Boreal is opening this Friday, 11/17.
And get this: $25 lift tix.
Now that’s how you do an opening day when you only have limited terrain WROD action in effect…
That said, their tix go up to $84 on Saturday…
that’ll be super fun in the rain
From what I have seen from the freeway, Boreal has some base down only on the west side of the Castle Peak Chair, which will likely have a half dozen features with just as many people walking uphill as skiing downhill. For most of us, Rose or Mammoth offers something better...plus Rose might be above the rain line.

For your viewing pleasure. If you were there (me) you'll appreciate this, if you weren't there you'll appreciate it as well. Saw my old boss from ski school who's now in upper mngmnt and asked him what the skier/rider #'s were. On Saturday 5500 passes were scanned, Sunday was 4700. That's to ski 2 runs.
^^ wow! Hard pass.
Coming to the Art Haus in January…

Mammoth videos remind me of my youthful days running human slalom courses weekends at good ole Hunter mtn.
Went up to Rose late in the afternoon on Tuesday.
By then the light was getting dim and the snow was skied off with lots of slick spots.

But after skiing Mammoth this weekend, having the run to myself was awesome.

Not a sole in sight.

A nice relaxing afternoon ski.
They did an open casting call for extras last season. Paid, if I recall correctly.
Can’t remember why I didn’t go and kinda regretting it now…
I believe it’s opening January 5th.
Also, quite a few other ski films screening at the Art Haus between then:

No surprise. Heavenly delayed opening day.
At this point the storm is overperforming at least in terms of snow levels. looks like a sleeper pow day at almost all the resorts tomorrow. ;-)
Same this arvo. Even Cinders had fun under the flat light, and she hates poor viz.
Sun came out for a wee while, but at end of day, got some small "gritty" hail up high. Had a few flakes mixed in with it by last run.
Light rain, heavy at times, on way home.

It looks like ricky is moving back to kirkwood to run the show. Great guy!
Went for a drive today. Then a walk. Had to turn around at round top lake to make it back to work, but things are good out there

yes the entire ski down would have been unsuitable for most, and solo I was a bit skared to go fast.
I don't know wtf NOAA did with the remote data on the website, but I don't like it one bit.
It's all farked up in the new version for sure. Overlapping columns is a bad look.
Use this link to still get the old version:

good news!
Homewood is staying public. And they’re adding a gondola and mid mountain lodge.

This is a nice site to see what the weather stations are doing. Can get to each weather stations data tables easily. It also has hazards and radar layers.

“We have to adapt,” says John Rice, general manager of Sierra-at-Tahoe for the past 30 years. “We have a whole new landscape.”

I think the real action got kicked down the road closer to the Dec 5th or so, but there is some good things going on so far. But so far this year, storms have had a tough time getting past the cutoff low season.
TLC to mid mountain opens tomorrow.
Fingers crossed for the forecast toward the end of next week. We need that first big storm to break through.
On the upside, I'm way ahead of my normal chores for winter. Very little is getting abandoned and buried this year.
Off to Boreal with my minions today. Kiddos are dying to ski.
TLC today was not as bad as expected. I put in 7 laps before the line got long. It's a narrow WROD and all off piste terrain is marked closed...or should be. Still, it was lift served skiing at my home mountain.
You shut yer dirty hoar mouth. the off piste is bomber, and loud
