No control last week.
Updating the current plan:
UDOT will be conducting avalanche artillery work tomorrow May 20th. Please stay clear of all North side avalanche paths above the highway between 0600 and 0800.
Results from today's mid-canyon shoot: White Pine and little Pine to 3/4 track, White pine chute 1 to the apron. White pine 2,3,4 naturals to apron.
Skier triggered slide in the Emmas at ~1500; reported broken arm, self rescue to road.

Looks like 6AM for the closure with an estimated opening at 8AM.

Conditions were good up high, legit face shots. But, somewhere on my second lap with the wind and snow and low vis I just thought, I'm over this damnit, I want corn and sun and beers at the car and long days of fast travel where you can see where you are going.

Saw that same coyote on the bypass road last night. Didn't seem the least bit concerned or stealthy even after I stopped to snap a pic, which was kinda weird. Does spring exist in the Wasatch? Lake Bonneville is gonna re-fill if/when it flips the switch from winter to 90 degrees sooner or later. Conditions at Alta about 8pm were barely turnable mank. Bailed for the groomer which was more fun.

It's heavy and it's wet. But it's still snow. Don't get out in the open on stuff that's too steep. It's slow moving but could pack a punch.

I've been trying to keep track, but its hard with the new snow not reporting. The only gauge is the total base depth, but with the warm temperatures the base will sometimes settle equally with the new accumulation. That being said I was saying the same as Lionel; 765''. More interesting for me is over 72'' of water since October 1st. 3.5'' more at the base of the tram since monday night. Snowbird destroyed their old water record at the base of the tram this season with 60'' from November 1st through April 30th. The old record was just under 55'' plus at least 4'' more in May.

Snowbird's reporting 754" on their website... matches pretty well with everyone's numbers.
Skied Silver Fork today, pretty heavy, but nice surfy snow. Stuck to the trees and didn't see any signs of instability, but i'm sure on steeper stuff you could set off something large and slow moving...
mmmmmmm, let the cook down begin. maybe mid canyon south^^^^^^^^before total burnout, on it. then, wonder what that mlk layers gonna provide down the road? maybe some extra support for a bit? maybe a bit more staying power for what lurks below? gonna be interesting maybe. summer skiable stuff what normally not is. hope it don't go all las vegas hot all of a sudden..........Quote:

i do hear ya there on that. was just gonna try to hook up and visit/tour with a friend for 5 or 6 days. would def be a last minute decision or less than a week out booked flight.Quote:

I've never caught anything from the Wasatch that required a doctors visit.

i can also think of a half dozen other places in the west that are known for excellent spring skiing and that you can only ski in the late spring or early summer. the wasatch, unfortunately, is not either of these.Quote:

Good skiing on north aspects at 11,000ft at 10:15am. 3" of dense, softening snow over supportable, firm base. Plenty of non-threatening rollerball action. Tomorrow on north aspects might be the Wasatch version of corn. Get it while it's good. South aspects (right off the road) did not refreeze it would seem.
