this one hurts. A legend of a mom and was able to balance the delicate balance of being a bear but also being in an urban area. Her PBS special I saw recently was great. So sad to see her go this way.

Yeah, this really sucks. I always kind of worried about her when she took to being near roads and out in the public to keep the males away.
It sucks but people should know that was not a normal bear. She was Jackson's pet bear. Her behavior, territory, enormous litters and longevity were mostly due to the fact that people fed her. Which, of course, led to a need to constantly monitor and protect her. And that could only succeed for so long. It's surprising she lasted as long as she did.Quote:

She injured someone who disturbed her on a dead elk. Grizzlies are rarely euthanized if the victim surprises the animal on a natural carcass. That's normal behavior, even if it happens right next to a lodge.Quote:

Just sayin', nothing but dumb luck this didn't happen years ago. But it didn't so maybe people came away with the wrong lessons with what will eventually happen when you feed the bears. Dont forget, several of her cubs from later litters got killed because they learned to hang around roads and eat trash.
I used to live up in the woods and I saw my share of bears checking out the cabin and tossing my garbage can around. At night! Bear 399 and her cubs were so habituated to human food sources that they were feeding off of porches in broad daylight.

Crazy timing but just flew on Delta back to VT yesterday - they had the '399 Queen of the Teton's' documentary for a movie choice. Was a great watch if you havent seen it yet.... She had one helluva run

I got some Black Crows Camox Freebirds for touring with Salomon MTN bindings. They are light AF compared to what I usually tour on.
Then some Volkl race tigers for Andrew. And the greatest purchase for $5.......a mint pair of Alpine Trekkers.
They are more of a purchase for the ski wall/ garage museum but I imagine that Andrew will also bust them out on some gaper or maggot gathering
We also saw a pair of those old K2 Fours- the Red, White and Blue ones in great condition with the little red light, which we tried- and it still worked :D

I was up and at em and drove by at 705 and didn't wanna wait in line. Came back in 15 minutes and zero line.
Walked in, paid de moniez lebowski, and proceeded to the pole barrels and found 2 pairs of the Lifelink poles.
Not my desired model but in good shape so I bought the cheaper, mo bettah pair for $20 and promptly split after yakking at a few OG JHAF friends.
Went back in 2 hours at The OSU halftime and bought some janky pair of kastles with some clamps I wanted for $25.
Was a good day.

The Targhee pass system is such a bummer.
When you buy or renew a season pass online you sign a waiver, but for some reason the system only records those signatures for like 1/3 of people. At the start of the season more than half the people in a given lift line have passes that don't scan and they get sent back to the pass office to stand in a 2 hour long line to sign a waiver that they already signed online when they bought or renewed a pass.
It seems absolutely ridiculous. Targhee's solution is to show up to Habitat during trick or treat time on Halloween in order to see if they have have a signature on file for you.
It is such a junk show year after year.

meh, first world problems.. ghee is a pretty well run operation compared to many other resorts imo. sure, should/could have that figured out.. but you have a pass to targhee and get to see some of the most beautiful mountains when skiing. first world problems :)Quote:
