It's times like the one in the picture below that I often say, "It's all about the dogs".
Nice training day.

I used to be a "Just a Dog"-person but my two Siberians have changed all that.
Got both of the on pet insurance to ease the financial blow of any medical costs. If you don't have it for your pet, please look into it today...
I used to be a "it's not just a dog" person. My current dog is just a dog. Half the time, I'm ready to punt it off the deck.
Three weeks ago we had a puppy dumped off at our office. The first sign that he was here was him sleeping under my desk, so I figured he was making himself to home and I should first see if he was lost, looking for his people or otherwise mislocated.
One of my close friends said, "He found his people."
When I was reading this thread, I stumbled on this post and thought, OMG, THAT is a grown up version of the puppy that was dumped off here.
Meet Jester, the new addition to my family and Marker extraordinaire(yes he tends to piss everywhere)!!

We found out that he loves corn on the cob!

How is it that someone who is not looking to adopt a pet can be so overwhelmed by the love of a dog in an instant?

RIP Robie. Good dog.
The sacrifices I have made for my dogs are of no consequence, because it means I get to see them every day. I've found that people who don't have "just a dog" lose a lot of credibility when they give me advice on what to do with my life. It's not that they don't mean well, they just don't understand I'm happy to put my girls first when I'm deciding where to move and other life changes. I figure anywhere I live will be OK as long as I come home to my aussie/border mix. She watches me leave for work out the window, and gives me kisses when I come home. In my opinion, it's totally worth it.

My best friend has really slowed down over the last few months. I took him to the vet today to see what was up and was told he has a inlarged heart which in turn has created a fairly advanced heart murmer. Fuck. Anyways, I am taking him to have his heart ultrasounded tomorrow to see what the specialist says our options are to keep him comfortable for as long as possible.
I am kind of in denial at the moment. I just can't believe the end of our time together will be here sooner than later. Good news is I know what is up with him, so I can love him even more, every day we have left together.
"Just a dog"
That is all I need to know about that person.............................:fuckyou:
snowhot, that's a great looking pup you've got. i love the black and tan markings.
liv2ski, my thoughts are with you. this is not an easy time, but you may find good news. dogs are strong and amazing animals and continue to surprise us.
vibes, liv2ski... Give him your best. I'm sure you will.
Jester has been suffering from some long term side effects of being hit by a car when he was a puppy.
He had(has) a broken leg in the growth plate of his tibia. The Fib is growing okay but the tibia can't keep up. Each time he has a growth spurt he seems to have issues, which he learns to deal with then he grows again and it has become a vicious cycle.
The good news is that he doesn't let it get him down.
I'm hoping that he'll stop growing long enough for the leg to catch up, because he loves the snow and would be a great ski buddy.
He Loves the snow!

My dog Mickey reminded me why dogs are so cool yesterday. She is a black lab with one missing front leg and when she walks/runs it's takes serious effort on her part. She lunges/hops and basically uses her core muscles to support her self. So yesterday we had basically blizzard conditions, high winds, etc. and I decided to let her get out and enjoy it. We went out for a while and every time I would turn around to go home, she would dig into the snow and not budge. It was like she had some internal compass that knew I was headed back. Not only is she missing that leg but she's also 11.5 years old. She literally would've stayed out all day.
^^^a snow day with your best friend. i wouldn't want to go back home either.
I feel for you mang, i am going through something similar with my ol' boy, my best friend since 2000-his brain and his front end works, his hind end, barely on a good day. I am beyond on borrowed time with him, so much so I had to give him the best present I possibly could after all the years and gifts he has given me-I had to leave him at my folks when I moved back to AK. Yes he has the BEST doggie retirement home possible, however, the chance of me seeing my best friend again are very slim. Give your best friend a big ol hug, an extra treat and a few extra scratches, you never know when it only be a memory you are feeling, not the cold nuzzle of their wet nose's. Good luck and best wishes!!!
Sidewall, its pretty good stoke when you have a dog that love being outside in the snow as much as you do, eh?
Even with Jester's issues with his leg, he loves it outside. Its amazing how these incredible dogs don't let physical issues get them down.
Doooood, you're killing me. Made tears well up in my eyes thinking about my pup. Every time I leave my parents' place I always give extra extra love to my boy Buck. His hind quarters are failing, and he's slowed way down. He's 13 or 14, so every time I see him I realize it could be the last.
Much love to the dogs who bring so much peace and joy to their people!

Poor guy - hope he heals quick!
I am in DC for interviews for a week and 1/2 and dog is back in Jackson with friends. I know he is having a blast and I can't believe how much I miss him. Counting down the days until I am back.
Dogs rock.
Sympathies and empathy to live and dk and all others with hurtin critters.
I love my dog (Daisy) and my cat(Sparky). I know many people hate cats but I think they are cool too. My cat is cool. He tries to kill everything smaller than him, and practices killing the dog. He is very affectionate but he'll scratch the shit out of you if you fuck with him. Daisy is a fat stinky cocker spaniel and a damn good dog.
I'm too broke to afford four digit vet bills, but I'd do much for my animals.
This may sound nuts but I appreciate the honesty of animals. I frequently prefer their company to that of any human.
Platinum Pete, your little buddy looks so sad. :(
Hope he heals well.
Muleskinner, I know what you mean about missing your dog. The last three ski trips I went on alone, I missed my dog more than my husband. :)
Moved this here hope Op doesn't mind brutally tough but a big part of being a dog owner
and a bump for sasha passing over the rainbow bridge
glad Hook is partially replacing the loss.
You can the toughest guy on earth, but when you put your best friend down, you will cry like a baby. Been there too many times...and will do it again.....for the love of dogs.
The dog my girlfriend and I have may not what many people think is a 'cool' dog. He is just an 10 month old fully grown 11lbs mini dachshund, but he is the happiest little guy in the world. Every time I come home from work or wherever he acts like it is the greatest thing to ever happen.
I've fostered a couple of dogs that people have dropped off on my farm and then found great homes for them. The last one, Disco, just won 1st place in the "rescue" class at a dog show. I live in S.C. now and it is so disgusting how many (unfixed) strays are in my county. People suck sometimes but I am happy to see all the animal love here.
The day I put one of my horses down last year (due to chronic injury) was by far the worst day of my life. He had the biggest heart and was very young. I pretty much lost my marriage over that animal. oh well, the horse was worth it (sorry ex). I have 2 more horses, ages 22 and 25. One has been in my life for over 18 years and he is amazing.
Great doggie stoke thread....
Cody getting big air in Ogden, UT!
P.S. MUST READ!!!
The Art of Racing in the Rain
Best dog book (sorry but it's way better than Marley & Me)
Neighbor's dog just died while I was over there speaking with him. Simply threw up and then died. Tragic. He was a great old Golden soul. RIP BJ.
fuck dude, that is super harsh. Any idea what happened? They doing a necropsy?
Really not sure but I am guessing a heart attack. I am not sure if they are going to look too deeply into it. He was waging his tail and walking around the yard one second, and the next he was down. My neighbors are great friends and the wife has been going through some tough shit lately, so this really sucked. It was almost surreal. BJ was your consummate golden. Total lover.
I just started my buddy on heparin injections three times a day. He's got a bad blood clot in his legs. This guy's been through hell the last few years and he just keeps going. He's been with me through some serious shit and I owe him everything. Friends and coworkers have mostly learned by now to avoid any suggestio that a dog's not worth it. There's always going to be one or two though, and for some reason they usually mouth off in front of a larger group. I almost always look them right in the eye and tell them I feel exactly the same way about their kids and parents. Dead Pan.
Wow, that sucks!
Given the symptoms and what my old guy went through before he passed I'd have to agree with the heart attack diagnosis. The vet said that for some reason vomiting is very common when they start having heart problems. My guy had thrown up several times when I found him. He also said that heart issues tend to come on really suddenly. The dog will look fine one minute and be down the next.
Vibes to your friend.
