I'm gonna go with our tastes differing WAY too much considering your regard for horror movies I enjoy and how you regard The Innkeepers which I thought was absolutely horrid (I actually IMDB'd the actors in the movie to see if they were even accredited and not randomly pulled off the street for a 2-day shoot).
It's all good.
I found The Innkeepers to be a nice, moody film in the vein of Shirley Jackson's classic The Haunting. But that's just my humble opinion. I dug Ti West's previous flick, The House of the Devil, too (though the rest of his output is suspect).
I'm a bit all over the map when it comes to films in general, and genre films in particular.
Again, to each their own, but I do appreciate all the suggestions and recommendations and enjoy checking them out, even if eventually I don't like 'em (though you never know).

you did steer me into Triangle, which is easily one of the best low-budget mindf@#k horror movies I've seen in the past several years. So you never know...

Better without trailers. And speaking of MMT, very underrated and caught me by surprise... perfectly cast. As for No One Lives, looks like a January 2013 release. Recently watched The Skin I Live In.
While not billed as a horror film per se, it definitely has some horrific elements to it and comes off as a sly, subtle horror film with echoes of vintage body-horror era David Cronenberg and early Brian DePalma (think Sisters, Body Double, and the like). The film is something of a radical departure for writer/director Pedro Almodovar, too.
Also watched Silent House, the American remake of the Argentinean horror film La Casa Muda. It's filmed entirely in one single shot and in "real time", which is interesting. Not a bad little pot-boiler, if not entirely predictable. Still manages to garner a few chills, thrills, and spills, though. Intrigued to go back and watch the original.
Kind of excited to see Sinister....

Shooting to catch V/H/S this week (it's only playing in two theaters in the Bay Area and for 1 week only).
Recently watched:
Wake Wood - had potential from the trailers I'd seen, plus it has Aiden Gillen (he's been in The Wire and Game of Thrones) and Timothy Spall (a brilliant British character actor) in it. Ended up being nothing more that Pet Semetery in Ireland.
Primal - again, seemed like it had potential from the trailers I'd seen: group of anthropologists travel to some remote jungle and encounter primal evil. Again, rather predictable and not terribly engaging.
They were both on TV (either Chiller or SyFy) and would only be worth a gander if nothing else was on or you were seriously starved for a horror flick. I wouldn't bother spending any coin streaming or renting them, though.
v/h/s is good, but far from great.
three of the stories were a lot of fun, other three kinda weak.
and yeah i'm officially burnt on 'found footage'.

the whole "found footage" craze, which supposedly started way, way back in the '80s with Cannibal Holocaust, probably won't wane anytime soon. The major factor in it's continuation is that it is dirt cheap to make a found footage film and the returns have got to be fantastic, otherwise folks wouldn't keep mining what is essentially a dead horse. To me, the worst part is the over-saturation of the genre, which makes it harder and harder to locate the really good, creative "found footage" films (i.e. you have to watch/wade through a lot of sh!t in order to find the odd gem).
i liked 'Blair Witch Project', Cloverfield, The Troll Hunter among others, so i don't dislike the genre. it's more like you said, harder to find the goods. just like Alta these days!
FWIW - Serbian Film did an excellent job with found footage. Fucked up, but still well done.

I didn't much cotton to his first film, The Roost. Didn't see his second film, Trigger Man (because I didn't really like his first film). Also found his sequel to Cabin Fever to be quite lacking. I recall going into House of the Devil with much trepidation and exiting quite surprised. I had fairly high expectations for The Innkeepers and the film did not disappoint. Both were incredibly visceral and definitely skated the thin ice between exploitation and just nastyness, but I never felt they were as gruesome or unspeakable as some of the reviews made them out to be. Frankly, I've all but forgotten I Spit On Your Grave, but there's still one scene from LHotL that I can't seem to shake, which I guess qualifies as being something that you can't unwatch.
Pappa G has recommended a number of films to me which I have yet been unable to bring myself to watch and not sure if I will muster up the courage to do so soon (specifically A Serbian Film). And I still don't have any plans to watch Faces of Death.

I liked [REC] and [REC]2 was pretty decent. I'm actually looking forward to [REC]: Genesis.
Also, I felt Quarantine was solid, easily one of the best Americanized versions of a foreign horror film to date.
That said, avoid Quarantine 2. It's a crappy direct-to-video.
Let Me In or Let the Right One In (US vs Sweden) is one of the best horror films of the last 10 years.

The overall storyline is a bit sick-and-twisted, too, recalling some of the exploitive horror films of the '70s (I Spit On Your Grave, etc.).
To this point, in many ways it reminded me of Wes Craven's original 1972 version of Last House on the Left and even more so Roger Ebert's review of that film (http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/la...-the-left-1972). While not particularly in the league of that film, Dead Girl contains many familiar elements, but ultimately ends up being a little more perverse.
It also touches upon some of the same misogynistic themes that The Woman did, but again in a more twisted manner.
It's not so stomach churning in terms of visuals, but more in terms of the story elements themselves.
In the end it becomes one of those films that makes you wonder what kind of folks come up with stories like this and what kind of folks will sit through a film like this: it's one that you want to turn off, but keep watching anyway.
Again, not terribly gory, but the story is severely (and perversely) twisted.

Recently bought and watched several of the classic Hammer vampire flicks starring C. Lee but also a couple of euro trash movies with some full frontal shots.

I rather enjoyed You're Next.
I've not been impressed with most of the sub-genre of "home invasion" films (with, perhaps, the exceptions of Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs and Wes Craven's original Last House on the Left), but for some reason You're Next just worked for me.
I wasn't so much surprised by anything in it, I just felt it had great pacing, the story contained a motive (too many of the newer home invasion films--The Strangers, Ils--have no motive, which I guess is supposed to make them more scary, but honestly it didn't), and the practical effects kicked ass. For me it was one of those films that followed all the cliches and they just clicked and felt fresh and alive as opposed to redundant. At first I hated all the characters, but then I began to enjoy their annoying traits. It felt very much like an '80s horror film filled with bad actors, and that homage, which I'm pretty sure was intentional, just worked for me. I felt the film had lots of nice twists when it came to basic horror movie archetypes, such as the final girl and others, too.
Was rather surprised by Oculus.
From the trailers I expected it to be yet another riff on ho-hum and less-than-mediocre fare such as Mirrors and all the recent "possession" films, but it ended up being nothing like the trailer hinted at.
For much of the movie I had no idea what was going on as it flits between reality and imagination to the point of not being able to distinguish between the two.
Some of the acting was a little earnest, but the pacing and complete WTF is going on nature of the film kept me intrigued and eyes glued to the screen.

givin' a thumbs up to The Guest, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett's latest (the guys who directed/wrote You're Next). I'm really vibing on their grasp of '80s action thrillers and horror films, from the storylines, to the characters, and music. Lottsa Halloween (amongst others) references, too.
Just saw Wolf Creek 2 the other night, meh. While it did have some decent tension throughout it seriously lacked the grittiness, suspense & true terror of the first one. And the awful pre-Jurassic Park CGI kangaroos just ruined the film completely.
Been on a mission to watch all the older 70's-80's movies whose VHS covers seen on the shelf of the rental store but was never allowed to watch that haunted my dreams as a kid. Some really good ones i've seen lately have been: Xtro, Curtains, Night of the Creeps & The Changeling (The George C Scott one, not to be confused with the Angelina Jolie one which was good in it's own right.) Pretty much all the haunting genre movies of recent years owe a huge debt to this one and not many are nearly as good IMHO.
