First story, no. Random park rat actually. No poles, wearing sunglasses on a storm day, but was styling out side hits on his way to the park after we got off the lift. I had never heard the Intel-owns-Ikon, or the RFID gate angles before.

How am i going to match wits with someone like that. I am not versed in his alternative facts and could be hit with a series of mind bending factoids that a simpleton like me is not privvy to, but he and his band of internet slueths has had access to since the beginning. It would be like me arguing physics with Wily Coyote... we are simply operating in two different realities and i dont want him dropping an anvil on my head in an effort to show me his facts are the correct ones.

i find that only gapers goad a friend into situations way above their head where they are likely to be injured. If you've been around the block, you have had to deal with an on-mountain injury and know that its a day/trip ruiner for everyone involved at best, and much worse, at worst. There are better/easier ways to humble a braggart than send them down gnar they are totally unprepared for.

Yeah. I wack them with a pole out of habit like Im about to drop a cornice or something. Better to do that simple step than prerelease half way down the run. Sticky snow happens, especially on hiking soles, but yeah, no reason the kick you toe piece. That i agree with. I already have a habit of breaking those.

This is the right take. Nothing makes me eye roll harder than watching a reasonably athletic but largely inexperienced group of dudes (always dudes. Often on a snowboard) butt-slide into something semi-serious and then yell back to their neophyte friend, "see bro? Just, like point it downhill to get off the lip and then lean into the hill."

In my experience it's dads with their kids. I've been guilty once or twice. But don't worry, they've gotten back at me 10 times over.

Waiting in what I thought was a short line to get my lift ticket and having everything ready to hand the guy behind the window when I start to notice almost every geezer ahead of me is saying "I need to reload my pass",,,,,,JFC are you really inept that you can't use that smart phone you were just taking pictures of your buddies and yourself that you can't reload your pass with it and not stand in line, there's fresh powder on the hill that needs to be skied but here you are fucking around, growing the line behind you and now I'm wondering what's going to happen when you try to go through the RFID gate

You want boomers to be able to open up specific apps and figure out how to reload RFID cards? Ain't gonna happen.

What we need are specific lineups for old people.

Hey assholes, I and every other boomer I know is capable of managing phone apps (ok, everyone but my wife). Your amazing phone skill doesn't make you as smart as you think you are. But more importantly, I'm not one of the gapers gaping at my phone on the lift line and on the chair and in the middle of the run, because I don't ski with my phone. Skiing is a break from the rest of the world. The last thing I need skiing is my phone going off with campaign calls and texts. So yeah, if I was on the hill and had to reload a ski pass I guess I would have to do it in line. Also, I'm not one of those gen whatevers who things every run they do is camera worthy, and I'm certainly not skiing around videoing myself with a selfie stick.

A group (gaggle) of GenZ or late millenials came down the chute.
asked “how many in your group?”
“Five”
“OK, how do y’all want to split up?”
“Huh?”
“Ya gonna try to put five people on a quad chair?”
“Oh…yeah…Uhhh”
So I and two other singles pulled out to fill in with them

Except they couldn’t figure out the seating arrangements by load time so the three of us gray hairs snaked thru by ourselves.
I glanced back after leaving the terminal. They loaded four and one on the next two chairs

But I’m sure they were wizards on a mobile phone

I was kinda annoyed when I went to the ticket office to renew my uphill pass (like I always have) and the girls who were just sitting there doing nothing, told me kinda snottily that I needed to purchase it online from my phone. Like, they couldn't just interact with a customer and push a few buttons to make this happen?

I am gen x, well-versed in bridging the gap between the boomer generation and the one after me who always has to have a screen in view. I just speak from experience with my own old man and his pals. And I really only take photos for this goddamn place - no insta, facebook, or whatever else the kids use these days. I do ski with my phone and helmet bluetooth chips though because when my boomer friends call me to ask me how to reload their passes I like to help.

But why wouldn't you just reload your ticket online at home the day before?

i fully intend to reload my Clipper card for BART on line when we take the train and BART to SFO in June. Hoping to avoid the fiasco we had last year when the train pulls into the BART station with minutes to spare and we find out money and credit cards don't work in BART stations anymore.

And after trying to post a couple of witty replies I have to tell you that while I may not be a tech genius, I'm better at it than the techs who run this forum.
