Today's fish. Not bad for 35-40 knots of wind. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ea1c61cf53.jpg
Big one is 100.
Well, I put one of those swishing thrashing rods on the boat for stripers. Friend works at Cabelas and they had an 8wt on sale for $49. Reel was also $49. I guess an 8wt might qualify for the Big Hook thread. Ended up with more in the backing and leader than in the rod/reel. Picked up a couple of fluffy white things with a hook in the middle too.
Anyway, after learning to shoot a sinking line, we headed out to the striper grounds. First time out we managed 6 total. Brian got one, I got five. Largest about 8 pounds. No monsters, but fun.
Brian on his first hookup.

Got to go for a fun trip with the other captains. Overnighter hog city. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e90859b4cb.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e532425709.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9a1ecd4879.jpg
Northern lights were crazy.

Hard to tell but the halibut laying on the ground were between 50 and 80 pounds.
Getting an engine inspection on this beast on Friday.
We needed a bigger boat. Time to get my shark rods ready.

Damn dude, that's a big step up. I enjoyed the shit out of the trip you took me 2years ago.
You gonna go full retard and put a tower on it?
Yup, 339 WA.
No dive door though, which is the only box it didn't check.
Pretty much the best combo of fishing/cruising/kid boat I could find.
Outboards are a must here, so that did limit my choices.
Deal is done tomorrow at 9.
Cross your fingers for me please.
I tend to over research and under pay. It has worked out so far.
Hoping this one will be the same.
It is a boat though.
Fishy pics some day soon.
I think you know the answer. Tarpon are here in May/June.
I might have figured out how to drive this beast by then.
Friend has a 37' Freeman with Quad 300 Yammies on it. Guess it qualifies. They dragged it to Venice, Louisiana and had a few good days. Here is the best.

Awesome! What a striper! Released??
Wow. When I lived in TN, getting one 30# striper was quite a successful fishing trip. Seems like nothing compared to those catch rates. I guess a lot has changed since I left. There's big trout in the tail waters instead of just put-n-take dinks. Huge stripers in quantities my old man would never dared dream of. And a trophy musky fishery threatening to crush all the old midwestern records. Do you ever go over to Melton Hill for musky?
Yeah, we were very lucky. Typically in that river we figure if we get two a day we have done real well. Granted they will usually be in the 40 pound range, but it's tough fishing.
Never done the musky trip. Keep threatening to, but never have. Have a friend of a friend that wears them out at the Bull Run steam plant in the winter, but I have never given it a shot. Need to.
The brown trout in the South Holston are now all native as they haven't stocked any in the river in over 10 years. The close two sections in the winter breeding period that apparently produce all the trout needed. They are now saying based on sampling surveys that there are around 9,000 fish per mile in the river. Supposedly one of the best trout rivers east of the Mississippi. Local guide that is kind of hated got this one last night on a mouse patterned fly. Says it was over 30" and probably 15-16 pounds.

We have a two week season here for paddlefish. Got a 50 and a 51 pounder. Both released to continue their mating rituals.

Looks like a catfish that told too many lies. Best to throw it back.
The irony of catch and release snagging is too much for me.
Post a pic of the other side of the fish.
I was going to say something similar.
Maybe if you sight fished a plankton fly I’d be almost impressed.

planktonflies.... im a microscopic fly fisherman
Option #2 is take them home to the smoker.
https://www.misshomemade.com/paddlefishrecipes.html
option 3 - take the roe, cut off the paddle for a trophy, chuck that bitch over the gunwale for the turtles.
Back in the late 70's I was working for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. This particular day they had me working as a creel clerk. Ran into my first paddlefish that had been caught by a commercial fisherman. About 100 pounds or so. At that time, Russia had an embargo on caviar. He was excited because the fish would bring him several hundred bucks.
Not a fishing boat but...all new big block G2's on our local ski team tow boat - a twentiesh foot Dyna-Ski. Rerigged and converted from the old school 90 degree big block Etecs the last few years. The middle engine is actually a 225 but for continuity they changed the back panel so they would match, the front panel is correct so it says 225 HO when you look at it from inside the boat. The dealer decides what HP goes on the boat based on what he has sold/thinks he can sell. My old man at the throttles. The coolest part is the fully integrated screen/display on the dash. So awesome.
