Went for a walk with this man, Bill, on easter. He was headed to Billings, about 120 miles away on the 90, hoping to get picked up. It was getting close to nightfall when I took this photo, nobody had stopped for him yet. Bill is an outdoorsman, and told me about what I need to take down a bear if I ever find myself up north. "Aim for the shoulder, not the head. A lot of people make that mistake. If its from about me to that sign, no doubt about it; youre dead."

Maybe get closer to the track so the train's coming at you more?

Seconded on the tripod. Makes a big difference. Along those lines; shooting at a shutter speed that is greater than the focal length of your lens makes non-moving things acceptably sharp. But then the train probably wouldn't have been so blurred. Also, either crop the dude out or include more of him. I always try to do a custom white balance. A small 18% grey card is easy to carry and gives you accurate color. Or use the palm of your hand, assuming you are Caucasian.Quote:

Wow. The web compression on that one looks like shit....
I'm a complete and udder jong here.. but the part that seems sharp is the fireproofing on the steel beams. A tile or something else maybe, I don't know, I still like the shot though. I'm a transportation engineer and always enjoy train shots for some reason. Great shot though... No idea why, but I should figure that out soon :)Quote:
