Just had a Hop Nosh IPA from Unita. Impressive stuff.
heh. local liquor stores clearancing all the old Uinta Hop Notch for $6.
I thought hop notch was pretty mediocre. I found it really sweet, without much hop bite.
It was hop notch, not hop nosh, so it couldve been sitting for too long and starting to get funky. Definitely didn't taste very fresh.
Ya, must have been old. It has plenty of bite. Not like BA is the be all end all, but it rates in the 90's over there.
The Odell's IPA on nitro in the tasting room I had a few years ago still stands as the greatest beer experience of my life.
I just made a trip to NM and had a great time at La Cumbre's brewery (as well as Il Vicino and a new distillery right near there). I dug their Elevated but loved their Project Dank IPA: pretty damn hoppy and delicious. Elevated didn't taste like much after drinking the Dank.
As much as I'm one of Knee Deep's biggest fanboys, I finally had the Batch 138 IPA and it wasn't my style. Tasted more like a Dogfish Head than a west coast IPA in terms of style of malt.
However, I cracked a Knee Deep Simtra on Saturday night, and I was awake at the beginning of the Clippers-Warriors game and passed out on the couch by the end. Besides the alcohol potency (11.2% or something like that), I love this beer's flavors. You've got to let it warm up a bit, and the dried papaya flavors open up quite a bit. Really great beer, one of the best year-round imperials out there.
Anyone tried the Green Flash Green Bullet yet?

Awesome beer. Upfront characteristics of an IPA with a bright citrusy flavor, and a heavy rye whiskeyish finish. Gotta find the bullet, big fan of big flash.
^ When I put on my marketing hat, I understand the new labels completely. But I like the old labels so much better.
I also remember when Knee Deep's IPA was called "Knee Deep in Powder IPA," and kind of miss that too. What can I say, I'm old and resistant to change. Now where is my feather pen ...
I've been digging Dry Dock Double IPA. Surprised about the amount of love for Odell IPA and hate for Lagunitas. I burnt out on Odell a while back, might have to revisit. I think Lagunitas Brown Shugga and Undercover are great. Not IPAs per se but there are a ton of "strong ales" and "barleywines" that I think are really just big IPAs.
Finally got to try some of Surly's offerings. Furious is Top Notch. Overrated is, perhaps intentionally, overdone.
After drinking a few six packs, from various stores, of the Odell IPA, I have determined that it is highly dependent on how fresh it is. Fresh, it is awesome, sitting on the shelf a few weeks, it is still good, but the citrus aroma fades to bring it down to above average.
As far as Lagunitas, The fact that they are the fastest growing brewery in the US makes them less appealing to the hipsters, while in actuality, they are still doing a pretty damn good job IMHO. I'm not really into the Hop Stoopid, but they definitely have a few solid entries into the category that this thread is based upon. I still stand by my comment that Daytime is a great beer, as is Lagunitas Sucks. I like their style.
WOW SHREDGNAR! YOUVE STUMBLED ONTO SOMETHING! IPA IS HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON FRESHNESS AND HOWS IT BEEN HANDLED! THANKS MAN!

Once again, Hugh proves that he has no idea what he is talking about and is just regurgitating an opinion he picked up from the guy he sucked off in the bathroom some hipster beer bar last night.

O'dells gets sucked off in this thread because it's a very good beer that's crafted in CO, so all of the Colorado homers suck it off. Like shredgnar the cool beer hipster.
Hugh, why don't you go upstairs and spend some quality time watching Days of our Live with your moma. Clearly you enjoy creating drama around inane subjects that can arouse you and only you. It's just beer man, it's not something worth arguing about.
