Not sure on your math there. Just taking 30 mpg avg ( pretty good) and 150,000 miles life (not so good) you burn 5,000 gallons so $2 increase is $10,000 increase. No idea where you came up with the total for gas and maintenance

I'm all in favor of the sudden urge for cleaner electric vehicles. I also see it as an emo overreaction. When you look at all the expenses that go into owning a vehicle, the current gas price surge is rationally only a small argument in a vehicle-buying decision. There's reasons so many people drive trucks and SUVs instead of more efficient cars. They don't care about spending thousands more for gas over the vehicle's life (nor do they really care about abusing the Earth and its people to extract and burn the oil).
I was thinking about it yesterday after paying $6/gal, if I went from my current 17mpg using premium to 40mpg using regular I'd save at least $75 a day when I'm working. I work 12-14 days a month (on the road) so if I put that same $900-1k/mo into a used hybrid of some sort it would pay for itself fairly quickly. Too bad the used car market is such a mess.
Folks like gravitylover who drive all day long can justifiably complain a little about paying more for gas. Not doing the math, but roughly looks like 25 gallons per day. Also, if he paid $4/gallon before the recent surge, he already had a $50 a day incentive to switch to that 40mpg vehicle.
Hedge oil/gas prices by buying XOM/CVX/DVN....its not too late.
