Holy shit.
Most hackers on the hill these days have no clue the acceleration that can be generated from a well executed turn. Awesome viewing angle. Fun to watch...and yummy also.
Yeah, that vid was sweet.
On FB, when she commented about racing this weekend, somebody posted "Please don't take too many risks!" Her response: "My job is to take risks. My knee is 100%."
BOOM.
Go gurl!
Not a bad return...

Too bad she is going to run out of events before she can retake the lead in the slalom standings.
she's not even 21 but already is #2 in total wins for a US women, wow. And the fact that she's not even 21 makes me feel dirty. ;)
Such a beast....saw her at the Westin working out, super strong. I'm old and weak.
She is unbelievably good. Tied with Tamara McKinney for #2 all time US ski team WC wins behind Vonn.
and still smoking the field. Wins yesterday's slalom by over 2 seconds.
No sign of slowing down. How many slaloms are left this season?

On the hill isn't the only place she's got moves. This girl can dance. Originally posted at Unofficial Networks.

She's a hottie.
Caught her second run on tv yesterday and the announcer said it perfectly. "It looks like she's running a different course than the other racers"...or something like that...but it was so true. This girl is unreal.
Mikaela completed the season with only 5 Slalom races. However, her pure dominance was incredible.
She won every slalom she entered by an average margin of 2.11 seconds! The closest being Crans Montana (.45 seconds) that looks to have been a relatively easy course since everyone was pretty fast (see margin from second to 3rd).
The average margin between 2nd and 3rd is 1/9 of her winning margin. That is ridiculous.

Yup, and in the GS Sunday, she had an early 0.76 lead before spinning out.....
Won the US championships in Sun Valley by....6.73 seconds! That's not human.
Performance Enhancing Drugs is the ONLY explanation. Either that or she is really a man.
Big ole bag of dicks I am:

I've never seen a more perfect skier.
“When I ski, it’s like a song. I can hear the rhythm in my head, and when I start to ski that rhythm and I start to really link my turns together, all of a sudden there’s so much flow and power that I just can’t help but feel amazing.”
—Mikaela Shiffrin
I can imagine she heard the rhythm in her head during these runs...pure pendulum perfection...wow.
Just amazing to watch that level of flowing dynamic balance on the feet.
Poetry in stance angles.

This video really shows the flow.

Here is her GS win from yesterday with a .73 margin over 2nd place Stiegler.
Flashback to her first world slalom cup podium when she was only 16 years old. Goosebumps.
There are some athletes who are truly transcendent and I think she is one of them. We're talking about something on the level of Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Woods or Michael Phelps. It is astonishing when people like this can be that much better than other athletes that are themselves considered the elite athletes in the sport.
^^^ Especially as times progress. I read an article about how for example when an athlete pioneers something, they can be far ahead of the other competitors, but then of course, the competitors copy what they're doing. Now with video, etc. it's much easier to replicate the "new" process. She doesn't seem to be doing something that is easily copied. (There are lots of kids putting forth youtubes of Currie's dribbling warm-up for example.)
I think this is often where that other worldly talent comes into play. Typically these types of athletes aren't necessarily bigger or stronger than other athletes, they just have off the charts proprioception. They have an innate "feel" for the snow, water, whatever. There was a kid I swam with last year (he's now at Stanford) who had this gift. When you watched him swim it looked like he was exerting about half the effort of everyone else in the pool.
1st slalom of the year, first win. Beast....
2nd in the GS a few weeks back too
10/10
This is how it's done kids. She is so natural it's fucking ridiculous. Cruises the SL course. You haven't yet and won't soon again see any other skier race like this for a long time.
My video link does not work
Psyched to see her race at Killington.
