Damn, AC pays $23.

lol... I guess that's the difference living in an area where the world is your gym versus, well, NY. Even my work-supported gym costs $35 a month right out of my paycheck.
My weekend running story: (ignore if you've heard before! <wink>)
I signed up to run a 5K at Sandy Hook, NJ - - the same race that I did last year as part of my marathon training - - and was really planning on trying to go for time (last year, I just ran it to run it and had a 21:00 so was going to try to break 20:00 this year). I actually got to the front of the starting pack (smaller race) and went out strong at the beginning. After going for a little a little less than 9 minutes, they actually had a sign that said - - in no fewer words - - "5K turn-around point." Basically, it was about a 1/4 mile too soon.
The first 3 people kept on going and me and another guy were a bit confused. We turned around and started jogging back, unsure if this is what we were supposed to be doing, and then see a cop car driving up and flashing his lights right by the peloton. So we figured we had to be doing it right and continue back a little faster. He then gets next to us and tells us that the turn-around is "up over that hill..." By this time, already passed by a few people so sprint past them, find the turn around, and finish the race. 22:00 minutes. Bleh. Looks like I'll have to find another 5K to try again...
But, it is gorgeous today and I just went for a run at lunch. Hopefully, my stamina won't suffer during my hockey game tonight!!
As noted before, I hate running...
Short story -- Anyone have one of those belts you hook a dog leash on so you don't have to carry a leash while you run? My wife does. I have a big Yellow Lab - he likes to run! I hooked him up for a 2 mile run around the lake (I haven't run in a while - it hurts my sciatic and my knees). Basically fought him the whole way - read: held him back. My quads have NEVER hurt so bad over such a short distance!!  I hate running. My dog can't bike. Looks like my wife gets to run with the dog! :D Rollerblading is an entirely different story however - I get even with Salomon (my dog) when we do that!! :FIREdevil
That's what I do (did). I have some Profile Jammers. But now I have ITM Mantis Wing handlebars on both my roadies, so the clip-ons won't work anymore since you can't put them on wing type bars anyway. That's okay though - I didn't use them much. If you don't ride that way ALOT, it's a tough position to get used to and when you're stretched out on a true road bike, it isn't terribly comfortable.
It amazes me how many people are sporting full-on tri-bikes these days though. It's especially entertaining to see them tolling around the bike paths at about 10 mph in full aero-pose!! Talk about GAPERS!! :fmicon: Technology in the hands of the un-initiated can be dangerous. :tdo13: I especially like seeing the occasional tri-geek show up for a group ride...:rolleyes2 That's a BIG no-go. Of course I used to be one of them (Scott DH bars anyone? Circa 1987??), so I don't give them too much grief. But they just don't understand the dynamic of the group ride and how dangerous an inexperienced aero-bar guy in a group can be.
This made me laugh and deserves to be here as well as where it was placed...
in the words of Mavrick...
"Moral of the story... never run in a shirt you wouldn't mind wiping your ass with."
(For the rest of that story, see http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=84956)
Heh - yeah, there's a big difference from when I was racing (regularly) at 155#, vs. the 185# I'm at now... And I'm really not *that* fat... I'm working to change that a bit now (better get it done before I get into my 40's...). Ideally, I should be about 170-175# or so...in my eyes anyway.
There are squirrels in my stomach with regard to tonight's trail running... maybe because last year when I ran it the first time I got LOST???
Yah. That's it, I'm sure...
Better to have squirrels in your stomach than a bear running up behind you. ;)
Still not feelin' it for tonight's trail running?
I recommend you run early - the bears prefer to wander at dusk out where I live.
The squirrels, however, are all yours.
no bears... just hills that I wasn't prepared for but will be next week.
it was great to have my son w/me to cheer me across the finish.
a tentative connection with an old friend. not sure about that one. more difficult than hills...
and so it begins.
Just got back from a 3 day business trip. 3 different cities, 3 states, 4 flights, 4 meetings a day (9, 11, 1, and 3), then head right to airport...do it again. rinse cycle repeat. get in hotel..check emails. drink a beer. crash. do it again.
Get home at 6:30 today. Feeling like a couped up caged animal. Out the door at 7. Sneaker on singletrack at 7:15. Anaerobic and lovin it by 7:30. No better motivator for a killer stress eliminating workout run than working too hard.
it's that time of year again:

AGREED!!! Nothing like a little 15 year old "I hate you and don't even want to SEE you on Mother's Day!" or even finding out that thing you saw between your bf and bgf while things were going south w/the bf wasn't all in your head to make a run a killer one. :) I did the hilly run (thanks Viva) and did NOT walk the one that usually gets me. Bring on that Thursday night course.
:FIREdevil
Prob'ly should have saved that run for when he didn't even call me for Mother's Day... and for when I have occasion to experience how crummy people can be. That hill is mine tomorrow morning!!
Bump for HELLO WHERE THE HELL IS THE MASSAGE GUY???
Ran the damn hills again and am feeling 'em in my SI's... and oh yeah big time hit by the sleepy bat...
Paging BeanDip... when is your triathlon???
man, i've been bad here in california, both in nutrition and exercise. yesterday I finally got my ass out and ran 3 miles by my parent's house.

Went up to Boulder on Saturday to hit the BB's treadmill for a qualifying time. Turns out I'm fast enough for the A-wave. Never thought I was much of a runner until now. 45:00 10k will be easy, just got 2 weeks to get ready and try to blast out a 40:00
Please tell me you're very very young...
:frown:
I better not forget my geritol tonight.
I just got a Forerunner 305 and put up my first run with it on Motion Based: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/2742719
I really like all of the neat little graphs they give you. It's fun to nerd out and look at them. The web page seems much nicer than the PC software. Does anyone have the "Standard" account? Is it worth the monthly fee for extra storage?
went out for the leg stretcher tonight just to keep limber for tomorrow night's trail running and have to say WHERE THE HELL DID THOSE SHIN PAINS COME FROM???? I'm gonna hope it was the little bit I was on the pavement...
Still hoping to shave some time off, tomorrow night... looks like lots mud...
So I know it's only 3.7 miles... :)
But I took 2:18 off my time tonight and I AM PSYCHED!!!
Did not achieve my goal of not taking a walking step -- up a couple of the hills my lungs just didn't have it -- but I walked WAY less than last week and I still powered over the finish!!!
Thanks to my friend who came to cheer me on. Knowing he was there kept me running!!!
VG, next time you are in Utah I'll hook you up with the MAN. He works for me and is "hands" down the best sports massage therapist I've ever had work on me. This guy is sooo good, that he is consistently booked 2-3 weeks out.
On a small side note: I'll be running the Squaw Peak 50m on June 2nd and I'm starting to get very nervous!
Wow next time I'm in UT was almost next weekend! Damn... that woulda been nice... I'll definitely hit you up for the name when I get there!
Good new on the trail running front -- I mis-heard the starter/timer guy at the finish and I actually took THREE:18 off my last week's time! (and no I wasn't sand bagging last week...)
GOOD LUCK TO BEAN DIP THIS WEEKEND!! Be tough!
my second 5K is tomorrow, looking for a sub 30 minute effort
28:12
FKNA! I am thrilled with this time, this couse was hillier than the last race. I went out a little too fast completing the first mile in 8:50, but kept it up through mile 2 and started to suffer a little going uphill the last mile. Sprinted the last 10th to make up some time and finished 14th in the clydes class.
YAY MR RYDE!!! Way to go out and get it!!!
:yourock: :yourock:
back to back after work runs and two totally different experiences... reason one -- facking shoes... not liking the new ones, at least not for the hills... screaming calves, screaming shins... figured out the faster I went, the less it hurt so wound up sprinting and walking alternately... not my kind of run! Switched back to the old ones for last night and enjoyed the hell out of running w/a friend who knows that he can talk but not expect me to, and who runs my ridiculously slow pace w/out making me feel like I'm dragging ass... Last night's definitely took the sting out of Monday night's disaster!
One of my all-time favorite training runs has become a race put on by some of my old littermates. Can't turn this down, guess I'll be a racing again!

I finally understand the non-monty python chomping rodent!!
^^^Want one of those tee shirts? Now that I'm so fat my old ones are a bit on the tight side.
I'm over my fear of the chomping rabbit.
I won the lottery! ;)
NYC HALF Marathon on August 5th. Hopefully my luck holds up for the full marathon. Lottery is in June.
Cool thing about the half - - running right down Times Square.
Running the Vermont City Marathon this Sunday. The forecast is calling for rain and possible thunder storms. Running in a thunder storm has got to be good for my time, right?
lighting is actually one of the few good weather-related reasons not to run. hurricanes & tornadoes are also on that list.
don't eff around with lighting..
