Let me suggest a seven week Euro summit from March 2nd-April 20th.
Mulletizer: That Panda rocks! Still have it?
Well I'm bummed this is all happening once I left Europe!?!?!? Damn.
Have fun boys and pray for snow!

cause by the end of today i should have made reservations to go to france from the 15th-29th. searching flights now. any last minute suggestions/advice appreciated. I will probably end up flying into either geneva or lyon and that is my present indecision. Sounds like Lyon is the choice since that will put close to la grave for the key week of 17-24. anyone know is the airport code for lyon, LYS??
I am going to write it off as a PMGear business expense, we are going to test the arno adams poles against a much tougher adversary than the great french extreme skier
his name..........bad_roo!!!;)
lph - you have a PM. Idris - do you still have wheels for us if we show up in Cham first?
Yeah, agreed. I spend 6 years in the damn place and the first time I`m not around (US trip 6th. Jan to 19th. Feb) a maggot summit happens. And I`m leaving the US early enough to miss the Tahoe summit too. Fack :(Quote:

I'm kind of hoping, well, counting on a sort of travelling mini-summit everywhere we go between Jan 6th-Feb 19th. ;) We should be able to figure something out for six weeks of travelling between WA, CA, UT, WY, and CO.Quote:

Splat - our room is pretty full right now but I hear the Castillan and Edelweiss still have rooms for a reasonable rate. You're welcome to use our hot tub. :DQuote:

Anyone who has questions about accommodation is welcome to PM me about it. Replies might be a bit slow until I'm back in front of my own pc (+ADSL instead of 20k dialup) on Saturday but I should be able to point you in the right direction, even help quite a lot.
I advise against Ashurst's place. Just take it from me... Only what I've heard. I'll explain if I meet you.
Telepath: you are most definately from THE OTHER side of the col... ;) Not that there's too much wrong with that :)
Hop: the car's gone. They wouldn't even pay me for it but I got 5 euros for the toolkit and another 5 for the stereo. It is now in the happy car park in the sky.
Anyone ever heard of Karlsquell??? :D :D
:D I had the same thought. And the worse is, I'd have been in Grenoble. Oh well. I did ski La Grave a lot though, so I don't feel that bad ski-wise, except for what really is the nicest part: ski with fellow maggots.Quote:

finally got confirmation from Philippe from Chalets de la Meije. Will need to hit you guys up for some money soon...
Spare place going in Chalet due to brother Samwiching his knee in Tignes. Spoke to Telepath yesterday and he reports good cover in La Grave with fresh tracks in the trees and more snow forecast this week. Result.

Hey...I still need to nail down my ground transport from Lyon...damn I am a slacker. Roo...let me know when and what you need as far as $$$ is concerned. I'd prefer to use my version of the currency converter but I guess we can work out the exchange rate later.;)
I'll do what I can to help if you have questions. PM me.Quote:

STATUS REPORT-
ok, going to be hitting alangna the 15-19, just couldn't turn it down cause it's cheap and sweet. i have one return ticket the 19th, and another the 25th. if it's going off, there's a good chance i'll just go back on the 25th. i would have to head back to turin on the 19th anyways to drop off the gf and then would make my way out from there.
roo- pm me your cell in case the improbable becomes reality.
Utly - check your pm.
Two feet of fluff predicted to fall between now and Saturday morning up top at La Grave. :D
Roo, when we get to La Grave you need to force me to do some tranciever work as I will be popping the cherry on a new Barryvox. Having only used F1's I 'd like to get a bit of practice in.
No worries - I'd be interested in having a look at one of those myself.
Here's a timetable for the bus from Lyon to La Grave. Does this work for you?
http://www.satobus-alps.com/grilles/grave.asp
Alternatively there's a high speed train that leaves for Grenoble at 16:15 arriving at 17:26...
bad_roo - check your PM.
truth - i might be able to help you with a ride from grenoble to la grave, depending when you are arriving. i'll PM you my contact info.
what time is everyone planning to arrive? does anyone want to ski on saturday? if the weather is good, i'd like to ski on saturday. i'll be heading down from lausanne EARLY saturday morning. if the weather is bad, i'll hold off and arrive when the group does.
-Jay
Roo, Ripz,
I arrive in Lyon at 11:00 on the 18th. Not sure how long it'll take me to get through customs and on to grenoble. The 16:30 bus might be the best bet...damn i wish I spoke French.;)
BREWSKI2 ??? I NEED YOUUU !
hey definatly want to go, i even would have a car. but i need someone joining me from germany !!!
has anyone the e-mail of brewski??? because i can not mail him via TGR and he does not show up.
The weatherforecasts totally freak out !!! from Today it is snowing every friggin day until next friday.
this is insane..... at least 50-60cm fresh in the next 48h and look at this precip here in Geneva for the next 7 days(i know it is not la grave, but it was the nearest gridpoint) http://www.wetter-zentrale.de/pics/MS_Genf_avn.gif
I MUST go.
flights are too expensive. 59 there, 59 back....(gas is below 100€ eachwhen you are 2) and the bus from Lyon is 50€(one way !!!) too....Brweski i NEEED you !
Yeah, the 6 day forecast is looking really good (and that map doesn't include the 1-3 day accumulations!). I don't want to say anything more for fear of jinxing it and scaring it away...
http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/alps_full.php
La Grave is getting absolutely leathered at the moment. :D
Very nice.
Over 60 inches forecast for the next week on the glacier at La Grave.[/antijinx]
Truth - your position at TrueIce is looking pretty untenable. ;)
Spoke to some of the boys in La Grave last night. It was still dumping so much that they didn't open the lift (rare in La Grave) on Friday. Unfortunately it was warm and very windy when the snow was falling earlier in the week so there were some really nasty windslabs developing and it was apparently pretty scary on Thursday but they're starting too consolidate a bit now. Looks as if it's going to be going off on this week. Almost tempted to bring my flights forward but am putting my trust in Ullr to come up with the goods. If it's looking dicey I have some skis that I can sacrifice later his week :)
The other good news is that the pub has got its license and opened yesterday - we won't get thirsty. :)
It was all good news from here. Any idea on who I might be able to call about an earlier lift to La Grave from Lyon? The 5 hour wait for the bus is not so appealing.Quote:

Problem you're up against there is that if the flight lands at 11am, you clear customs and get your bags by 12, jump straight into a car and drive the two hours to La Grave, dump your gear at the Chalet and take a shower it'll be knocking on for 3pm in any case. So no skiing on the Sunday. If someone was to drive to Lyon for a pick up it would mean sacrificing their first day on the snow and I'm not sure how many would put their hands up for that one.
Best bet would probably be to get the bus to La Grave unless anybody else is coming that way through Lyon on the Sunday. It'd mean a few hours downtime at the airport but looking at the timings it's tricky to see another way around it.
Which pub is this?Quote:

This could get messy... It's the O Neill, now owned by Langley Travel and Pelle of the Skierslodge. One of my best buds is running it so at least we won't pay full price to be drunk under the table... :)Quote:

Truth: there are lots of buses that go from the airport to Grenoble (1 per hour). Get the first one you can. Then from Grenoble there are lots of buses that get nearly to La Grave (the ones headed to Les Deux Alpes, there are loads on Saturday). Get one of those to the Barrage du Chambon (about 10km down the valley from LaG) and arrange to get to La Grave from there. Either ask someone nicely to drive down to pick you up or hitch. Hitching on that road is very easy, I've even done it with skis and big bags. There are also buses that go from L2A to Serre Che that go through La Grave - you might be able to hop on one of them.
I think your "direct bus" is nothing more than a through ticket for the airport bus to Grenoble and the local bus; if it really costs 50E each way buying two tix separately will save you about 20 notes per journey.
Also, you could try posting on skipass.com in the "covoituirage" section. A post in English might get results - there are always loads of them driving from Grenoble to LG.
