He does not like strangers and has nipped two strange people trying to pet him, so I can't get any random person to watch him. He nips everyone but me, even the wife. And he needs to be watched closely for a few days in case he goes downhill. I think he will be fine but I don't want to be wrong and be far far away.Quote:

Daisy had to learn some geometry then dry off in the sun after a big walk.
She's not really swimming, but I think the water is just too cold for her right now.
She's not really fetching either, yet she's clearly lab and border collie and probably some other working dog in there. Does that instinct just need a little time to kick in? Wally didn't start fetching right away when I got him as a big puppy, but I just figured it was because nobody played fetch with him.
Daisy is definitely not fully baked yet at 4 months, but she's adorable and sweet and snuggly and does some commands alright. She's good off leash and follows me around like a puppy, as the saying goes.Attachment 494258Attachment 494259
Anyone have good luck treating dog allergies? I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to environmental allergies, not food.
Boy gets itchy and scratches a lot. The main issue is he licks/gnaws his paws raw if he’s left alone. His skin is actually pretty good/now red or inflamed if he just leaves it alone.
Been trying Zyrtec, helps a bit maybe, but not enough. Apoquel or Cytopoint injections are options, but they kind of just cover up symptoms which I’m not a huge fan of. Curious if anyone has had experience treating allergies

One of our pits has wicked allergies. Both environmental and food. We tried everything. Benedryl we found better then Zyrtec because it would make her sleepy and less apt to chewing and licking. As she aged the Benedryl and Zyrtec stopped working as well, so we went to Cytopoint shots which seemed to work at first and then her body started to build an immunity and the duration the shot would last diminished to the point it was not worth the price. We then started her on apoquel and it worked amazing. My other half started to read into it too much and started to worry about liver issues so she then decided to start her on a therapy that was a formula mixed for her allergies and was given to her twice daily as drops in her mouth. Vet said we would notice no allergies in 6 months. We’ll $700 for 6 months and there was no change so we did another 6 months and bagged it because it was a waste. She’s back on only apoquel and it works amazing. She can eat anything and has no issues with environmental stuff either. I’d recommend apoquel for sure.Quote:

Ok, not sure there's much, if any, lab in Daisy. Heeler, border collie maybe. Some kind of funny little cattle dog. She's so snuggly! Fetches a little. IDK if she'll be big enough to bike with me this summer. We'll see. Hopefully she starts swimming soon.

Hopefully she does swim! Dogs are strange. Out of the three between the other half and I, 1 swims and the one that swims and the other female fetch like crazy. The two that don’t swim are also the two that get the hottest. The swimmer is constantly wanting to be under a blanket.Quote:

Pibbles are too dense to swim! I've seen them do fetch tho.
A friend's half bully used to swim out a bit and then panic. Sometimes he'd figure it out, but other times you'd have to go get him.

Trigger is funny. On dry land he basically won't fetch. Sure, he'll run after a ball, and with a lot of encouragement (and after *tons* of attempted training) he might kinda sorta bring it back a couple times, but he really doesn't get the game. He also never swims just to swim. But, throw a stick into water and he'll swim to get it, bring it back, drop it right at your feet, and if you don't throw it back out immediately he'll lose his shit until you do. Repeat until he's too tired to stand.
