Dang. And I was pretty stoked about getting it on the first guess.
I told my wife and she hadn't done the puzzle yet and now she's pissed. So apparently I'm not a genius.

Nice guessing, old goat. I had an easy day, too:
Wordle 319 2/6
Does everyone have a standard opening pair of words? Or are you varying your openings?
After using wordle bot a few times to see how it’s all working, it seems clear there’s a limit to the strategeries and ultimately timely guessing is the difference between low & high scores
I switch it up but how can you have a pair of words? The results from the first one dictate the second guess, no?
Well, there is what's called "Hard Mode" where you have to use the information that is given to you in every subsequent guess. You can always guess different words along the way. So, for example, if I'm going into guess five missing one letter, and there are three or four options, sometimes I will pick a word that has those letters in it to narrow it down for guess six. On hard mode that's not allowed.
The pair I’m referring to is the opener and then a second word that uses entirely different letters so that you have an aggregate best attempt at understanding the letters involved in the winning solution.
I made the assumption everyone is doing that as their opening strategy.
[obviously, if you nail things in the first, then maybe the second is your solution…]
I haven’t tried hard mode yet; sounds closer to the essence of things; thx for the explanation
I just put a word and work with whatever pops up. If nothing is right then I'll use a word with no letters in common with the first one. I'm not exactly bringing any strategery to it.
Yeah, I have sort of been defacto playing hard mode on Wordle recently, mostly because I'm trying to get 2's and 3's to beat my wife's score every day. I play some of the other ones like Quordle and Octordle, and on those I have a three word combo I use with to get started with, otherwise it's too complicated for me to figure out.
We're soul-wordle-brothers I guess. I read that "adieu" is one of the best first words, and so I used that for a while but it got too boring so now I just put whatever comes to mind.
Yeah, just pick a word with a couple vowels and commonly used consonants and go with it. There are plenty to choose from.
I rotate through 3 or 4 starting words and generally do Hard Mode unofficially. Occasionally I'll mix in totally different words. Got it in 2 today and blew my kids mind.
ROATE
STARE/RATES
SNARE
ADIEU
Are the ones I usually go through.
I start with SLOTH and if I have 0 hits I go with CRANE cause I'm into critter names.
If I get hits with sloth I recycle the letters into different positions with a new word. I'll very rarely go with a word that doesn't use already guessed letters unless I'm really stumped.
Today was also a 2 for me, had a few of these, mostly 3 and 4s. The occasional 6 to keep me on my toes.
on the quordle I start with audio and meaty, no guessing which words have which vowels from that point

first word, every time....
FARTS
SLATE
ROBIN
CHUMP
WEDGY
SKIER
two common consonants, check
two vowels, check
plus SKIER
Then I use the iceman method and just roll with whatever I got or didn't get. Usually GHOUL if I got nothing. BONER if the ER was in the right place.
CRANE
ADIEU
CRATE
SPORT
I basically rotate between those.
"Stair" worked pretty well today, I may recycle it tomorrow.
I’ve been using IRATE for awhile and just switched to STERN the last couple of days. Whole new game
Got my first 1 guess answer today. Might have to quit and go out on top.
Ive been using URINE
AEROS
there is more than one person leading with 'train'? WTF.
Tomorrow I will open with
PLAID

"Roast" worked out well for me today.
Impressed they could fit “TahoeJ” onto the wordle board…
lol
How are "hoser" and "homer" in the word list?
Ew wordle you nasty!

Been sticking with "stare" as the opener for a while now.
I'm not a fan of these ones where you can be one letter off and it's still a word so it's just guessing, like "bloom" and "gloom" where you already have the "loom". There was one a couple days ago where I went three lines just changing the one letter, I'm blanking on what it was right now but whatever., I could have had it on the 3rd line if I was lucky but ended up on the 5th.
I think it was discussed somewhere up there ^^ but say you get a couple letters gold on the opener, what about guessing a word that doesn't have those letters so you knock more letters out? Not sure I'm explaining this well but say I start with "stare" and the "t" and the "a" go gold.
If you guess a word that doesn't use those two letters, is that legit? Like say "pound", with no letters in common with "stare" but it gets two more vowels and and three more consonants in play? Feels un-legit but I dunno. It also doesn't get you any closer to knowing where the "t" and the "a" belong, so there's a downside to it too.
My strategy is that the first two words are just feelers using popular letters & exhausting the vowels if I can.
If you get something to stick on the first word, great, go with it, but otherwise narrow the field aggressively
Huh. I've kinda felt that if I get letters on the opener I have to use them on the next (and subsequent) guesses.
What does Deep Throat Mafia do in the Summer, without the thrill of ripping the blue squares?

feels better when you get it off your chest no?
