And congrats East or Bust!
EorB Congrats!
I've been having a frustrating day over here but that but a real smile of my face. Very happy for you two.
When were you last in Shasta? There's some new stuff that they've added to the Gateway system that is pretty good. Also, have you done Deadfall Meadow to Sisson Callahan?
Hatchery Ridge trails in Blue Lake are really fun. Wood Rat, Half Rack, Woodstock, and Dollywood were my favorites. Arcata Community Forest is also worth riding. Pedal the roads up to Ridge Loop (trail goes *through* a tree!), down Ridge Loop, over to Jump Trail, back up to Peanut Butter and down PB to the car.
For Shasta, close to town Bear Springs to Steam Donkey to MX is a great descent. There's an off-map extension that goes all the way down to 89 that is easy to find on the heat map. Easy dirt road climb up.
If you can get a shuttle, Deadfall Meadows to Sisson Callahan is one of my favorite rides ever. 3 mile/1800 vert climb through a gorgeous alpine basin, followed by a 8 mile/4500 vert descent. Pics from the Deadfall climb:

48 degrees and sunny. Nice morning

If you're feeling extra frisky you can HAB to the top of Eddy for some Shasta views and an extra 1,000 ft of descending.

What a day. Was a bit nervous about the weather to start off, there were some dark nasties hanging overhead and the wind was whipping, and it was cold at the top. Thankfully heading into the woods mitigated the wind and the sun came out, and it ended up being a spectacular colorful adventure with the 10-11 year olds.

Fall is killing it in here. Congrats to east or bust! Excellent choice in riding buddy.
I'm on a southern Utah trip with mine right now. Thunder Mountain got nixed for an unplanned new-to-us ride across the road: ascending tech up the Cassidy Trail from Red Canyon and then down Losee Canyon, which was about half trail and half mud/gravel riverbed. Can't recommend that route, but there were some views.

The Arch Trail at the bottom of Losee is a cool hike. Luckily the other kneepad was still in the car when we got back.

Today was supposed to be an easy one, but I forgot that I hadn't drug her out on the longest loop of Guac before. Everything is a learning experience. Views help.

Some cool skies in PC yesterday. Great weather for a ride since it stayed dry.

Rode there last summer. It was a last minute trip and only had time for a half day ride so I didn't do much planning. Don't recall what I even rode. The main descent was north of the shuttle road, then I did some loop trails lower down. Some were good others were meh. Ended up on some brand new (not finished) trail for a bit even.
Haven't done Deadfall to Sisson Callahan but it is on my to do list. Pics look amazing!
Ah bummer that loop rides a lot better the other direction. And there is some nice trail north of what you did if you ride up Casto Canyon, which is atv trail and less pummeled by horses than Losee. I rode Thunder Mtn as well, was a bit shocked how much that trail has deteriorated.
With storm this weekend I headed down to Gooseberry Mesa. Saw exactly zero other riders in 4 hrs this afternoon/evening. Thought I'd get rained on as there were storm clouds all around, but only got a few drops. Camping is wide open now the weekend is over too. Gonna do another ride tomorrow then maybe head over to Kanab.
From a couple days ago.
Not bad color at first. Then climb up a few hundred feet and shit got real.

Weaverville highly recommended! An old trailbuilding buddy works for the FS here and seemed to have a free hand. Red dirt and oak chaparral on the front side, big trees and norcal cool dark on the backside, a couple of fun flow trails plus a long new shuttle trail. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4026aca73c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...232ab6d817.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f44a7aa23e.jpg

Glad you liked it. I grew up in the 'ville and still have family there. I *highly* recommend going to Cafe on Main for dinner if you haven't skipped town yet.
