At 08h00 Tuesday, Leysin is currently windy and cloudy.
This storm penetrated the other system that has been here awhile.
Hopefully it pushes the high/dry pressure out of here and paves the way for snow now, and from future storms too.
Get the stoke going. My snow dance is paying off.
8:58am Tues here in the Chartreuse mountains and it is snowing above about 1000 meters. It should make it over the Belledonne towards la Grave.

well this first wave will bring 20-30cm of snow maybe more in certain areas (cham ..). it wll hit the west best.
the next wave will follow thursday /friday bringing more to the whole northern Alps.
it won't stop snowing until sunday and may go on even further.
The usual spots like Arlberg etc. should see more than 1m until Sunday.
Avalanches will be an issue so stay on the groomed or deep in the forest.

this weather pattern could result in a decent coverage. so maybe im going down on the 27th-30th....
It is snowing in Leysin (1264m at my place) since about 09h30, Tuesday.
I watched the storm come across from the West/South West.
That will be my last snow report until I see 50cm fresh.

As for off piste, take care all. Av is one thing, but coverage is another.
There wasn't much coverage so far this year, only about 1m total accumulation.
I teach all day tom/Wed, thus I will be skiing on Thursday onward.

Posted this over on another thread but the storm that was supposed to kill the suisse alps either hasnt arrived or didnt appear. Some small flakes in town but +6 and melting. They turned on the town fountain. I see some scattered flakes now so maybe it is moving in.

Pow skiing tomorrow.
As Snowfire reported, we descended Gd-St-B with fresh and plenty of blowing snow. From 2200m and above: all mountains disappear.
From Martigny to Lac Leman I had occasional showers. I rounded Lac Leman past Lausanne on the way home to Geneve. I can report: Heavy, heavy rains and high winds slowed all traffic to 100-110 kph. Storm has arrived!!! :biggrin:

I did predict that I would bring snow to the suisse, just like the canadiens, but I must learn this naked snow dance.

snow levels may rise in western swiss up to 1500m again on thursday, but the second wave hitting friday looks massive. :D
models predict 20-25mm of precip in 6 hours.( but it will snow the whole day......giving much much more in 24h.)
which would result in at least 25-30cm snow in the same time :D
concerning the high mountains these values might be at least 50% more :D woohooo 5-6cm per hour..... or more.
Add up these 6hour values for geneva until the 23rd!!!! more than 100mm of precip down in geneva ! :D (warning this pic will only reflect the outrageous and extatic state of mind of the poster until 11pm cet.)

Snowing on and off when I went to Grenoble at 5pm, temperature about 2C. Very heavy snow at around 500 meters and the ploughs were working hard. Looks like a good dump today.Quote:

Central switzerland /Berner Oberland and the northeast got up to 35-40cm already.
But the first wave wasn't supposed to bring more than 30cm in most areas so Verbier is just at the average. The second wave hitting tomorrow should be more fun ;) and the one on sat/sun.....too :yourock: :yourock: hrr hrr

120mm+ of precip forecasted. and thats a conservative prediction. 100cm of snow will fall in most areas. 150 should fall at some places. more could be possible :eek:

My timing is just always off! If I had delayed my trip to St.Anton by one week, I would have been skiing neck-deep pow instead of ruining my G4's on a rock onthe backside of Valuga.
The good thing is that this will give a great base for later in the season...
I think I will have to look for cheap flights to zurich at the end of next week...

I can get cheap flights to geneva. Does anybody know about bus/train rides or other ways to get to Chamo, Verbier, at night (at about 11pm from the airport) and rides back so I can catch a flight at 8pm sunday? Or maybe how I can get this info. Thanks.
i've just been out in Morzine for a few days and it chucked it down on wednesday, and looked like it was going to carry on for at least a few days more.
