He's extremely smart and a fucking handful to manage but getting better as he ages. Weirdly he gives hugs - has anyone else had a dog do this? We didn't train him to do this but he stands on his hind legs if you are on the couch or bending down, wraps his front legs around your neck, and pulls you toward him like a human hug. He will only do it to people he knows well, so maybe six people total. He did this to a worker at the boarding kennel we use, and she said she almost cried.Quote:

I try not to encourage it being that he's 85 lbs and all, but he seems to realize his size and doesn't do it to small children or anything. Oso really loves to hug his greeting out, then he goes and does his own thing, wants to play or walk. Not much of a long term snuggler, but occasionally he's okay with it. Good to hear other people are also getting dog hugs, ha! We call them Doug Hugs because his name is Doug. The border collies really do latch on - It's a two-armed firm latch/hold and then pull, not just putting arms on your shoulder. I can't even see his head because it's on my shoulder or he's sniffing my ear. I've seen videos of Aussies doing the latch. I've had two other B.C. mixes and they never did this.

I do wonder what she thinks of us not talking to her as much (seemingly to her). She’s def less of a guard dog since she just doesn’t hear normal volume sounds
