The unmistakable scent of fall was heavy in the air yesterday morning on my hike, and the first hints of gold are starting to show in the higher altitude vegetation. Summer has peaked and the long, gradual slide toward autumn has begun.
Hmmm, OKAttachment 336795
Yeah... I'm trying.
Now I've got a sick horse. Had the vet out yesterday on an emergency call (Sunday=$$$$$$). She thinks he's had a heat stroke and now can't thermoregulate. He's all kinds of messed up. She had to ask me that horrible question: "Is this a horse you would send to WSU for treatment?" In otherwords "is he worth the money to save?" Can life get any more fucked up at the moment? Probably shouldn't ask. Lost another barn cat last week too.
Yup, sorry KQ. I hope your horse is doing better today. Get a keg tub full of ice and rub that horse down.
+++vibes KQ.
Sorry to hear, KQ.
I hope everything gets cooler in all senses.
Positive vibes sent your way, KQ......In other news, Phoenix breaks record for number of days over 110*.........34 and counting. Fuck that.

Thanks for all the thoughts everyone. Still trying to figure out what's going on with him. Treating him for an ulcer right now. He's not a happy boy. So hard when animals are sick. I imagine it's worse with kids but at least they reach and age where they can tell you what hurts.
In weather news: That's brutal seano. We're on tap for three days of 100+ temps this weekend flanked by upper 90s on either end. Ugh. Yesterday it rained - cloudy and 71. It was pure heaven.
Relocate the farm to Sequim?
jah. Moar sun than W2, warmer winters, cooler summers, skiing at Hurricane...
I'm wearing 2 jerseys and a vest to mtn bike, its been raining all summer, you must have hogged all the summer
this weekend looking to be hot as balls in my hood
Me too - actually at least 7 days of 105 +/- highs. Making up for a relatively mild summer.
Boom!!!! The heat finally showed up. Next 10 days are mid 80's which is 90 in the house without the AC going 24/7. Time for SDG&E to make some money off me for the next month.
49 degrees here this morning. Crazy weird.
Our basement bedrooms are 59 degrees in the summer. It's a great sleeping temp but the kids like to complain about it every so often.

We started our MTB ride today at 0730 - temp was 45*
We finished at 0945 - temp was 75*
Reached a high of 96
Low of 64 tonight
Gonna be same Sunday and Monday, only hotter at sunrise
And it’s hotter in Paradise
It's been in the 50s in the morning here and I have a similar m.o. where the highest window in the house has a fan that blows out the air all night with the ground floor windows cracked. Then I'm up at 6:00 am and open up the ground floor windows with fans blowing air in. I shut up the house around 8:00 am and today with it 84F at 15:30 it was 67F inside and only got up to 70F by 19:30 when it got to be 70F outside.
7000’ in the central Sierra
45° at night
80° max during the day
my apartment is in a concrete basement so it stays nice
81° @ 10am
Pffft - it was 83 this morning at 6 AM with 72% humidity, with thunder.
This is not right.
98 here right now. Glad I've got air conditioning!
That's what we do - no A/C - and it works almost all the time, so long as the overnight temp drops to low 60s. Yesterday, and today in particular (smoke), it's not cutting it. 90* in the daytime, only dropped to 70* last night, so it's about 80* indoors now.
On that note, does anyone here have a portable swamp cooler unit? I was looking at those on Amazon. Don't know if they are effective...
Dunno, do you like moist swampy air?
Generally speaking, evaporative/swamp coolers are best thought of as last resort, or at best a pre-cooler where you're not exposed to the listeria that comes off them.
