So is this
edit 1: the prevailing theory in another thread is that it's the forum not playing well with iOS
edit 2: the edit function only works on my phone. Tried all the browsers on my laptop, and just get the spinning wheel.

I see that fine on my android phone and Macbook.
Sooo. How hard is it to set up and maintain a web forum? No in house experts?
vBulletin has been around for years. Any idea what is costs to run? Already several people offering $.
I'm on some way less trafficked forums but they seem to manage.
A geezer forum on Newschoolers would be interesting. The big bodybuilding forum had a over 45 forum that seemed to be popular- I think it's good for the generations to hang a bit closer sometimes. But moving away should be a last resort.
ChatGPT says it only costs a hundred a month to host something like this- but that's without all the customizations or actual staff that has better things to do. You can get an estimate with AWS immediately if you know the requirements. Then all you need is someone(s) to take on pro bono bug fixes and bitching to AWS instead of moderating slapfights between grown men as their hobby.
I keep thinking about taking on the hosting and then realize I'd just ban everyone that slapfights so there would only be about half of us remaining.
well fuck you and your coke boycott!!!
Looks like my comment about the emojies was not clear: it's the TGR app (from ios?) posts that have them, they're just connected to a tapatalk url.
Ah gotcha. That thing never worked well for me I don’t think its available and definitely not supported anymore. Not sure what the issue is just using the desktop site on mobile.
My edit and quote buttons don’t work on any of my devices. For better or worse, they’re all apple.

502 Bad Gateway, is what I got when I clicked on beaterdit's post from the new posts page. I was checking in here to see if there has been any updates, and wanted to get subscribed to the thread.
I am running windows 10 home, and discovered the inability to post pictures after catching a couple of nice trout in frigid temperatures. The screen turns color to gray over the page and freezes.
May the crack tech squad be inspired and capable in fixing this latest breakdown. Amen.
I mean, that’d be a whole lot better than the place just going dark one day. If you’re willing and able, sure seems like they need someone to do it. Seems like there are a lot of people willing to throw down some cash to keep this place alive.Quote:

JK I’d pay more for sure.
supposedly, the vbulletin expert is looking at the issues.
Dan is TGR’s plan to keep this place going in perpetuity? Is there talk of letting it go? Do they even know we’re still here?
TBH, I have no idea what their plans are; they certainly know we're still here because I am pretty sure the IT stuff is outsourced (i.e. I assume they receive a bill for the work done here).
Thanks for the response Danno.
Has anyone considered selling health insurance to fund this place?
Or a meme coin
Timberridge came up with a bunch of great NFT ideas for this place, even one of a train!
Not sure if they ever sold or not.
So that’s what happened to him, livin’ the meme coin highlife. Baller!
Someone start a 37$ GoFundMe. I've already got one for the beaver summit.
Let's raise 3-5k and venmo it to todd. Show of appreciation.

Whoa, quote worked?!
Dan do you think you could facilitate some sort of conversation? To the effect of, lots of people value this place and would be willing to help keep the lights on. What is the structure of running this place, what do they need, and where can we direct said help. Appreciate what you do here but also surprised the extent of your knowledge of the operation is "Pretty sure the IT stuff is outsourced."
Hopefully it is a new vbulletin expert.Quote:

Lol

I plan to try something like that in the near future. But I know babybear tried to start a conversation along similar lines a few years back and got nowhere. So I'm not super optimistic.Quote:

Awesome thanks and please keep us posted!
Also LOL @PNWBrit.
I did a half hour overvtand seems pretty manageable for me to start a new forum. That would definitely not include porting over old data.
Kicker is, I don't have the time to navigate the legal complexities of hosting nsfw images so if that kills the deal let me know.
If you want me to take a dump in a gold coated box and mark it $DookieCoin, I could, I got time.
Adds going away is nice, but yeah, probably not a good sign. Will be bummed when it ends.
I wonder what ever happened to all the threads they copied to archive on Epic and if they are still available. I was never on there really but they put a ton of effort into saving what they could but I don’t know if the effort resulted in anything usable. I’d hope they gave them to pugski and he was able to import them but idk.
^ I mothballed a (much smaller) forum website a couple years ago and my provider saved everything for me. I’ve never looked at the data, but they told me I could recreate with the data the site if I wanted to.
Just sayin’
Even if they get it running again, is it already dead? The traffic right now feels like less than it is in the summer, there just aren't many of us left.
I would pay $4.20 a month subscription to keep this place going if it meant they gave IT support, and ideally migrated to another forum platform that was more stable.
I just want to be able to post pictures and make posts without the death emojis.
It has been a nice break away from TGR. I still enjoy the folks here and a lot of the content and if the site regains functionality I will continue to visit and this is not to bag on TGR.
TGR is estimated to make 7.5 million a year with a net of around 1 million.
Lonely Planet Purchases Teton Gravity Research (2015)
After Lonely Planet's new owner hired a 25-year-old neophyte to helm the famed but flailing guidebooks brand, it was anyone’s guess as to which direction it would go. But new clues to the company's future may be found in this startling acquisition.
Houghton’s latest interesting move, announced Wednesday, is the purchase of a major stake in Teton Gravity Research, the action sports media company based in Jackson, Wyoming, best known for its award-winning ski porn. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but TGR founders Steve and Todd Jones will reportedly maintain their ownership interest. Last time we spoke, Houghton made it clear he wanted video to be part of the new Lonely Planet formula. Now, this purchase marks the biggest manifestation of that to date.
(2020) Red Ventures, an owner of digital businesses, has acquired Lonely Planet, a leading global travel media company, from NC2 Media.
The companies didn't disclose the deal terms. Skift's "back-of-the-envelope" estimate is the deal is in the $50 million range, likely all cash. A banker Skift spoke with said that Lonely Planet was a "pretty distressed sale."
According to recent reports, Red Ventures is currently valued at approximately $11 billion.
Someone within that PE structure can afford to maintain this website "IF" they have any interest in continuing to do so.
Still can't edit. Later taters.
^Uh oh.
I’m not a fan of the results of PE acquisition - I’ve seen some nice things cratering after PE gets its hands on them.Quote:

Caveat/admission: I’m not really a very informed person about PE firms and their effects, but what I’ve noticed hasn’t been reassuring or encouraging.
