Reading this
told me all I needed to know about the prosecution's motives in this case. Their priority is not justice, but media attention.Quote:
"In order to avoid further litigious distractions by Mr. Baldwin and his attorneys, the District Attorney and the special prosecutor have removed the firearm enhancement to the involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of Halyna Hutchins on the 'Rust' film set," Brewer said.
She added: "The prosecution's priority is securing justice, not securing billable hours for big-city attorneys."
Now they'll try to get him to accept a plea deal.
100% I had the same read - like this is some political optics cable news talking points BS vs. the conduct of a dignified DA office
edit: I think I was triggered a bit by it. calling out that your defense attorney is doing their job. like calling out that you didn't just roll over to cop interrogation re: 'shut the fuck up'. yeah, that's my rights you're downtalking
Apparently that’s only something a “big city attorney” would’ve objected to. A “small town attorney“ would be expected to understand the rural political circumstances, and adjust their actions accordingly, client welfare be damned.
Is it just me or does everyone who thinks Baldwin should go to prison also believe Rittenhouse deserves a fucking medal?
Sounds ...... plausible.
in this life justice he not get may
Hmmmmmm
I don't get the connection.

edit; Nmind, I read a little closer re: ex post facto laws. They kinda slipped that one in there.
Like I said, the DA will now push for a plea deal to save face.
Oh yeah, he (and about 90% of accused) should reject a deal.
Well, waddayaknow. Open records request reveals that a special prosecutor appointed to help in the case was wanting the appointment publicized, hoping that it would help her campaign for the state legislature. She won that campaign, and continued to serve as a special prosecutor, until she stepped down recently because Baldwin's lawyers asserted that serving as prosecutor and in the legislature simultaneously violated the state constitution (prosecutors initially defended her role but she stepped down before a judge was set to issue a ruling on her role).
Hmmmm.... Let's see:
Charges dropped against Alec Baldwin in fatal 'Rust' shooting: Sources
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime...rFU?ocid=hpmsn
"We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident," Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, the attorneys for Baldwin, said in a statement.
It's ok folks, just like before when they dropped one charge (that was based on a law not in effect at the time of the shooting), they're just dropping the charges to avoid further litigious distractions and to prevent more billable hours for big-city attorneys.
With all apologies to our Land of Enchantment mags, New Mexico is such a continual shitshow.Quote:
In a statement, Heather Brewer, a spokeswoman for the district attorney, said the prosecution had dropped the firearm enhancement to “avoid further litigious distractions by Mr. Baldwin and his attorneys.”
“The prosecution’s priority is securing justice, not securing billable hours for big-city attorneys,” Ms. Brewer said on Monday.
Didn't see that coming at all. /s
