No guides, and only rode with ourselves. Mostly just a lot of staring at maps over the winter. Some strava stalking as well. A lot of the stuff in that zone is actually on trailforks.

For the most part we did really well. A couple things here and there where, in hindsight, I think we did the route a little bit wrong. What we did worked fine, but there are what look to be better ways to do some segments. But I'd say we were 95% successful. I think most of our success gets chalked up to the les arcs and meribel zones being bike friendly and pretty easy to navigate.

Managed to sneak away while on vacation with my wife's family and get some miles in. Most of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail between Princeton and Tulameen is closed due to washouts, but you can get by with a combo of trail sections and the road that runs beside it.

Just barely beat the storm on Monday night... had to forgo post-ride beers, but we made it back to the truck and loaded the bikes right as it started pouring. We could see it coming from miles away.

Oh, and this thread continues to deliver.

I did a big backcountry loop with Lucky dog as a reward for getting all my materials to layout. 22 miles and we saw one human, one bear, several dogs, and a hundred sheep. Hard to take action shots when solo, but here's a few. Smells like fall in the high country.

New bike park is getting ready to open nearby on Tribal land. They had a soft opening last weekend with half price tickets, so I stopped in on my way up north. There are some fun features. I thought it was ok and will get better as things get dialed in, build more trails and add infrastructure.


The keyboard warriors who were foaming at the mouth for it to open are already bitching about it: Not enough trails. Trails are too short. Too many green trails. Not enough berms. You have to climb like 100ft. No shade. Too hot. Too expensive. The shuttle drives too fast. But also takes too long. No option to self shuttle. They won't let me ride my e-bike up the shuttle road. And on and on like they are expecting Whistler from day 1.

The only issue with the shuttle was when it was fully loaded up bikes were packed in too tight to be able to hold onto the side. With a few less people there was more room and it was fine. 20min ride to the top.

By early afternoon the crowd had thinned by half. By 3pm there were only 4 of us waiting for the shuttle, so they loaded up the Ranger. That was a really fun 10 min ride to the top. I was the only rider there for last lap.

First night ride.
Pretty cool, even my familiar trail had new surprises. The headlamp washes out some trail texture so hit more ruts than intended.

I think I mentioned using one light on the handlebar along with one on the helmet for descents. The handlebar light is lower down so it throws shadows where there are things like ruts, rocks and holes that the helmet light might not pick up.
