April 30, 2011- 4:30 a.m.
UDOT plans to conduct artillery avalanche control work in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Saturday April 30th 2011 starting at 0630 am. Please stay clear of all highway avalanche paths until after the road has been re-opened. Estimated reopening time is 8:30 a.m.
Roda closed this morning, interlodge etc etc. I have been here a long time and this is just plain incredible. I understand the snow but it have high in the 20's the first of May
On my way to the 'Bird (or rather, to wait in line at the avy gate)... good god I picked the right year to move out here
I'll stay sharp
Rode that infamous shot in Big today, for the first time. We had four dudes performing slope tests, simultaneously, N and NE aspects at bout 10,000. The result was pure bliss, no funny business. Oh and Justin, sorry about that blast that put you into the tree, didn't mean to, I swear. May Winter live on.

Anyone notice if the cornices are really big up there? I got turned around on Timp last weekend due to huge cornices, and don't want to have that happen again.
12"+ of great pow today, gotta love Utah!
What Snowbird looks like in late April, I love this place!!!

the 'Bird did not suck today...
Took one last tram lap around 3:30 down the Cirque and literally couldn't see 5 feet in front of me. Upper Cirque and Gad Chutes were the best I've seen them all season. What a day..
Just arrived in Seattle, as I was on the I15 north I looked to my right and knew I was missing another one of those days...damn! Oh well, hope you guys got after it today..
It was really cool leaving Salt Lake on April 30th just like when I came mid November, fucking puking snow

This is what the Bird looked like in early April. Shit looks dangerous with all those rocks and whatnot, yikes.

Man that's sad you had to leave today Jeri, was that a tear on your lens? It woulda been in my case. Glad you got to enjoy such a great year in the backcountry .
Could have sworn the bird had it's own thread where your unofficial.com watch me huck this rock videos and the l'm headed down to wait in line obs went. Not that I'm not stoked that your getting after it or had a great season.
Was able to get on the peak of the mower and look down at Alecs crews tracks from above. nice
Good turns on N and Nw aspects off that slide path. Overall pretty good bonding and instablities limited to managable sluff off steep terrain. cept W. facing hasty pits showed easy shears failng on grapple at crust below new snow. Sun peaked out enough that lower angled and elavation set up by the afternoon.
As for cornices on the twins haven't been up that way for a while but judging by the size of this
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...m/P4303368.jpg
and others in similiar terrain and aspects I'd be inclined to think there'd be a few sizable ones if you go pics and pertant obs are appriciated
memorial day wknd looking good
Fantasy bowl today was well a fantasy. :)
I'm expecting some footage from you Alx of those two runs we did. :D
Ya, fuck the bird...
Fantasy Ridge, Honeycomb Cliffs, Honeycomb Canyon. R.I.P.

Also, Bamboozled By Love. And to finish, BoomShroomShackaLacka.
Skied good, on them there N-NE-NW shots from 10,500' today.
Anyone get a feel of any East faces at roughly 11,000' today?

Well, was there any observable conditions or was it all slashed up?
In case you can't dig the Bone Thugs; I had a request for Hall and Oates, but Toto is all I could muster.

The Twins were good to go. Big cornice at the very peak, but just a short ways down the ridge we were able to drop in. Nice creamy dense powder at 12:00, on the verge of getting hot. High NE aspect of Mill B on exit at 3:30 was still creamy, lower down had already formed a zipper crust. What a winter.
Jesus alx8123, we know you hate the Bird, give it a fucking rest.
^^^^ and toto come on man my old man stoner hippie ass would have lent ya a traffic cd that would have nailed it.
Keeping with the confrontational turn of this thread,
Headed up Millie was surprised to see sledhead tracks in catherines even more surprised
when 5 of them ripped by us on wolverine bowl and parked just below the peak.

I guess my jestingly "I'm gonna tell Peaches ya all are highmarking out of your hood" remark set off a some of the 2 stroke testatorone rage and it gots a bit ugly. I'm no expert on mining claims and public lands, but i'm pretty damn sure that the permission to be there granted by R Doyles kid is total bullshit. So one enraged biler brah went bilerestic and threatened to kick our asses repeatedly with the standered faggot/homo
fuck your mom stuff highschool kids with little imagination use. Well the final 50' of elevation must of been to much cause he never managed to make it up and after dragging those skin like shit rev/rev fatties uphill I'll be damned if I'm gonna give up vert for an asswhooping:biggrin:
So finally once the video cam came out and discussion turned to sled registration #'s
the yahoos got back on their high $$$ penis extenstions and descended the blue square
intermidiate way down.
Leaving the hippies to partake in pre ski May Day safety tradition in the silence and serinity of a peaceful mountain peak before descending the
double black Gnar of the chutes the straightchuter discovered and named:wink:.
If anybody knows these yahoos buy em a gps,, some xanax a clue specially kyle or keith worthington or whatever your name is I was gonna write it down but "then I got High"
:the_finge http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...m/P5013378.jpg
Wolverine was titties so filled in so many 200" line variations there was some filming /slutting going down and watching good skiers rip classic lines in prime conditions is always a nice bonus.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...m/P5013380.jpg
Had I known some jongs:wink: were rippin up shot 22 and 23 of Fantasy Bowl:rolleyes2
We'd of gone up for another lap there.
Headed over honeycomb way, only to find our fantasy had been shared.
NW into silver skied great but below 8500 snow quality deteriorated rapidly.
a cool ridgetop breeze and intermitant cloud cover probably spared N facin upper elevation pow for another day and it was straight up pukin snow and blowing as we drove down ~ 4:20. old man winter aint givin up yet. Yaall git sum I gots a garden and landscaping to attend to.
Thanks for the E twin ob jong:wink:

Ban sledding in the Wasatch.

Now that Alta is technically backcountry I shall submit this ob from today:
High north facing still holds soft and stable pow :)

Great shots guys!! Dont you just love this time of year!!!
Damn guys, looks like some Tuff-Jong shit went down today. Strong work on the Ribbon Jim and Mark!. Me - 'so you gonna do the E Face with us?' Mark - 'Nah, me and Jim have something shorter in mind.'
E facing 11,253' to 9500' skied pretty well this morning. Hit the 'trail' at 2 to summit around 8-9. Beautiful up there today, got hotter than a Russian Whore in a quick minute though. The temps kind of canceled our plans to exit Coalpit so we were forced to slog out Bells. Showed up in the Valley a few hours later, and it felt like Florida in the middle of July.

One of those times when "leading" is safer than "following".
nice on the ribbon guys. can take credit for the pre highboy steepness lap with a bunch of free riders. lars CA was bored by the castle couloir so we went to the top and found those lines. pretty fun and a great way to start out the highboy party. didnt want to post in here because alta was still inbounds when we skied it.
Lars CA on tele
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/IMG_6833.jpg
Silas CA no line like a straight line i thnk crossman skied the magenta line, the rest of us took the 100cm choke over steep ice.

then we closed down the high boy party (alta backcountry after 5pm) with out even trying still harnessed up with the harnesses we didn't need
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/IMG_6997.jpg
nice smuggs! skied that line (Jaws) on the last day of '04-'05; looks just a tad bit more technical this season - but still good to go. curious about the castle couloir though. from the best vantage point near sugarloaf, it looked like it choked pretty tight or even smallish cliffed out - is that the case or not? any shots of it?
thanks in advance.
