As long as it stays mostly airborne and not surface transmitted, wearing a good mask should continue to be mostly effective protection and evolving vaccines should reduce severity of infection where GOOD masks and vaccines are available. Places like here in Murika it will be the deniers and freeDUMBers who will keep dropping like flies because they aren't protecting themselves. Bummer for the healthcare workers who have to clean up the carnage. I do suspect that health insurance providers and employer mandates will "encourage" the reluctant to step up when not taking a jab hits them in their wallets HARD.. I don’t really think you understand what science is. It’s not about your emotional response to “information” that you are spoon fed on the internet and then posting your opinion about your interpretation.

In the last post I quoted you were agreeing that mitigation measures against Covid would bring the pandemic under control but just hours before you were posting that no matter what we do, it wouldn’t matter and we were headed for some type of zombie apocalypse.

As far as masks go, I don’t need a study to show they work. I could explain to a first grader that a mask is a physical barrier that stops some of the exhaled droplets and aerosolized particles from your mouth and nose. I could explain that they’re not 100% effective but masks do reduce your risk of spreading and possibly contracting respiratory disease. I guess you can’t comprehend this.

The more mitigation efforts we put into stopping the pandemic is the only way we stop it. Vaccines, and masks until more people are vaccinated are our best shot. I don’t think there is really any debate about this from a scientific standpoint, it’s only from an emotional and political POV. You can bloviate all you want but it won’t change the facts.

Unicorn touches something I take issue with—> the blame ultimately falls on those who refuse to get vaccinated but WTF was the CDC etc thinking when they stop encouraging masks at a time when Delta was raging overseas?

That doesn't negate the fact that something gnarlier may still be coming down the pike and it IS inevitable that it will spread around the world, see: Delta. I was using 28 Weeks Later as an analogy to say that as long as ONE person out there on the planet has it, the virus has the potential to spread all over again. Especially if it's a new mutation. IIRC they said if you are vaccinated you don't have to wear a mask anymore. Of course we all knew how this would end up, being emotional creatures who understand the nuances of public behaviour. Problem is those CDC jobbers can only speak in science and make recommendations as such - I think.

What exactly ARE your points, though? Maybe just clear it up instead of talking in circles.

Are vaccines effective?
Are vaccines safe?
Should everyone who is able to do so get vaccinated?
Is COVID serious?
Should people who are generally young and healthy take measures to protect themselves from COVID?
Are masks an effective piece in the transmission mitigation puzzle?

It's okay to change your mind as you learn new data. I've been wrong about a lot of shit in the past 18 months. It's all good man.

Here's the issue you're having:

in one statement you're saying that vaccines and safety protocols (SD'ing, masks, etc.) work.

in the next statement you're saying if there is just one person roaming around with COVID-19 in the world that we'll never get over the pandemic.

I hope you can see how those two statements are at odds with one another.

Got Covid shot as soon as I could. Now the question would be, if this becomes a yearly booster type scenario, will i continue? Jury is out for sure...
