
Best first day ever.
Holy crap you guys got pounded... Jealous but very psyched on the stoke.
Alta was amazing today...over the head blower all day baby
Nice work guys, I'll be up in the AM for sure.
In the meantime, just snapped this from my living room:
damn, that a way to get the season started. looked like there some lake bands setting up for part of the day which explains the dramatically high snow totals.
good god, you guys got shallacked.
Criiipes!!! Way to get after it utards. Love the lightswitch change to winter.
I'll be heading up to get some of the craziness first thing in the morning. If anybody needs a partner shoot me a PM.

EDIT: i forgot does anyone know anywhere around the cottonwood canyons that you can go snowmobile?? if so anyone wanna drag out the sleds and skis
Up at 5am, from PC-> alta with the lady friend by 7. Skins fucked by snow gun blowing water by 7:06. The trail was broken up as far as the top of wildcat. From there stomped it out rather slowly to Ballroom. Skied back to the car and met up with Powherb for a lap to the top of the SB tram. It was just as deep in the afternoon and the flats were still painful.
A little overnight consoladation of the snowpack won't be a bad thing IMO. Prolly back for another round of blower tomorrow.
it was like: summer, summer, summer, fall, fall, uh, back to summer, and *click* WINTER
^^ There was a pack of sleds up there yesterday. I bet they found some rocks.
Sledding: Go up Snake Creek from Midway. You could get way up to the back of Alta and Brighton and it would most likely be epic.
