I have this and love it...not cheap but I find it worth it.

See the fiskars maul I posted above. I have only split a cord with it so far but it is the best maul I have ever used. It cost around $50.
Have extra wood? If you could come up on a couple extra cords to sell to pay for it I'd get this. It's not a maul but it's awesome. https://www.drpower.com/power-equipm...litter-new.axd
Edit- at $50 a maul you'd only need to sell $350 of wood...
Thanks for the suggestions. I am a part owner of a 25 ton gas splitter. The maul is just for a fun work out and to get my yahyahs out after a long day.
Ahh I see. Nice. Our newest maul is prolly 25-30 years old.
What did I miss? Has anything changed enough to justify $50?
Even though I have the overly expensive version I posted above I agree with this. I have an old one from my grandpa that I’m in the process of building a new ash handle from a tree in our yard and sharpening the existing 40 year old maul. Once I get around to it I’ll post a pic here.

Technically the Fiskars splitter is classified as a "splitting Axe".
Justifying the $50:
The handle is nearly indestructible
Only 5 lbs (lighter than a typical maul)
The design of the head makes splitting very efficient which means fewer swings and less wear on your body.

Once you get yer wood back to a 115V power source (your wood shed?) an electric splitter is quieter , zero maintenance, doesn't use fuel, takes up way less space to transport or store
I ran one ^^ for a few years, 2 days straight on a 6 person crew , it took the big knotted piece's no problem
you wana have it screwed to a bench that puts it at waist level ... all you need IME and only 379CAN$ .
^^^ Id like one so I could split in a heated garage when it's cold as balls and pouring rain
heated garage would be nice!
I was running it ^^ in a wood shed which you can't do with a gas motorized splitter, it ran it off a generator which worked fine so you could do that too for remote usage, this was a remote lodge where everything comes in by chopper so it was just way easier for so many reasons
i also had a motorized splitter for a season and IME the 6 ton electric had just as many balls power wise, I also borrowed a 2 ton model and it was still did ok for power
not quite as romantic/cathartic/zen as splitting wood by hand
I’ve been splitting a little wood the last few days.

Busy weekend. Kinda tired

I cut another generous face cord of oak an maple this weekend. Only a couple more to go to bring home and two more for the cottage.
Chain saw question:
Can old gas cause a chainsaw to run for a while, then cut out and refuse to start until cooler?
I did not store the saw with gas in it; I ran it out of gas last spring before I stored it (duh), but the gas I put in was at least 2 years old, premixed.
With last weeks storm damage, I had to use up some old gas, but the saw was cutting out after it got warmed up.
Can this be a function of the old gas or do I need to get a tune up? It was running fine last spring.
2yr old mix? Does the saw just die, or does it start to bog first? If it is bogging down or otherwise unable to get into the powerband, then your gas/oil mix probably has become too rich with the petrol evaporating out of the mix. Empty the tank and run with fresh mix - betcha she runs just fine.
+1
Unless you’ve put stabilizer in it, by the time gas is a year old it’s funky. That’s where I’d start with your issues. If you’re gonna mix your own, try to find ethanol-free. I’ve had good luck with that.
Maybe get a new spark plug while you’re at the store too.
I thought this was interesting and beautiful. Things get a little nuts at 8:00 and 9:12 with some of the craziest yarding I’ve ever seen. I came across this on adventure-journal.com:
