no offence, but i think that this is bullshit! i'm living out here at the moment, and during the recent storm the top was closed for all the days of snowfall, and then for 2 full days after it stopped. they might not secure the area, but they usually wait until it has settled rather than just letting people go up and kill themselves.

if it's still snowing hard on sunday, i wouldn't bother getting a guide until at least monday/tuesday.

but, insults aside... if anyone is out in la grave and fancies meeting up, give me a call. my number is +33679405378. it would be good to meet up and ski with any new maggots

I'll be staying in Les Deux for the week and will probably be going over to Alpe d'huez for a day as well. You're more than welcome to jump into the back of our espace for the day.

oh and edit: the green bars indicate precip. usualy you can translate the milimeters into 1.5x centimeters of snow. (varies between 1 and 2 depending on moisture)

adding up this makes ~125mm or about 150cm+ (there is some compacting because of the several days) new snow. forget those minibars of less than 2mm. they usually just vanish without a trace.

Dunno exactly what layering / wind deposition was like so I can't comment on that, but that sure was a lot longer closure than what is normal. Could have to do with french holidays, crowds and the resulting pressure and amount of people not able to make sound decisions themselves. Or something.

I should be staying/skiing with Glisseur when there so I'll be easy to spot as he's prolly the only one there on DP skis.

I am jealous. But it is snowing in the Wasatch right now. :)

snow forecast's prediction for les deux / la grave keeps on improving.

snow still forecast for thurs/Fri/Saturday. Saturday is looking better and better with a small weather window on Sunday. The freezing level keeps on dropping and so does the wind ....

If it pans out like this, la grave could be epic on Sat and possibly bluebird on Sunday morning ...

la grave has changed 100cm !
ok there won't be 500cm as it may indicate.(it caculates elevation so the heights are a bit over the top) but the changes are quite accurate !

or watch the new snow every 6 hours. (same link, just click "wetterprognosen "and then "schneehöhenänderung alle 6h") at least three times (in 6 hours!!!) 20-30cm of fresh.

knee deep at leysin today. snowed almost all day on top of that too. windy on top but not much wind below that. just gobs of fluffy goodness everywhere. :D

storm arrived last night around midnight but came in warm and wet with foehn winds. -1C at 2000m. 70-100kph winds expected today, tonight winds are expected to increase to 150kph. :eek:

I'm loading my Espace up for the journey to Grenoble tonight. i think i need to take less stuff. 5 of us are going down there but we're bringing 11 pairs of skis and 2 snowboards......

I'm glad i've got the biggest roof box i could find.

On another note, what are the driving conditions in and around grenoble at the moment ?

My (possibly dubious) assumption is that freezing levels are due to rise well above the valley floor so it should be OK until the final climb up to LDA.
