Couple of quick critiques:
-Straighten the picture in post using the monument as your vertical guide. As is everything is leaning left.
-Having the foreground elements in a grouping (the headstones) out of focus is distracting and is a technique that should only be used if you're drawing attention to a specific item, in this case a name.

Went for a walk with this man, Bill, on easter. He was headed to Billings, about 120 miles away on the 90, hoping to get picked up. It was getting close to nightfall when I took this photo, nobody had stopped for him yet. Bill is an outdoorsman, and told me about what I need to take down a bear if I ever find myself up north. "Aim for the shoulder, not the head. A lot of people make that mistake. If its from about me to that sign, no doubt about it; youre dead."
So there I was, taking photos of pilings when some fucking eagle comes and ruins my shot:

How could this have come out better?
/\ /\
Tripod or some sort of support so you can get the non-moving stuff sharper?
Maybe get closer to the track so the train's coming at you more?
Either show more of the dude and in focus, or get him out of the frame.
Still, nice pic.
I love shooting this pup. Loads of character!

btw, how do I hide the thumbnail below?
Seconded on the tripod. Makes a big difference. Along those lines; shooting at a shutter speed that is greater than the focal length of your lens makes non-moving things acceptably sharp. But then the train probably wouldn't have been so blurred. Also, either crop the dude out or include more of him. I always try to do a custom white balance. A small 18% grey card is easy to carry and gives you accurate color. Or use the palm of your hand, assuming you are Caucasian.
But otherwise, I like the shot.
I haven't had hardly anytime to shoot recently and as a result, It's been a while since I've posted anything. From a few weeks ago....

Wow. The web compression on that one looks like shit....
I'm a complete and udder jong here.. but the part that seems sharp is the fireproofing on the steel beams. A tile or something else maybe, I don't know, I still like the shot though. I'm a transportation engineer and always enjoy train shots for some reason. Great shot though... No idea why, but I should figure that out soon :)
addit:
Lonnie, sweet shot!
I kinda like train shots too....Here's a couple when I was bored waiting for the BART:

Would've liked to try this again but had to catch this train. Longer exposure would've helped.
