I see your point. But there is my chicken-shit method which is to ride on the side, time my speed, or stop, and wait for the lane to be clear, and then cross that exit ramp. I don't do that on my local loop, but then there are a million cyclists on my local loop, it's marked for cyclists, and the speed limit is 30 or 35 MPH, and I'm doing 20-25 MPH near those spots.Quote:

My sons' fraternity does a cross country ride as a charity fund raiser every year. One of the routes uses I70 in the Rockies. Years ago a kid was killed by a truck exiting the freeway as he road straight through on the right. Since then the policy has been that the riders exit the freeway at every ramp and then take the on-ramp. Makes sense.Quote:

Totally disagree with you on that. No reason whatsoever for the other car to not move over so you can at least ride the dbl yellow or cross it a bit. Many road cyclists suck at riding (clearly from the rail vid) and make spontaneous moves without thinking to avoid gravel, undulations, or just can't ride in a straight line. Giving the most amount of room possible is the safest bet. I'd rather take out the other cars sideview mirror instead of cyclist any day. Granted Donner is turny, so there are blind spots, but in general the other car should move over to help as well.Quote:

This (crossing the line) came up just the other day for me. I slowed down to the riders speed waiting for what I felt was a comfortable sight distance to make a move and after about a mile the car behind me decided to make his move and pass both of us. He promptly went off the road while accelerating, never even took his foot off the gas, as a pickup came flying up in the other direction at easily 25 over the posted limit. He dropped about 20 feet into a creek, flipped twice and made an awful mess of his day. I waited to see if he was able to get out on his own and when he did I went to make sure the pickup driver was alright because he came to a complete stop in the middle of the road totally shaken. I called the PD and waited for them and he took my info and statement about what I saw and told me to go. Through all of this the rider just blithely pedaled away like nothing ever happened after watching the car fly off the road into the creek. Granted he didn't do anything wrong so I guess he had no reason to wait but then again neither did I, I just felt that the moron in the creek needed the blade twisted just a bit more for the unnecessarily aggressive move.
