Do you guys think XC is growing?
My exposure is limited to Snowmass Village. But the trails seem to me, to be the least busy, they've ever been.
I attribute it to the explosive growth of uphilling on the resort.
Lots of people that would have been XCing, are now skinning.
Covid gave it a boost here in E. WA.

Hoping to get out tommorow afternoon. No new snow and not expecting any, and the temps will be just a degree or two below freezing on a very sunny day.
Last time I went in similar conditions snow was sticking to my waxless classic skis. Real bad.
Still putting my wax arsenal together so don't have a ton of options. If it is sticking, how terrible an idea would it be to apply a temperature-specific liquid wax on the fish scale area? Seeing tons of mixed views online.
Use the coldest (hardest) wax you have. I apply wax on the kicker only in one direction so it doesn't clog up the scales. You could also try paraffin from a candle in a pinchQuote:

It’s feels so good when it’s happening, I imagine it’s like hitting the perfect 275 yard drive that lands in the middle of the fairway. Something I was never able to accomplish.
Skiing is a learning sport, I like that.

My skate skis are showing dry bases after [emoji637][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]k after a fresh wax. ( [emoji637][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]-[emoji638][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]] degree snow) Any tips for keeping them from drying so quickly? I’m regularly doing the normal waxing technique with hot wax, scrape, brushes, etc. I let the ironed in wax cool overnight before brushing.

When new, did you iron in a handful of warm base prep (low iron temp and then temper with a few hotter iron cold wax? It is possible to nuke with to much heat resulting and they said absorbers less. IME the more I wax a Skate ski the longer it lasts between waxing before I get the whitish bases and it usually goes whitish underfoot first SO I would say keep waxing and it will get better
SO what i would do with a new skate ski is LOTS of waxing with a warm wax and i wouldn't bother to scrape it, have the ski set up on the form, get out of bed & wax in the morning before breakfast, then before I went to work, then when I get home or whenver I get a moment hit it with the iron so I might melt that wax into the bases 6 times in one day
And then two colder applications to temper the base. (New ski)

Since we are on the subject of waxing….
Something I’ve wondered lately is how people judge what temp wax to use. My strategy is to subtract 5-15 F off the predicted ambient temperature for the day and amount of sunlight. If it’s going to be cloudy and it hasn’t snowed in awhile I do the standard 10 subtraction to decide the wax temp. If it’s going to be sunny, I typically try to get my wax temp and ambient temps to be closer aligned. This is just something I came up with no research and my skis seem to slide well using this method, but I am curious to hear others strategies for waxing skate skis (and dh skis for that matter)

If you’re going to miss the ideal wax, miss on the cold side… i.e. wax colder if in doubt.

For sure my favorite skis now, F3 Skate. Heel back, 1/4 length groove, ski is a loose and playful. Excells in softer, drier snow. But it’s becoming my daily driver. So easy to get up and over this ski. We’ve been getting nickels and dimes, snow is starting to stack up.

New to skate skiing and appreciating the wax discussion. As an ex alpine racer with considerable waxing experience, I'm wondering if there are any reasons to not use glide wax from my existing collection, particularly, wide temperature range waxes.
