Colorado Weather Discussion Thread

Windy and COLD today at Wolf Creek. A solid 8" on the ground in South Fork at 7:00am, and snowed hard on the mountain until about 2pm. Snow was a bit wind affected and a little grabby because of the cold, but given the year we're having, well worth the trip. Hardly anybody on the mountain, rarely crossed other tracks, and fresh lines were the standard from bell to bell. Not much was open above the lifts/hike-to, so still should be a fair bit of freshies remaining for those willing to brave the cold.

I was on the Colorado butthurt train before it was cool to be on the Colorado butthurt train.

15 below at Loveland Pass this morning and worse than -10F at the base...holy shit. Good day for drinking hot cocoa and watching football.

1° and no wind over rabbit ears pass this morning. Bunch of bitches. Windblown pow is better than nothing.

Vail was dust on crust in the bowls, but not bad. Blown in in a few spots and the trees. I showed up prepared for a cold ass day of blowing snow, instead I got a sunny, kinda warm day with a few inches from the front passing.

can't believe we are having another god awful shitty season. those two weeks around x-mas were nice, at least. #firstworldproblems

It's going to be bad when we run out of water for agg/ranching this summer. Cheap meat in the short term at least.

Perhaps the remainder of CO Springs will burn down as well. I guess there is always a half full glass/empty reservoir.

this year gonna be no better than 2012 given the snotel snowpack graphs...we may get above 2012s peak in late march or april, but that isn't saying too much.

I think every reservoir east of Denver on the South Platte is completely empty already...there will be NO water for agg/ranching unless you are 1st or second on the water right totem pole and even that is questionable.

Well, at least it will be a great 14ers year. At this rate, they'll be snow-free by April. :mad:

At least we have marginally better snow conditions than Baltimore.

I haven't looked around for the answer but anyone have a guess at an answer as to why the poor season? Last year there was all the talk about a 100 year AO event. Same deal? Something different this time?

I don't know that there's a singular answer for the lack of snow for northern Colorado this season. Last season's AO was interesting, but that's more of a symptom than a cause. Wish it were easier to simply blame "XYZ weather pattern" for our troubles, but that's not the case that I know of...

Starting in March will be nice but everything will be dry and blown out by April. And then there's going to be too much smoke to be outside without a P95 respirator on.

I blame the lack of snow on republicans. This will be more the norm going forward, for the most part but we will also have some crazy years. Just more variable and unpredictable.
