No idea maybe some one who has ground out the square peg can comment?
I think the latchs are so you can loosen all the buckles and not spend time to re-thread them on the ladders which is especialy good for that 1 top buckle system cuz you spend time either way futzing with those buckles,
it would be real easy to drill the head off the pivot and remove whichever latches bug you
I will pull tongues for a 2hr+ hike but for a 1hr yoyo not usually
those latches that snap down over the ladders are just some kind of plastic so I am suprised they haven't broken
Yeah, the latches make good sense, if you dont have to undo the buckle (like to get the tongues in and out). I took them off the middle buckle for that reason

So I've got five days on my Vulcans and every time I use them I get this black crap dripping down the back of the boot. Looks like the metal lean lock part is rubbing against the carbon and creating carbon dust, which then mixed with snow makes this black carbon crap. Dynafit is sending my new lean lock inserts to see if that solves anything. Anybody else had this?

OK cool. Thanks. I'm gonna stick some gorilla tape in key areas and see if that stops it. Wonder if this is one of the reasons they went to fiberglass cuff.

I took off the lowest buckle and cut off the tongue locating peg. Changing out is much better. Best of all though, Vulcans are stiff enough for me to tour completely without the tongue. I only use the tongue for resort days. Don't really understand why people say the vulcan is too stiff. I tried them once without the tongues and didn't like it and I'm 175. Amazing boot though, I didn't even have to cook the liners
This^^ there are actualy a lot of things you can do to mess with stiffness, for the down I found the mercury too soft without tongue but ski-able, the vulcan is ok without tongue but i like it better with the tongueQuote:

Haven't run through the entire thread but just wondering if anyone has comments regarding new and 'improved' vulcan vs. old vulcan a/b comparison for flex and feel?
It would be >1000 bucks guido, if you are lookin again I would scope out a slightly used vulcan for 2-300$, if its got removable stops & removable tongue you could phluff around with a boot you already know where to punch for WAY cheaper
Not lookin' Al, just curious for curiosity's sake...have't seen much feedback on the 'new' ones. Found my happy place with the maestrale's; thought they skied like shit with stock liners but after throwing the intuition luxuries in and fixing the cuff slop with the ghettoworks high tech mod, good synergy. I really like the flex profile/stance angles along with the fit after punching 10mm in forefoot. They walk as well as and ski 'feel' much better than the mercuries even though less stiff.
