If only Josh Matta was here to boast about the dolphin turn...
Thanks, I looked it up ... looks super wrong in racing, jeez! But I do see the connection with the long radius skis, makes sense.
The video about Ted Ligerty was a really good watch, it is embedded in this article:

So how do you usually launch off for dolphin turns? I see this in Caston's style a lot as well. Is it setting hard edges and then use the energy to bounce off, or rather an up/down movement - esp. lift the tails from the ground?
That snowbird video may be my favorite stoke video of all time.. those are the fuckin days.. if you know, you fuckin know..
The Midwest one? Meh. I grew up there and I didn't see any of those locals really Killin it.. looks more like an excuse to go get wasted (like most Midwestern activities )
re: turns - the first you describe are definitely more of an old school move translated over to new skis, load up ski and release via edge control. For the air turns it's about balance, .. hit bump ,chunder or load up ski with energy while balanced.. use airtime or energy release as opportunity to change edges.. continue shredding. A bit different than chucking dorky ass dolphin turns down groomers but the move 'forward' is def similar.
Psa - I am no instructor just a skier.. and also.. JONG!!
All i see is a skid to dump speed at :25 seconds to drop into Silverfox. Every skier does this right there going from the flat groomer to bumpy steeps, it's called 'throwing the edges sideways to fit through the gate'.
That's because they all moved west in their mid to late teens and killed it there. They chose Buck Hill because of the notoriously stellar kids race program. Rope tows FTW! The ones who didn't get that good, ya, that's them getting drunk and skiing a 6 turn flat GS course. Still some good skiers there.. just boring due to the limited terrain.. gliding skills..
Any of you ever ski the Inferno Murren? Looks like a bucket lister

Wait, they burned James Bond??
Love watching Marcus ski! He's a beast, and that was an awesome and very enjoyable vid - thx for posting!

I skied the course, but not during the race. The switchbacks in the middle are unreal scary. My legs were toast by the time I pulled into Murren.
I guess they used to race all the way down to Lauterbrunnen which is ridiculous.
The Schilthorn out of Murren is amazing skiing, not as touted as lots of "freeride" spots.
That was a great watch
Had no idea the Inferno even existed. Very cool.
You never hear anyone say, "Earn your straight line."
A plaque by the train station in Murren:

Good stuff to pass the time until my turn comes.

will be in Murren at alpenblick in feb thanks buster. Stoked to watch this vid when I get some time.
Say hi to Jeanette from the old American with the ponytail. Be sure to make reservations for dinner, it’s excellent there.
The side country off the schilthorn is fantastic, some spooky entrances
Another tip: If you're going to ski Murren/Schilthorn/Piz Gloria from the Alpenblick, don't bother walking up into Murren. The Alpenblick is a couple of flat blocks downhill from the Murren train station.
The smart move is to take the train back down to the midway at Winteregg and take the Winteregg chair up from there, then the Almendhubel chair and then ski down to the first tram up to Birg, the Schilthornbahn, then the next tram up to Piz Gloria. It's a much longer slog uphill from the train station to the funicular out of Murren.
Watched it last night - great stuff and solid skiing by Marcus coming in 64th
We were in La Grave right before the Derby a few years back. I've always wanted to go back and experience the chaos+party. It seems more like a blend of the Inferno meets Redbull Soapbox race
