I really enjoy seeing all the awesome photos of far off places.
Riding from home, I see the same things everyday.
More Orogenesis scouting in NorCal. Checking out a new route option around the West side of the Mokelumni wilderness from Bear Valley to Tahoe.
The Mokelumni coast to crest trail is out there but sees almost no use outside the immediate area of Bear Valley. I set up a shuttle to ride it from town to Salt Spring reservoir. First part was great, then I got to one section that disappeared I to deadfall. Next section was ATV trail which was clear, but another section disappeared completely so I bailed onto forest roads as it was getting to late after noon. I either had to turn back or take a chance that the final few sections would be passable. Fortunately they were just a dozen downed trees so I almost made it without lights.

It'll be getting pretty cold by November since the area is mostly between 6-8,000ft and heat waves seem to be ending. I wouldn't recommend riding this particular route because there were a lot of trees down (I went back and rode some of the sections I'd skipped). But the trails right around Bear Valley that see frequent use are in good shape and pretty fun. The Mokelumne Wilderness is basically between Hwy 4 and Hwy 88. You can cross over any of the main highways 88, 4, 108, 120. South of Yosemite there are no crossings until Kernville area in the Southern Sierras. I can send you some ride suggestions depending where you end up.

One of my favorite sections of Camp Hamilton Trail in Los Alamos. Very high consequence switchbacks. My attempt right before this one nearly took me over the edge.

A bit over a week ago I managed to get back up to Downieville again, after missing out last year due to schedule conflicts. This time it was just me and a retiree buddy, and we both brought our SL ebikes to let us check out some stuff that we hadn't tried before.
Day 1 - went out on Gold Valley Rim Trail, down Baby Heads, then up the OHV road to descend Big Boulder into 3rd Divide. Coming from literally sea level, even the gentle climb of GVRT at ~8,000' is always a shock to my system.

Day 2 - started out climbing up to Mt Elwell, then descending to Graegle. Neither of us had done this before. The route I mapped out to get us to the peak was definitely type 2 fun, with a lot of pushing up, even on ebikes. But man, the descent was awesome, and one of my top 5 rides. After lunch in town, we went over and did Mills Peak, which came highly recommended, but wasn't as impressive after riding Elwell. The lower angle makes it harder to carry speed through the never-ending loose rocks.

Day 3 - We caught the first shuttle up to the saddle, and instead of immediately following the herd down, we took advantage of the motors and scooted up to the tower to enjoy the panoramic views. Then bombed down the classic route.
