This is just my opinion; but the southern tier is all counties touching the straight part of the NY-PA border. It includes Broome Co but nothing past that because then you're heading into the catskill region and the geography changes.Quote:

Yea, growing up in Corning I always thought of Binghamton as a crossroads kinda like Syracuse. From Binghamton, north takes you to 'cuse, northeast is Albany, east is the city, south is Scranton or goodbye NY; and west could be anything: Rochester, Buffalo, Canada, Cleveland, etc.Quote:

okay so what do we think about this map?? I had way too much time on my hands at work today and tried to summarize some of the major recent discussion points from this thread.. I think we're getting close but there's still a lot open for debate. I'm open to any and all criticism/suggestions/feedback/judgement, etc.

I thought Rochester seemed pretty hip but admittedly we had started drinking as soon as we hit 15 north of Williamsport. We know plenty of kids that did cool things in bigger cities before moving back and doing those same cool things in Rochester. But it's not so gentrified that the crusty, rust belt bars have been forced to leave the neighborhood. That's not a bad compromise.

I assume the heavy vertical line is the Central NY vs Western NY dividing line? But why does it go all the way across Lake Ontario and up into Canada so far? You are also saying that there is a southern section that is further south of the Southern Tier with the heavy horizontal line?
