ON3P SKIS Discussion

Hi there!

Listened to Blisters Podcast today and got really impressed with the attention to detail that Scott puts into the making of his skis, really caught my attention!

Found a sweet deal for a Steeple 112 in 189, anyone that has skied them that can give me some input? I have a pair of beasts that I would put on them, having them as a one-quiver ski. The Billy Goat seems to be loved by almost everyone here at TGR, and what i've found out, the Steeple 112 can almost be seen as a "skinnier tour BG". Am I totally wrong in that?

Luckily my 116's have the 98 topsheet, so it's not as hugely different than the 108. Who am I fooling.

Wow... I am really impressed.

I got these for my side country ski, we have a lot of access right off the resort especially if your willing to walk a bit. I have them mounted with tech bindings so they won't be seeing a ton of inbounds (I just need the elasticity of an alpine clamp). That being said since most of my BC skiing is accessed off the lifts I needed something that would perform in shit conditions on the hill, I am not content pussy footing until I can get out of the ropes.

Just looking at the numbers and knowing ON3P I figured they would do just fine in bounds and I was certainly proven correct. These things rip, I am sure they have a speed limit but so do my dynafiddles. I was sick of all the light skis I've tried getting pushed around and deflected, these do not suffer from this problem. The dual sidecut seems to be dialed. Short and long turns can be made on command.

My biggest concern was I would regret going this narrow in the Pow. Since this is a walking ski I needed to make a sacrifice to save some weight without making them ski like garbage. We generally have a PNW style snow pack though not quit as warm as what Washington averages. This season has been pretty damn cold though but our past weekend storm was finished pretty dense. Stability is pretty shitty in back country right now so we headed out to some mellower slopes to try these guys out. That tip rocker works! My first two turns in I was actually leaning to far back, you can ski the front of the ski aggressively with no diving. I am pretty light so that probably helps but I would say these ski bigger in the powder than the numbers read.

I will probably look for something around 115-120 waist to complement these next season but for now I am pretty stoked.

I love my 102s from last year too. Since I got them I've probably spent 90% of my days on them. From boilerplate to the deep. Some Billy Goats or similar next year sound mighty good...

Don't know about boilerplate, but in any soft snow the 102s are tons of fun. Had them in Cascade cement last week and really got a feel for how surfy they can be when the tail sinks and the tips ride up. Not explaining it well but it's a great sensation

Rode my Wren 112s today over hard crusts with 2 inches of dust. Fantastic set of skis. Turned quickly, held edges through that crap really well, and can nearly fly. That's all.

Yeah I guess they don't handle true boiler plate great but they crush it if there is any sort of softness. Such a fantastic ski.

Can confirm, don't ski east coast hard snow well.

But anything soft, it's great.

Hey ON3P bosses, any chance of being at testfest at Boyne Michigan next week with all the other retailers? Us midwest shops love you guys too!

We actually will be there (though only Wed/Thur). That fleet is coming up from our rep in OH. It is going to be 16/17 skis (as our large 17/18 fleet will be at Bachelor the same days) but most of the skis out there are more or less the same next year so hopefully it is a good time.

Our dealer program is changing up quite a bit this year, so we're not looking for many new dealers, but the midwest is an area (along with Utah & Tahoe) that we need to find 2-3 more solid retail partners going forward. Hopefully it goes well! It is our first time out to Boyne.

Hell to the fucking ya!! I cant wait to try some new planks out! Any chance of having the bigger skis there? I know its a small hill but id love to try some wrens! And were a certain shop in columbus and were already pushing your gear hard! Just one set of jessies left! Pushing for a heavier order next season! Ever a chance of unloading a demo set there...or even some sweet schwag...hint hint

Can someone compare the kartel 98 vs 108 in terms of flex, camber/rocker, turn shape, poppy/playfulness vs stability, firm variable and grabby (but not too deep) soft snow?

Anyone been on a 184 devastator and any of the new kartels to compare/contrast?

FWIW I was waffling between the 98 and 108. Scott kept steering me back to the 108. Hell I even downsized to 181 ala PowTron..

No regrets whatsoever. Skied them all weekend. Up to boot deep PNW heavy dust on crust. I fell in love immediately. Held up well as the day wore on, and the next day when everything was sun baked chunder. Pops off all the little lips I find, but retains that ON3P backbone, and dampness.cTotally happy with my decision. I got this because I was always reaching for the K116 when the conditions didn't quite call for it, but I loved it's versatility.

Phiber, mind sharing your height/weight? I'm trying to decide between the Kartel 108 in 176cm and 181cm. Leaning towards the 181, but looking for some other's input before pulling the trigger. Me....5'8" 155lbs. Thanks.

Anyone know the recommended mount point for some old 181 caylors?

PowTron and Iggy. I didn't notice, but you guys rock. Seriously? Serial number 001 on my 98 Wren's. Right on. When you guys know what dates you are going to be at Bogus let me know and I'll show you around.
Those 98 Wrens ski great. I can't wait to get them on some untracked fresh, but their performance on fast icy groomers rocks. Definitely not a carving ski, but much less scary than my 110 underfoot Sickles on hardpack. The 98's are fun and turny and remind me a lot of my Viciks. On the soft corn they performed great, nice to change up a set of turns with a few short hops here and there and then open them up if you want. If you let them find their speed limit, which there is one, they are remarkably stable, like all of ON3P's lineup. Their tips blast through the piles of corn, again, just like my Viciks. Every once and a while I'd get in the backseat, these skis like to be driven and you'll get slapped if you get too far back on these.
