Dodge is awesome today. Sunny and warm with fucking great snow.

it’s gonna shit snow this week
low snow levels in the foothills will create chaos east and above Hwy 49 in the Low Sierra
good week to go to Yosemite NP and tour or ski Badger Pass - weekend reservations required for day use park entrance if you’re not a pass holder
DR says their forecast models are showing up to 100”
108 is going to be an absolute shit show
it’s already snowing on Hwy 49 - really cool to see sun and clouds and snow and poppies and lush green hills
I’m heading up to Shasta for a few days
Good call mike! Low snow levels = Caltrans is spread pretty thin. Plus Ski Week means the roads are busy
I will be at Bear on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Anyone here planning on being there? I need a ski partner, so I can play in the trees and Griz, maybe a village run - and honestly be able to tell my lady about my day without her overworrying.
I think I’m going to park the RV in the lower lot for this trip.

I’ll ping you and a couple other guys on the Book of Faces
hopelesslyadolescent to the white courtesy phone please
Damn, the forecast is making me rethink…

8-10’?
don’t wanna get stuck eh?
probably a good call
it’s rugged at Mt Shasta Ski Park today
I have shifted to Wednesday and Thursday.

that’s better
Maybe, though I'd want to drive Tuesday eve, and that looks challenging by the current forecast.
Wednesday might be too deep, though that's no excuse. Did the Grizz ever open in 2-3 days after a not-that-big storm? (Mattly's 2 incher on Thursday night that skied like 2+ feet - methinks he did too much blower and confused his inches and feets)
207 impassable
edit: Hwy 4 closed
Dodge Ridge is closing through Wednesday due to extreme weather and to give employees a break
Quite a severe engineering test!

I honestly don’t know how that old ticket shack is still standing
They built better back then

Bear Valley is closed tomorrow as well
tough week in Central California
I know that folks are working on the hill at DR and BV today and tomorrow
yeah the CHP is escorting propane trucks and SCE up the hill

One of our Officers was at the road closure on SR-4 at Brice Station this morning. He had just stepped out of the patrol vehicle to stretch when a large tree fell on top of the patrol car. Thankfully there were no injuries to anyone on scene however the patrol car is totaled.

Can't see ya picts, but hiway 108 was 1 lane in many places this morning. Lotsa people at Dodge * with Bear and Carson Spur closed. Shady spots were still pretty nice.
* for a weekday
yeah this morning was great
hiked up to the top before opening - skied Jackpot to the bottom of 7 - at 9 they told me 1/2 hour so I did a couple Chair 3 laps then went to 7 - anything in the sun was overcooked by 11 - I left at noon
Highway 4 opened
Bear was sparsely attended in the AM, and had some powder. Also some wind board, wind crust, and sun crust. Snowboarders were loving it. I had good luck hunting. If I read Mattly correctly, there's a 1% chance Grizzly runs for a couple hours tomorrow. FWIW - the county says stay home.
which county?

"Stay home this is not the weekend for fun!"
don’t worry about it
BV is in Alpine County
the snowplay crowds were out in force on 108 in some strange places yesterday afternoon
Dodge Ridge Road got fucked by a wreck that almost got me coming down the hill in the afternoon
the skiing was ok, but the wind and zero visibility started shutting things down
I’m probably going to lay low Sunday and let it snow

CALM BETWEEN THE STORMS at Shaver and Huntington Lakes.
State Route 168 remains closed for recreational travel.
The Shaver, Big Creek, and China Peak areas are currently accessible to property owners and local employees only.
SR 168 above Shaver Lake to Huntington Lake remains single-track in many areas and is restricted to CHP escorts of essential services and emergency access ONLY.
We are preparing for the next series of snow storms this weekend which has already begun.
Thank you again for your patience. We can’t wait to see you all enjoying the beautiful mountains once we reopen to everyone.

Sunday, March 5: After conversations with CHP, Cal-Trans, our staff on site, and the fact it is continuing to snow heavily today, we have made the tough decision to postpone our reopening. We're now shooting to reopen Wednesaday, March 8th, however, we cannot get a committment from Cal-Trans to see if this will happen. All of us, including the public agencies, will spend the 3 days following the storm tonight digging out everything from roads to parking lots to lifts and much much more to be ready for Wednesday morning, and another 2 months of fantastic March and April skiing and riding. We will continue to provide updates regularily over the next few days as we lead into our reopening Wednesday morning at 9AM.
Season Passes for the 2023/24 season will be on sale Friday, March 10 and valid starting Saturday, March 11. It's an all new season pass, called the Cali Pass, valid at Mountain High, China Peak and Dodge Ridge plus all the best benefits including the Powder Alliance, with access to 18 other resorts including Sierra at Tahoe and Mt. Shasta in California. There is also an option for a China Peak only season pass.

Bear opened after some minor misfortunes in the morning. I had minor misfortunes that kept me away till afternoon. Very nice snow. Really nice.
Road has slick spots. A 4x4 struggled in the parking lot (user error?)
Did I say the snow was heavenly? It was heavenly. Face shot before the first turn. White room was open and I went in.
