New Foot Scanner App

Super interesting app. I just posted this comment in another thread: "I decided to go out on a limb and downsize my backlands/hawx to 26 to try and further reduce the forefoot volume. This is coming from a 27 backland carbon most recently, 28 alien RS before that (i measure a true 27.5). I had the 26 shells memory fit, and a big toe punch added on the hawx. On the first day in the backland, it still loosened a bit in the forefoot, so I decided to swap back in a protour liner with a supportive footbed. Feels like a good fit so far. I was using the same liner in the 27 backland, with the size reducer shim. Fit on the 26 w/o shim feels a lot like the 27 w/ shim. Overall, I'd say the downsize could be a good option for the low-volume crowd, but I still only have a few days on each boot."

The scanner definitely confirms how low my instep is, and why I always feel like I'm swimming in boots. I'm hopeful this sz 26 strategy works out for me. Love to hear if sticking with the 26 sounds like a good move, vs even more padding in 27s (which I have a used BL and a new hawxXTD

Thanks, Trogdor. 65-68mm isn't that low for a 26.5-27 foot, but with a 102.4 forefoot you could easily be in a 92-95 lasted boot (doesn't exist in touring-world, unfortunately).

Atomic Hawx Ultra XTD 120 - 26.5

I'm using high volume liners (ZipFit Tour or Dynafit Neo CR) plus a heel shim to take up volume.

Thinking I might try the xt3 in the standard widths.

I'll give this a go this weekend. You helped advise me a bit a couple years back when I was having issues finding a suitable touring boot. Apparently I have a unique foot.

This is pretty neat. I’ve always struggled finding low enough volume boots without going for a full on plug. Currently in a 25.5 Solly smax 130 with a power wrap for my hill boot. I don’t love the flex (a little too stiff off the top), but fit wise it’s pretty great. For a touring boot I’m in a 25.5 Solly MTN lab with power wrap, added toe buckle, and relocated instep buckle. It walks like shit now, and skis okay.

I wish I could get that smax shell fit in a touring boot that actually walks. Hawx Ultra 130?

I have a similar foot to you although maybe slightly higher volume and have used TLT6s (26.5) which fitted pretty well. I'm now using a Zero G Scout (25.5) which is slightly roomy with the stock liner but not too bad. Although I haven't been able to try a Hawx Ultra XTD in a 25 shell (the 26 was too long).

Looks like I may have the skinniest pair of feet in here...no wonder even my 28 Salomon xmax's (now the s/max) give me pain. Interesting cause my right foot is always worse, and its also the smaller foot (worse fit?). I've always struggled to find boots. Currently thinking my next pair of boots will need to be a commercial race boot of sorts. Any thoughts? Feel free to pm me how to upload this scan btw

Thanks. Good to note, as I will likely be in the market for new boots soon. Anyone have any other recommendations on a nice 130 flex plug boot or boot with a last to possibly fit my foot? Just looking for ideas before I head into a new boot fitter, as obviously, my current one isn't helping me.

A bit of weird differences with Fischer's app regarding instep height, but maybe as I'm twisting a bit my knees to take the photo it moves my ankles and lift a bit the instep. And with Fischer's as you're seated don't twist knees.

Btw, now I'm on 26.5 Tecnica 0G Guide Pro, before was on Cochise 26,5
In between I've tried Atomic Ultra XTD130 in 26,5, and sell it after 3 days, it crushed my feet on the instep, and also way too soft that I ended some days with cramps on my calfs, so returned to Tecnica for the 0G Guide pro and fitted well without any punch, only with a bit o heel lift.

The ZGTP will be similar than my actual 0G Guide?

Yes, almost identical in fit. Hawx Ultra XTD has a reasonably high instep (typical Atomic) but the very small cuff circumference pulls the instep transition much further back . . . looking at your scans, the very ovalized shape where the ankle cuts off shows your aren't a candidate for small cuff circumference shells.

Thought you might enjoy some outlier data. My feet are stupid.

They're the original "Carbon T.I.", from 2017 I believe. 98mm

For those who've had trouble with this app, they've released an update which is supposedly more crash resistant. It also is much easier to find the "X" (you don't actually have to see it and zero in) and align the two dots (you just have to get pretty close and hold still, not actually overlap them).

I got the app off the Google Play Store and when there is an official update it should appear on there and show as an update available. So will see if the Store shows the newer version available there (it is not appearing yet).

For those experiencing issues like myself with the state not loading and can’t proceed after receiving a code, no fix (at least for me)

Boot recommendation would be appreciated. My 28.5 Lange RX120 from 2012 are on their last runs. They are heavily punched and still cause a lot of pain on the instep and outside of foot.

Sweet App! My feet are fucked, appears I have a massive instep, narrow heel/toe - that would explain the 3 hours of bootfitting to get my XT LV 130s bearable.

Currently in the market for a 50/50 boot (my model XT was pre AT inserts), any recommendations based on these measurements?

I don't think the 100mm Lange RX is a bad recommendation - if they still are not wide enough, punch them more (or find another bootfitter) - 117mm is wide but my foot is also 117mm and I'm in a LV 26.5 (three pairs) . . . as for instep (worse on the left, I assume) it's a combination of thinner footbed, thinner bootboard, heat punch the instep area with some sort of wedge (depending on what the fitter has at their disposal), cutting out elastic and vinyl on liner, compressing tongue foam, etc.

Atomic Hawx Prime or Salomon S/Pro could also be a possibility.

Could you post left and right views of your foot as well?

Yeah, super tall instep esp. on the left. It's tough because your instep is not only high, but relatively far forward - this disqualifies the Hawx Ultra XTD. You also need a bootboard that is thick enough to grind - this disqualifies the Lange XT3. Dalbello is a possibility, though the narrow lasted boots (Pro HD, 130 C) have poor walk modes and weigh a ton and the Lupo AX 120 will fit like a boat if you are in a Lange LV now. Roxa R3 is a possibility, tallish instep and relatively light, not a great walk mode . . .

Could you also post screenshots from the left and directly from the front?

Thanks. So far you're tied for the most difficult instep out of 74 scans - very tall with no perceptible curve ahead of the ankle, super ovalize ankle where the image cuts off.

Hockey skates were a bitch to break in growing up, could only wear certain brands and ski boots have always been an adventure - any recs for a dedicated inbounds boot?

Its the right foot with the instep pressure. Probably from my foot being squeezed. Would you say the 28.5 is good or should I go 29.5?
I added a third picture to show the width behind my sixth to area that runs almost all the way to my heel.

Unfortunately I can't see the shape of your forefoot very well in these views (my commercial account lets me rotate to get a direct top view but you can't do it on your phone), but assuming you have a normal distribution of toe pressure at the front of the boot, have a good footbed, and good retention at the ankle, I would hold out for 28.5. The extra width running all the way back past the styloid process can be achieved by punching.

Not sure if its been said yet but Fischer also has an app for scanning feet. It only shows a 3d image of my left foot, but gives measurements for length, ball width, instep height, navicular height, and heel width for both feet.

slowroastin, my feet are similar in shape and I am happy in punched (by greg) hawx ultra xtd 28.5s. Probably going to add a set of alpine hawx in a season or 2 as well.

Not sure what the issue is - what version is your phone? I have heard reports of iPhone 7 and earlier problems, I had none with mine (new SE).

Interesting app - especially coming from someone who is mostly a climber, and has years and years of ramming my feet into odd-shaped contortionist shoes and finding by intuition that my left foot is about 5mm longer.

Alpine - 26.5 Hawx Prime 120s's with superfeets and I've not needed a punch on these.

Touring - Struggling. I've been jumping around trying to get heel hold without 6th toe or 5th met pain. I've got wide, but low volume and low instep feet.

Tried:
1. 28 Vulcans with intuition classic wraps (comfortable, but too long).
2. 27.5 Vulcans with stock liners (6th toe punch and met punch, good until the boots just died of old age).
3. 27.5 MTN Explores - great length and width, still felt like foot and ankle swimming.
4. 26.5 MTN Labs with 6th toe punch - good heel hold but I think for long tours my toe will take a bashing the end of the boot too much.
5. 26.5 Maestrale RS's; length feels ok but 5th met pain as soon as buckled (loose as I can get) and I still get heel lift.

Am I downsizing too much? 27.5 / 310+ bsl boots seem to leave me with like a 2cm shell fit.

I think 27.5 is the right call for a touring boot.

MTN boots have a cavernous ankle and heel pocket but a pointy toebox (a shape rarely found in feet). Vulcan/Mercury wasn't exactly snug either.

The app doesn't show ankle volume, but there is every chance one of the current boots like a Hawx Ultra XTD (same width as your Prime if you go 27.5) or Tecnica Zero G Tour Pro will work and fit your ankle/midfoot more accurately. Hoji Free would also be an improvement.

Finally got it to work. Weird though. When I get measured in shops my feet are a full size different. Here they are showing less different. Maybe I’ll try rescanning.

I’m in 26.5 Solly SMax 130s. They feel a bit too big on the right foot and are very very tight on the left. Very.
