I like the Lowlands myself. For $20.00/bottle, it is a steal.

Ugh. Scotch=nasty. Real men drink Malibu Bay Breezes.
For Canucks, the cheapest place, by far, to buy Scotch is at the Duty Free Americas shops. Coming back from a weekend trip to Seattle, I recently picked up 1L bottles of Ardberg and Dalwhinnie for 40% less than what 0.75L bottles would have cost at a BC Liquor store.
The two 1.14 L Crowns for $35 deal is also hard to beat.
The catch is that Canadian residents have to be out of the country for 48 hours.
I had a bit of a shock last weekend. went to my favorite bar which usually has 120 bottles of Scotch, and they didn't have Lagavullan. WTF?
where do you order from, liv2ski?
Google search whiskey jong. No I am fuckin with you. Try: http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sk...-YahooProducts
Final price depends on shipping option.
i'm in calgary, but for the purpose of online liquor purchases it's just the same as vancouver :(

16 yr glenlivet nadurra cask strength is the greatest thing I have ever tasted. Worth every penny.

try either of the 2 above, i personally rate them above the nadurra, but it's all down to taste i suppose...
i just bought and cracked open this baby:

drunk posting to commence in 1 hour.
our dinner host last night was pouring himself some Johnny Blue and i felt it my obligation to not let him go down that road alone. Not a regular drinker of whisky or scotch- i couldnt let this pass by. I drank it before dinner, with my salad, dinner, and desert. When our host moved on to Frangelica, i followed up with a Johhny Blue. At one point my entire body felt like it was a glowing coal.....exceptionally smooth.
I'd like to add that his home is at Stratton.....of course
Thanks for the bump, very informative thread.
The last three bottles in our house have been an Abelour A'Bunadh, The Maclallan and now a Laphroig quarter cask - all delicious!
robbie burns day was celebrated wed night with all the good brands ,haggis, scotch eggs and adressing the haggis /reading of RB poetry
needless to say ... no skiing on thursday
I have at least 50 J D Items ;at least 27 shot glasses ,bottle of 90 proof,dice,cards,tins,underwear,pool stick,steins,wall hangings,and past Hangovers!
Ardbeg Supernova (18 years or maybe it was a 20). Whatever, it's pure liquid gold.
I'm entering this thread on the back end. My favorite for a number of years has been Oban. It's what we buy on almost every ski trip.
Speyside - Tamnavulin
Islay - Bruichladdich
One of the best at that price, IMHO. I haven't had the 21 yo, but I hear it's excellent too. The 15 year old is my current favorite scotch, period.

Attachment 108989. Ahhh Sunday evening, cheers scotch lovers
Attachment 108996..cheers!
Having good scotch is even more important in a low snow year.
stratton-my people!
our host said he typically offers his guests a choice of single malt or a blend, leaving out the part about the blend being blue label. Hos gambit usually works. I handed my red wine to Lori when I saw him refilling his glass with blue, and joined him.
Just putting my tally with Balvenie, with the Caribbean Cask as my favorite; "is aged in traditional whisky barrels for 14 years, then transferred to rum barrels to finish. Rich, sweet and creamy toffee on the nose with rounded vanilla and sweet oak notes and a soft and lingering finish."
So damn good. I wasn't an enjoyer of scotch until I bought this for my scotch loving friend's birthday last year. This made me enjoy scotch.
First thread on here I've felt compelled to make a username and comment on:
Lagavulin is my go to for sure as my pallet trends toward extreme smoke, with much of the Ardbeg line in a close second. I tried Ardbeg's Alligator at a tasting a few months back and like it about as much as the Laga if you can afford to swing the price (~$100).
For those of you who enjoy Islay but not necesarilly the Islay prices; look for a bottle of Islay Mist. Pretty good taste for $20ish. I was pretty shocked at how good it was for a pricepoint scotch.
Had some Balvenie 15 this weekend and it was stellar. Anybody got suggestions for something similar, but much less expensive? I'm not expecting equal quality, but something similarly un-peaty and smooth would be nice.
Oban 1996 Distiller Edition... holy shit... my favorite ever... tops my usual favorites Oban 14 and Glenlivet French Oak 15
Glenlivet Nadurra is quite awesome.
Decided I liked the Ardbeg more than the Lagavulin and Laphroig for an Islay bottle
Aberlour Abunda completely underwhelmed me; I didn't like it at all.
My dad's 70th Birthday is in a few weeks and I wanted to get him a really nice bottle of scotch. He drinks expensive single malts regularly is there anything that is blow your mind good that I can get him. My budget is around $300
What will blow his mind is you drinking it with him.
For a lower priced decent bottle, I typically go for Bowmore Legend or Laphroaig. I also love Ardbeg and Lagavulin when the funds are in line. The peater the better in my mind.
I can't stop buying Laphroaig quarter cask. The stuff is so good. I really want to try the 18 year next
Dalmore 12 and 18 here. I think you're missing out if you haven't tried it.
