Dec 22 today and cloudy-literally the darkest day of the year.
Peeps will be able to find snow next week, maybe that’ll brighten the mood, the bottom half of the mountain is gonna get washed away, mandatory download during the holidays gonna be gnarly.

There's two in the "region" using the term loosely. Also @Bennymac the one N of Hope and just E of Boston Bar can be accessed also from the Sowakum turnoff. I haven't explored there.
There's another in Juliet Creek just E of the Zoa drainage at Coquihalla Summit. It's a bit of a dry zone.
Also currently not terrible. Decent in a 300m band with FL at about 1600m. Cooling down too

Pow day. Good times today above bottom of Emerald!

Found it. It's a Barrick Gold proposal. Article from 2017 and its W of Boston Bar.
And here's another one that's quite recent and very preliminary by the Spuzzum FN for an area accessed from Hwy 1 via a long road to the back side (W side) of the Ottomite and Great Bear Coquihalla drainage

The Valemont project looks amazing, based solely on the lift alignments and the terrain it would access.
Cool little town with great biking too.
Unfortunately it seems to be in the category of unfunded pipe dreams.
The local FN are on board, which is something I guess. But a decade later and still nothing happening.
Just putting in the phase 1 1st gondola would be a pretty awesome ski area let alone the lifts in the alpine.
Forecast starting to look a bit colder, but less precip, although snow-forecast has a big dump on Monday.
If there's a silver lining to the snow situation it could be for later in the season. It could be much less crowded than it typically is because many people will have cancelled their trips. I try to look at the glass half full :)
edit: saw skiers on the peak webcam today. Was today the first day for Peak?
What are conditions like in Flute? Worth bringing skins and hitting it, or is it marginal coverage and tracked out?

Lots of tracks out there now, this ⬆️ was from Cowboy today.
Dunno what was up w Harmony today, didn’t open till 10:15.
Clownshoe?
Was open yesterday, weekend before Xmas, been opening late all week.
Really hope they can get back to 9 on non pow days, lots of eager peeps wanting to get outta the ski area, but when it get dark at 430 and ya can’t start skiinning till 1030 makes for a short day.
Horrid conditions on piste below 1500m
Long download line at mid

They were throwing bombs in flute this morning. They prefer to not open harmony until the bombing is done because people are unwilling to abide by avalanche closures.
Bridal Veil Mountain Resort, near Chilliwack, might be the development people are thinking about.

that's the one lacking FN support....whom are in support of a competing sightseeing gondola proposal https://cascadeskyline.com/
Resort alpine improved today? Saw some vids of Flute the other day that looked fairly filled in, like typical late Nov early Dec kinda coverage.

yikes
This should be discussed in the slide zone. Apex irresponsible content IMHO. Dude posting this as a lesson in calculated risk is fucking insane.

This is all IMO and having skied that line numerous times
I'm glad he posted it.
We can agree or disagree about his plan. We can agree or disagree about the risk tolerance. But he had a plan and executed it.
As for the two cents.
- that safe zone is pretty far below him (perhaps 15m+).
- that's a large terrain trap
- that was a lot of wind the day before.
- there's quite a few other choices on Disease not as exposed
On that basis my plan would have been to not ski that line but that's my personal call based on my personal risk tolerance.
I am also glad he posted it. Also agree that he had 'plan' and executed it.
Where I disagree is his attitude that even with his valuable ex-post knowledge (i.e. slope gave way with 5-ft crown, propagated for hundred feet), he would've done it again. IMO, that shows extreme hubris.. overconfidence in one's abilities/judgment/skill/'plan' and lack of respect for the mountain & conditions.
Everyone makes mistakes, nothing against him on that. Failure to recognize (much less learn) from your mistake, which could take your life next time? That is insane.
I think, from watching the video several times, that asshat didn't suspect in advance it was going to slide. His buddy that was filming alerted him to the slide and told him where to go.
He knew afterwards he had incredible footage and needed to concoct a story so he could share it without looking like a total idiot.
Instead, he just looks like an arrogant stupid ass.
7th just opened
^^^^Kmk.....You nailed it. Buddy should have admitted that he was very, very, very lucky and this is a dangerous unpredictable spot that people should take extreme caution around, instead of making it look like anyone can do this. In other words he would benefit more by discouraging others and getting them to not ski his line in the future.
3 laps on Disease today couple down the ridge proper, one down the face, wasn’t moving-let those doing a course sort out the cornice first. Another 3 in the Chuting gallery, first face shots of the season!!
Got 7th open today, great snow down to treeline, patrol not letting anyone down the N side/Sudan cause of the open glacier.
Whistler alpine open too
Looks like schmoo tomorrow
