Jay seems to think they're pretty reliable...
It's undoubtedly true that between money, knowledge, and access to people and resources, Jay Leno is better prepared to maintain a car than just about anyone... But in the vid he says that car was his daily driver for 5 years, has 77k on the odo, and has been easy to maintain. He goes on and on about what a simple car it is... Maybe he just got a good one, but I'd think he knows what it is to own a car that's hard to maintain.
If you guys gimme 3k I'll put up 3k and we can buy me an 01 s55
I need it, pleasw

Leno has mechanics, but he also knows his cars and how to keep them running.
I've always been a fan of the Miura over the Countach.

This all day and save 300 bucks. https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/r...481962191.html
Ill put up all the money, and you can pay me 200 bucks a month for 36 months.
If it was an S600, I'd say go for it. Did they ever make FACTORY modded AMG S600s? Given weight, I'd say what's the point? But cool idea. Weight isn't always a huge factor...Bugatti Veyron SS is something like 4600 pounds and "not 'zactly slow"....but an AMG S600 would be NO Veyron.
I like this thread. The only car I've owned that wasn't over 10 years old is my 2002 WRX. It's approaching 300k and won't pass smog unless I replace/rebuild the motor so now I'm thinking about buying some old rwd monster of some sort while I have the engine out of the WRX. I could drive my 1995 F-250 for awhile to try to make it a little more reliable and figure out the electrical problems from sitting around 320 days a year, but an old fast car sounds more fun.
So far, this thread has only a few suggestions I would really consider. I think the Porsche Boxter sounds like the most fun option. The 1981 BMW looks amusing. I'm not really amused by an older Lexus, but it might actually run well. I wouldn't touch any VW/Audi that isn't older than say 1980.
What other fun older cars are there that could be purchased for less than $6k but aren't a complete nightmare? Maybe something smog exempt which would be 1975 or older.
I'm bumping this thread.
Talk me out of buying a '99 pathfinder with the 3.3 and the automatic. For cash, obviously.
Is that the Qx4 body style? One of my first cars was a new '95 SE-V6 (3.0L) Pathfinder with an automatic. Holy fuck did I abuse that car in only the way a 16 year old could. Absofuckinglutely bullet-proof. It's still the only car that I would consider finding and restoring to this day. Pure love.
Do it.
Pretty sure that one has the smaller engine, but still a bullet proof rig.
Thanks, guys. Think I might pull the trigger on it.
both of my cars are now >10yrs (05 Element with 177k, 03 911 C2 with 71k). Had the Element for over 10k miles now and it's been great. Off road better than expected with the short wheelbase, I've put in a new battery, semi-permanent camping platform, roof rack and a $70 electrical part that failed. Averaging about $30/month in maintenance to date with heavy use on long trips and on rough terrain. Fantastic value and she's paid off :).

The 350z didn't fit the dog comfortably so there wasn't much choice involved, onward and upward ;). 2 more years to the beginning of 'classic' status. If I have to buy a new motor so be it. Many of the older 911s have either had a rebuild or have one pending, it kind of comes with the territory. Currently have a 997 shifter in transit along with minor parts to remove signs of wear. Put on new pilot sports in front and learning how she behaves when the rear breaks loose. SoCal treated her well the last decade.

Elements are God awful to look at, but apparently they sold like hot cakes.
Nice 911 Bro. Congratulations.
thanks, will post some pics once I get done with some stuff. Elements are just great value for the utility, without it I wouldn't have the C2. Have a full dealership inspection next week. There's a permanent, bearing-less IMS job you can get done in Bellevue, Portland, LA or AZ. Planning to do that once the inspection items are cleaned up. It costs maybe 800 more than a retrofit at the local dealer, and doesn't need to be replaced every 75k mi.
Getting our '96 911 cab back this week after a SAI - related rebuild. That was kinnnnda spendy, ouch. But it should be good to go for a long time now.
good luck, sounds like a nice ride. Took mine out to Antelope Island today for a hike, fun roads.
normally don't like cabrios but the 993 pulls it off well.

Thing's cherry now, it used to be my wife's DD for about 4 years, she got a new car finally and I've been pimping that thing. Kinda oddly, I never drive it except to test it or check shit out. It's her ride.
Not all at once, but:
New roof and motor. New clutch. New suspension Inc wheels and tires. New carpet. New stereo. Painted. Detailed to a completely insane level. And a complete engine rebuild by the local Porsche savants. Etc etc
So fuck yeah it should run good for a while.
Lucky for her you're up to the task of breaking in the rebuild. It's a selfless job right?
Ha, I put up with driving it for her.. Someone's gotta do it.
I like that shit. She doesn't get what went into it but she does look hot driving it so hey.
and wow that's a lot of updates, it should be near mint for a while. You should bring it out to PC cars & coffee if it's out this way.
It's on the EC, it probably won't get out there but it represents wherever at this point. 96k on the clock is the downside but I can't do much about that.
Sweet refresh Ice.
Found a pic of my beast Pathfinder in another thread while surfing today (not my exact one, but looked just like it 'cept mine had stock nerf bars and no rust)
DO IT.

I'll try to remember to put some pics up when we get it back.
Here's a Monday afternoon temptation. '97 Land Cruiser, 130k miles. Cherry looking. I think the asking price is about $10 grand too high (or maybe I'm wrong) but I'd be really tempted to email them an offer in the $7-8k range just to see if they'd bite.

Better use of $10 grand? This high mileage LC that's nearly 20 years old or a '07 BMW 335i with 65k miles? My 335 is getting really long in the tooth and I like the e90 body so much more than the current f bodies.
Not 10 but close Im looking at DD to replace my SmogWagon. Should these things run for like 300k?
007 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E63 AMG 4dr Sedan 7 Speed Automatic Transmission Blue 132043 MILES 507 Horsepower 6.2L V8
Those 80 Series LCs and LX450s are a different animal. They bring big money. Well... Bigger than most would expect.
That dealer seems to have quite a few in stock. I doubt they will be low balled.
Don't by anything AMG unless it's just wheels and trim. AMG suspension is bone stiff and the cost of maintenance and repair is crazy. The AMG engines are known to blow a lot of oil. I've driven several: C43, E55, S63, CL63 and have always preferred the regular version.
Just wading through the MercedesSource youtube series on buying a 10-15 year old Mercedes. So far nothing groundbreaking, but interesting anyway...
Edit: never mind... this guy's just rambling. Nothing unique about looking for an MB. All common sense used car buying stuff, delivered using as many words as possible.
thanks B, the thought did pop in my mind! Put in a new shifter tonight off a newer model, big improvement. If that solution thing needs to be installed I'll go for Bellevue & get in touch :).
