I love sharing photography too. Are there any other platforms good for that?
I follow at least a dozen photographers on Instagram, pros and amateurs. Seems to work fine for them as a platform to show their work.
Has anyone else here just cut the social media cord?
I cut Zuck stuff a long time ago now. I was still on, not posting, twitter until musky bought, then ditched that too. I have this place, Strava, YouTube...not that the latter two really count as social I suppose.
Random question for you all but would you be proud of your kid if they became an “influencer”? It seems so many kids today don’t want to have any semblance of a career in something and just want to be paid to post about products. Seems so vapid even if they somehow can pay the bills.
It's not as easy as it looks, especially as the space becomes more and more diluted. If my daughters wanted to do something like that I wouldn't have a problem, as long as they were sharing useful information and not exploiting their bodies. That shit is pretty deplorable.
Yeah, I’d feel the same way about my daughter exploiting her body if she was older and on social media. It’s pretty crazy to do that and have thousands (or millions) of horny men basically only following you in the hopes you’ll show off more. How are these companies everywhere convinced they’re getting a ROI in these “influencers”?
I'm not sure but you can bet they are tracking it closely. I know a lot of sponsored athletes (like Cody Townsend) have voiced displeasure that outdoor gear companies are putting more of their marketing dollars into social media and less into the top athletes. And then you have some of the "bigger" influencers with the most followers now complaining that companies are deciding not to pay them money anymore and instead just offering free gear to a larger number of "minor" influencers. Seems like the whole thing is still getting figured out as to what works best.
I do think that as social media becomes more and more of a vehicle for ads, fewer people will use it, and that could cause another shift. Who knows..
I just was told that a house in my neighborhood...one of five with an unobstructed view of Monterey Bay...is owned by a relatively young couple who are influencers. They paid 2.4 for the house in '21. Apparently it's working for them. You have to wonder how long it will last.
Personally I don't understand the draw to these non-athlete influencers. The chicks flaunting their bodies...I understand how they get clicks, but everyone else...what the ?
Yeah, all I hear from people these days about social media is how sick of ads they are. It’s got to shift I’d think.
Yeah, I don’t get the draw either. It’s just bizarre.
A college acquaintance is very active on IG and uses her 3 kids in all her posts/videos that are basically ads (she calls herself a content creator). I cannot wrap my head around using your own kids and posting online publicly, promoting certain products on a daily basis.
Ok which one of you is this
