4FRNT Renegade ~ Hand built in SLC.

Hey guys I'm looking at replacing my old caylors with a more charging oriented ski and have gotten kinda strung up between the rens and blizzards bodacious. So I was hoping one of you guys could point me in the right direction between them (hopefully towards the ren though :wink:)
For background I would consider myself an expert skier that's about 6'1 and weighs 215 lbs. I'm looking for a ski that can really just charge through whatever I point the tips down, but still able to slarve and not be terrified to take them into the trees.

Haven't skied both. There are comparisons out there. Even in this thread (I think). But I say go renegade, because confirmation bias.

Yeah I've found some things on my own research but was wondering a difference with the new bodacious being softened up basically turning it into a spur on a diet. But honestly those 400$ Rens sitting on Backcountry are really hard to not just pick up. But since I don't start work again till school is out it might be just ride the caylors till they die this year and hope I can find cheap rens.

Renegade do not perform in viable packed snow as well as the the Blizzards. The Renegades are far better in any form of 3d snow except maybe really light and fluffy powder where the softer tip of the Bodacious and sidecut will help the ski.

Bushwacker doesn't think the renegades are any good on variable/packed snow.

For what it's worth, I disagree. They're fantastic in anything you can sink an edge into. The bodacious may well be better, I have no idea. I thought the renegades were more fun on edgeable hardpack than the Cochise, however.

FWIW, I bought the Renegade to be my pow ski and it turned into my daily driver for all conditions except ice. My 'crud' ski became my ice ski and very rarely gets out on the hill at all anymore. I know this doesn't help your blizzard debate, but hopefully sheds some light on the versatility of the Ren.

Awesome to hear my renegade Bros. I'm currently rocking a Cochise as my daily driver. Have a pair of Rens sitting in my garage waiting to get mounted up. Planning to go tech setup, but nowhere seems to have the AT boots that I want in my size. Should be happening in the next couple weeks. The Blizzards are about as much fun as I've ever had on a ski. The way they cut on hard pack is way sexy, and I feel like they're floaty fun times up to about 8 - 10 in. I'm banking on the Rens being slightly more versatile and a little more capable in deeper snow. Ready for this Nino to take hold in CO.

ummm variable 3d snow for sure the Renegades rocks. In variable packed snow no way Jose maybe being on the east my idea of variable packed snow is different.

I would love to see the angles you are getting on the cochise compared the rengades on packed snow.

Edge to edge skiing the old Cochise would pretty much carve and let you get high edge angles, when I do that on the Renegade it feels like it wants to go the oppostie way of the way I am edging. This is me on a pair of 193 Cochises there is no way either length Renegade would let me tip the skis this far over.

Your edge angles are rad, brah.

I can't tip and ride on the renegades like I can with a Cochise or Q Lab (my current Renegade complement), but I can certainly tip, I just have to do a little more steering. When transitioning from a ski with more sidecut I can relate to what you're talking about (they don't go where I mean them to), I just have to adjust.... I have no idea if my edge angles are as rad as yours. Probably not. I can say that, at speed, in the snow conditions in your picture, I can have a ton of fun laying them all over the place.

welll the Q labs are even better than the old Cochise for skiing like that IMO.

I think in really dense snow, but snow you can still sink into the Renegade are amazing. they ski like SL ski when you want or SG skis and just mach over anything.

today should have been my first day on my new-to-me 196s but the USPS decided to royally f*&# them up when they were in transit. The box showed up in 2 halves, the tails on both skis got severely damaged to the point that the base is turned up and pulling away from the core and I just noticed that the screws on one of the rear bindings are pulled out and away from the ski. I was hoping I would just be able to tighten them but the screws just spin. No wonder you are going out of business USPS.

I've been hearing whispers about a "new and improved" renegade for next year? Do we need to start hoarding? Will they match with my pants? Who's sitting on some intel?

Not in love with the new graphics... they don't have the same soul as the crows or owls.
Might be nice to get lighter on the renegades for walking but I'd hate to lose the crud busting magic.

I will buy those Raven 190s though. Hopefully I can find a pair this spring.

What the hell are those graphics? Super lame. I was starting to think my OG crows that I have 100ish days on were needing replacement.... Guess I'll be looking for a used or older pair instead.

The Renegades are showing 190 / 184 lengths and 196 / 186 lengths, depending on where you look. Anyone know which? A 190 Renegade at 2200g would be pretty sweet.

Catalog shots pretty clearly shows it at 186/196. The 190/184 is the Raven

4FRNT might be doing themselves a favor at Sports Authority and REI with those graphics?

...I can't tell if they're more K2 or Rossi...but they're going to sell a F-LOAD of them at big boxes around the country!

Ugh, agree with you. Worse than the 2015/2016 which I wasn't a big fan of either. Gonna be looking for any new unmounted 186's I can find this spring. My crows are somewhere around 150 days, still skiing well but was gonna retire them since I need new Guardians anyway.

Losing a bit of weight sounds good but like Judo says, I like how the OG version handles. I ski them with Guardians so it's gonna be heavy and suck for touring but that's fine for slackcountry stuff.

Generally agree re: changing how they ski....wondering if cf might change the dynamic in other ways, though. A poppier ren could be fun. Also too, I suspect we give weight more credit for crud busting prowess than it really deserves.

Anyone have experience on the Renegades vs. KYE 120? I'm still set on finding Renegades this spring but curious how the two compare.

Usually 4FRNT runs on a five year product cycle. Hence dropping the EHP even when it was still a solid, popular ski. So being the sixth year of the Ren, I can definitely see them tweaking it. It makes especially more sense when you see Hoj moving towards a lot more man-powered skiing over the last few years.

Intrigued by the new lighter rens, will be interesting to hear how they compare to previous iterations. Might pick up a pair of this years "just in case" if they show up for cheap on the interwebs somewhere, my Owls are getting beat up after probably 250-300 ish days.

And yes, the graphics are ugly. They don't even match my pants or anything, jeez.
