Got some new wheels for the kiddo's Altitude. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a1ba6b1bff.jpg
It’s got an XD freehub, but it doesn’t have an MS option. Trying to build the hardtail. The goal was to find a cheap MS wheel set and run the XT, but I found a deal on the 1/1s so am tempted to put them on the FS bike and move the Flows on that to the hardtail. I have an MS freehub for those. The Dusters are a spare set I got for free.
The wheels make way more sense, but I can’t help it, I’m intrigued by electric shifting.
Hey, fits 2 liters of water, this excellent for big backcountry rides!

I'm jealous of that bottle setup. I had to resort to zip ties to get a second cage on my Ripley. It's a little ghetto but I can carry 2x 25oz bottles and my home made pork chop bag.Attachment 390046
does anyone else wonder when hydration paks will be cool again ?
When they don’t feel like ass, being a sweat trap in either cold or hot environments?
I'm not a huge fan of the fanny pack especially when it's got a lot of water in it. But I haven't worn my actual pack like, at all this year. 2 bottles on the frame plus an extra 1.5l or so means I can get out for a pretty decent ride. Still been meaning to get a new pack though. This time of year with the need for extra layers and gloves and lights and stuff the fanny pack doesn't always cut it. And then really big days I'm usually wishing for more room. Think I have a raptor 10, so would go to 14-16l probably.
Anyway bought some things. I always notice my index fingers get cold so

carbon levers are bourgeois. Need to get the heated and cooled cockpit from sharper image
Ordered a Fox 36 grip 2 dampener for my performance level fork that came with a grip 1

Also never liked having the weight on my back/shoulders, so nope.
But yes, those are the best if you like that sort of thing…
The wingnut was the closest I got to an actual 'backpack' due to the lowrider way of it. Anything that puts weight in my thoracic region F-ups the DH, techy climb parts of an MTB ride for me. The vest I use for moto carries the water in the lumbar region and tools/food similarly low and the light stuff a little higher. Rode with bum packs for over 10yrs before the CamelBak came out so it's no biggie and now with the tech-bum-packs and little frame bags, it's a no brainer for me. The Fish BootyRider was my go to and now Osprey with dual bottle holders fits the bill. I usually put a bottle in the middle main compartment and stuff the bottle holders with apples, gloves, thin layers and a shell for easy grabbing. I also have an AC grade 3 and most packs compress that and the crepitus feels weird. High weight blows and has a tendency to keep my center to high and loose for any fun DH application. I'm sure some folks don't mind but there are good ways these days to distribute weight well. Also, the micro pumps are hella light and let you start with smaller amounts of water cuz you can grab it on the way...
Happy birthday to myself. Got Runted/full tune.
Only one ride in but all I can say is my bike feels completely different in a very good way.

I've done my bigger rides for the past few years with an SKS Anywhere cage on the top tube.

Same. Although in this picture it's carrying bear spray.

I just replaced my 2018 Hightower with a brand new 2022 Tallboy4. It’s a goddamn sex machine.
Big props to Joetron who did the build and swapped some old parts and provided some badly needed new-parts-bling. If you don’t know, joetron recently became the proud new owner of the famed Durango Cyclery, and it’s great seeing the new life he’s bringing to the place. Also, he’s already an active member of the community, attending city council meetings and seemingly plugging in with some good peeps around town. Not to mention, he’s a super nice guy and (apparently) a good wrench. If you want to support an LBS and a rad-dude, you should buy parts and bikes from him.
I was planning on using my 2018 Fox 36 but the steertube was too short. And it just so happens that he had a brand new Pike Ultimate in the shop. Some things were meant to happen, and I’m so stoked with how the fork feels. Also, he had a float DPS in my size, in-stock. I had Diaz do what Diaz does before it was ever even put on the frame.
Otherwise, new cassette, chain and chainring. New rotors, new pads and a fresh bleed. New stem (chromag HIFI 35 bling).
Same brakes (guides), same post (reverb), same wheels (Light bicycle/350).
The bike feels SO good. I’ve taken it on some chunk and have found found the edge of the rear travel, but never in a harsh way. It seems to ramp up hard at the very end of the stoke, but is right back in the stable-range immediately. The Pike at 140 seems just as stiff as my (maybe a little clapped out) 36.
I’m getting more bobbing when climbing in the rear than I’d like if I’m in wide-open mode, super solid in the middle setting. I’m gonna up the PSI on the shock next ride and see if I can provide a better pedaling platform with it wide open. Otherwise, even with the super low shock position, reaching the lever is not a problem.
I’m wayyy more comfortable climbing which I’m sure is the result of a longer steer tube on the pike and the shorter stem. I feel more comfortable than I did on my smaller frame Hightower and shorter steerer. I had a cervical vertebrae fracture a year ago and have been super uncomfortable on my bike. Until now. I rode nearly 40 miles with a shit ton of climbing over the weekend with no back pain.
Sorry for the long post, I’m just so stoked about my new bike I thought I should share.

What did you have Diaz do to the DPS, exactly?
Congrats!
