At least for the western softwoods, more BTU's in the bark than the round. Fire tolerant species the best.
I knew this guy once that only burned Doug-fir bark. Messy, but he didn't need a saw...and his wood pile looked weird.
Here, loose bark goes in the fire pit.
I just save up bark and debris in buckets and burn with lumber off cuts in fall in wood stove. A quick hot fire is all I need right now.
Splitting area, inside wood (mostly ash) goes to one pile, fire pit wood (mostly pine) goes to another and bark gets set cleaned up as I go. Try and keep as tidy as possible.

No but that's shitty pine that is use in the outdoor fire pit, goes up quickly and is up in stones so it's not in the ground...don't really care about it. Good stuff for inside is covered year round
Got it. My area is currently very fugly and getting cleaned up to hopefully build a woodshed. Bark is getting set aside.

Pine is my good stuff other than getting some Doug Fir and a tiny bit of birch. If it wood I'll burn it.
Same here. Almost all pondo pine this year. I figure I have about a half cord of bark.
Burns great but I have plenty of non pine species that I can burn in the fireplace cleanly that I keep the pine to outside.
I mix in a bit of aspen so the fire burns pretty clean plus my wood generally is at least two years under cover before I burn so its nice and dry even with limited splitting.

The saw was prepped and it ran flawlessly, everything went well,
Popped an extra strength Robaxecet soon as we finished, pretty tired but nothing really hurts
now following up with home brew pinot grigio/ smoked salmon

Agreed. The backstory would be interesting, especially the sourcing of the original piece. I can't imagine the hours.

That looks stout! Mine will not have that stoutness, but I'll probably be digging the holes for posts in a few days. It looks like you put your AK mill to use, too.
The other side doesn't look as nice as the roof is all from the extra pieces they send you. So not all the same colour or the same profile. Plus a couple of pieces were a bit banged up. But it was free , the roof that is , so the only cost was the hardware, lag screws and some threaded rod, and the 2x4s for strapping.
I know some of you are skiing, but not here. So, off to the mesa today for another load of piñon and a little juniper.
