1kg Boot thread

I’ve never had a problem with the cord, over a lot of miles. I’ve tied a little backup knot in case the cord slips through the clamp but has rarely been needed. I’m not too concerned about a field failure - the ski/walk lever will still work, and a voile strap or 2 will provide plenty of upper cuff support instead of the cord, transitions will be just a little slower.

main thing is to loctite the nut/bolt around which the walk ski lever pivots, and get a spare or 2 from the hardware store.

For sure! I always have two of the 18” xl voiles for power straps, and a handful of others for just in case.

since a boa failure that I didnt want to fix a few weeks ago, one of my boots has a voile strap threaded through the end of the walk ski lever, and when in ski mode i tighten it over my ankle/instep. the strap is lighter than the boa hardware i removed, when I’m less lazy Im gonna cut all boa stuff out of both boots and be full time voile

Added some Pulse Lab straps to the Fischer Travers CS this week. Tried one boot with the Pulse Lab strap engaged and the other boot without. Felt like it added another 10pts of forward flex stiffness or so.

For me, the Travers CS + TourWrap + foot bed + Pulse Lab straps is a great combo. Walks fine uphill for the Wasatch (where max ROM for flat approaches rarely applies) and drives 120mm underfoot skis downhill just fine too (even in the mix of pow and manmade snow today at Alta).

Anybody got some time on the F1 LT’s? I’m still looking, still hoping to make an upgrade from the TLT6’s. Evidently the F1 LT is the same lower as Alien RS, except for changes to the bootboard, any consensus on if it makes noticeable increase in width? Any other opinions on going with a pair of Aliens and work on the bootboard, or go for the slightly burlier F1 LT? I had Aliens briefly but couldn’t talk myself into working on the lowers for width. Maybe grinding the bootboard and some punches for width would make it work.
Aliens: tiny bit lighter, simpler, possibly narrower, gaiter bonding problem

F1 LT: stouter, more complicated transitions, possibly wider, improved gaiters

Winner? I can find the Aliens about $200 cheaper.

I haven't skied the Aliens, but I'm getting into a pair of F1 LTs in a week or two, from F1s. I'll let you know how it goes.

I’d like a light boot (in Lange free tour 130’s) that skis close to an alpine boot in that last bit is considerable lighter. Like not 3 ounces lighter but much lighter. I’ve tried tlt6, backland carbon and dynafit beast....they all kinda had faults (first 2 w low cuff height...feels so sketchy to me). Thoughts?

The dynafit beast is in the same category and weight band as the hawx 130 and zeroG. Imo these are both superior although who knows if they'll be what you want.

I mean... everybody is trying to make a 1kg boot that skis like a double overlap alpine boot. But it's apparently a very hard engineering problem because companies have thrown a lot of money at the issue and they haven't found the holy grail yet. So you can ski a 1kg boot with 100 flex, ish, or you can ski a 1500g boot that charges a lot harder but is half-again as heavy. Or points in between.

I feel like the points in between is kind of lacking, besides the ZGTP. But probably mostly comes down to the liner tbh.

I learned in another thread that the Hawx XTD 130 shells weigh basically the same as the ZGTP shells (~1200g) but they put a way heavier liner in. Just another option to consider

I'm still intrigued by the new Dalbello Quantum in this space as replacement for my old TLT5p that have held up remarkably well all these years.

GregL seems to like them but he's the only one I've read an actual user review from. Nowhere local to try and buy so hoping for more opinions before I plunk down full retail via online order.

It's probably either them or backland carbons for me this year i think.

I got a set of dalbello quantum asolo factorys to try to fit this niche. Light as hell (compared to my xtd130s/xt 130s, unfortunately the 28 shell runs too short for my foot. The flex I would say is a 115ish? I'll be getting rid of them if anyone is interested.

Those Delbello’s look really nice, (I hadn’t even heard of those), but you can’t punch the shell, which is kind of scary for me considering they are a 98 mm last.

That's what worries me a bit about buying without trying. GregL sized up too I believe. What are your other boots/sizes?

They fit the way my 27.5 Langes do. I'd have no issue inbounds skiing them, but need a lil more room for touring. 315mm or 316mm bsl

I normally ski a 26.5 in alpine boots, and measure 27.7 on the Brannock. I have sized up in the TLT5, TLT6, Procline, and Quantum Asolo Factory, though part of it is due to difficulty getting my 114mm wide foot through the Boa-type entrance. As for punching, Dalbello specifically says "no" so you have to find a bootfitter with some courage (same with the Alien RS). The plastic does not turn shiny, but instead gets really dark and has a flat finish when hot - you really need to trust your "finger" to tell you when it's hot enough.

I've been A/Bing Alien RS and F1LT the past 10 days. Three+ seasons, 300+ days on Alien RS. 29 in both / same bsl.

I pulled the smaller / non-elastic booster day 1. I thought it skied worse and added complexity to transitions.

Riff, a few small revisions.

F1 LT: stouter (heavier), less ROM if booster engaged for one flip transition, more powerful (less vague) on initiation by virtue of booster, more complicated entry, slightly more complicated transition (offset by security of not having to worry about cord snapping on top of a line, especially in the spring), a touch wider, improved gaiters (snugger entry, however), more forward lean options, better colorway :).

Already having the Alien RS, I'm not sure the F1LT is a necessary upgrade. Torn on whether to keep them. My Alien RS are pretty beat and I like the cord security, so I likely will.

I'll try and remember to circle back, but I'm not on TGR much these days.

F1 LTs just arrived. I’ve skied the Alien RS about 150 days. Just took the F1 LTs for a little spin around the backyard foothills but no real ski experience in them yet. So not nearly as much experience to compare them as Temagami but another perspective/data point.

Liner seems a littler stiffer/burlier than Alien RS. Slightly more padding around the heel which is a good thing for me. The liner doesn’t have the upper velcro strap which I might miss.

The gaiter seems significantly improved. I actually found it easier to get in/out. It’s shorter than the Alien RS, although the front is a little taller where it comes up and Velcro’s to the liner. It seems reinforced in the area where it tends to delaminate from the shell near the ankle.

Contrary to other opinions out there, walking around on skis I felt no reason to loosen the main buckle Velcro. I tried it and didn’t notice a significant difference in ROM. It felt about the same as the Alien RS walking. Not sure why the different experience in this regard, but I seriously doubt I’ll ever loosen it after setting it in the morning. The power strap definitely adds noticeable stiffness, but only skiing will tell if that’s needed or will feel harsh. Without the power strap, stiffness seems similar to the Alien RS.

The boot has noticeably more height volume than the RS and a bit more metatarsal width, which is consistent with what Scarpa is saying. I’m going to need more shimming to fill up instep space than I did in the RS, even taking into consideration my RS’s packed out liners. I’m still willing to bet that if you don’t fit the Alien RS, it will be the same with the F1 LT. If the RS felt a little tight, the extra room might help. If you have a low volume/low instep foot like me, plan on shimming.

Overall, they seem like a good upgrade to me and I’m psyched to ski them.

I'll be interested to see how the F1 LT compares to the Backland carbon. Seem quite similar.

Maybe not definitive but helpful. Based on this and other reviews, seems like the consensus is the F1 LT skis better. If it fits.

I'm looking to dip my toe in to the 1000g boot market. (see what I did there!).
I tried on the Fischer Traverse and like the fit, but I'm not ready to throw down $900 bucks to see if I like driving skinny skis with a feather weight boot.
I tried on the Traverse CS and understand the Carbon cuff model "CC" has been recalled or is not being made this season?
I read on Blister that the 17-18-19 model was the same. Am I correct to assume the 19/20 was the year with the model change, with a CS and CC model, and then the CC was recalled, so for 20/21 there is only a CS?
I can find a lightly used 2018 model to try these out. Is there anything I should look out for on the 2018 model, or any reason I shouldn't try the older used model for less than 1/3 of a new boot.
I know the normal things to look for like worn inserts and buckles and worn rubber. How did the BOA hold up, or internal gators? anything specific like that to look for?
Lots of questions, but trying to jump into a few unknowns, like 1000g class and a boot brand I have not dealt with before.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but looking for some input on using a 1 kg boot in very, very cold conditions (20k ft in May). Overboots for sure, but wondering what people are doing with the sizing/liners of boots like this to stay warm and maintain ROM. Currently thinking of sizing up and getting a high-volume pro tour liner to take up the space and add warmth. Haven't settled on a boot yet, but based on my foot I'm thinking Alien RS/ F1 LT.

RS is not warm, largely bc of the thin/light liners. If you size up the thick liner might make them ski like shit though. I also have F1s, and they are noticeably warmer, but still not enough for AK, at least in my "performance fit".

Denali in early May will be very cold. I was there in late May through mid June and it wasn't too bad, but I was wearing Spantiks, not ski boots.

Honestly, if you're going fast enough that RSs would be the right boot, you'll prob stay warm enough, but this would leave no room for error. If you aren't going to be charging (like from BC to the summit in 12h), take something a little warmer.

I went at end of May/early June, wore my normal-sized TLT6 with intuitions and was fine. I normally get cold feed too. YMMV, I think I'd probably be ok to do it again in the RS though I would have a lot of concern over the cord failing on that long of a trip, and trying to re-thread/tie it in the cold.

I pulled the trigger on a pair of these lightly used boots. I made an appointment at a shop to try them on again, but when I got there they didn't have them in stock, and said oh, they are in stock at our other shop, 80 miles away...
I tried on the Scarpa Alien RS and really liked the fit of them, but I am going to try the Fischers, I hope my memory of their fit is correct. If they dont work out I'll look for a pair of the Alien RS.

So, Hubbster, did you confirm that the CC is out for this season, and only the CS will be available? Kinda hard to know from the Fischer website. They have the recall up to open the site, but then the CC is still featured.

Ya I couldn't get a straight answer. I have a friend (acquaintance) who is a Fischer rep, I text him and his only response was a link to the CC recall. I guess this what you get for not texting him for 2+ years.

I guess you're right. I see the CC on the recall opener, then only the CS. I saw a Mike Hattrup video showing the line-up, mostly featuring the CC, and I thought it was on their site.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has any strong opinions on the Palau Pro Tour Lite Evo liner or the Intuition pro tour low volume? I've got a new pair of Backland Carbons for work and long traverses and my long skinny feet still have too much wiggle-room so I'm looking for something to take up a little more volume in the boot. I'm not that concerned with more warmth or increased downhill performance, although those will be nice benefits. It's mainly because my left foot is about a half a size larger than my right, so boots that fit my left foot leave my right foot with extra wiggle room. And that wiggle room is giving me a hot spot on my right arch in flatter, rolling terrain. Any suggestions are welcome
