While I get your point, there's a lot of nice state campgrounds in VT where dumbasses run generators. Our state parks don't have hookups. It would be nice to have some quiet. And I think NY has been removing electrical hookups too. None of what I am talking about is dispersed.

Correct. Most NYS sites have no hookup. There’s a rule that generators have to be turned off at 10- which is great cause then you can hear the drunks yelling at each other all night.

As a 6'2" person I feel like I'd have a tough time shot putting a bike into the back rack with that set up. I guess with that much space in a van you have room for a step stool?

Yeah we have lots of nice basic campgrounds here too. I was thinking of RV parks when I typed campgrounds. Those pretty much all have hookups and are completely undesirable to anyone but RVs.

Yeah the Basic seems like a misguided flex. The van had some “V12 BiTurbo AMG” decals and other stickers that seemed a little tongue in cheek.

Both seemed to embody exactly the look/mentality this thread is centered on.

RV parks do suck, but I’ve seen behind the curtain and I kinda get it. It’s a way for olds and rednecks to live close enough together that they can party all day without having to drive anywhere (cars that is, golf carts are fair game) or attend to their kids. It’s a full service resort for regular people.

We went to a huge one a couple years ago for a reunion type thing. I saw some college level drinking and carrying on from a population that averaged 55-60 years old. Not my style at all, and not something I’m planning to make a habit of, but I see why people like it.

We will use a full serviced RV park when travelling between forest rec sites camping. Some are better than others. It's like hitting a motel for a night - hook up and hit shower, full-time power w/o genny noise, usually wifi so the kidlet can download a book/video or two, laundry, drain the grey/black tanks & fill the fresh, etc. Would not base the trip on staying at those spots, but they are a nice quick re-connect with civilization on a 2wk+ trip.
One of the best we visited was Smithers municipal camp & RV park. Small and not crowded, full amenities except laundry, right on the river trail system. Would stay again.

Saw a taco at the TH this morning that had some foldable traction boards and a rooftop tent. Owner had one board folded up and drove onto it to level out the truck. They might suck I dunno but it looked pretty smart to me.

This. We call it "travel camping.". Like a motel but cheaper and you can BBQ and hang out outside.

The big RV owners never use the restrooms or showers, so they're often spotless.

You get a pass because you're actually using your ride. I think we mostly like to just rip on the sparkly clean vehicles that have never ventured farther tham a Trader Joe's parking lot. Haha.
