Zappa at the Aragon brawl room.
Panty tour.
Great show.
My God, Mike, if you're 55 I must be really old.
1978 working at Sunshine Village heard talk of a new ski area being expanded north of Vancouver. General opinion was no one will be interested, too much rain and a big garbage dump near the bottom of the hill. Turns out they were wrong about Whistler.
Kind of the same as who would want to live in a old shitty mining town like Canmore.
I’m so old I remember waiting in line for gas on odd/even days ;)
First concert - Bruce Springsteen/Born in the USA tour. Thanks Mom!
Rode the single at Stowe with a blanket
Skied on Olin Mark lll
My first concert was the Dec., 1968 Miami Pop Festival:
December 30, 1968 Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino, Broward County, FL ("Miami Pop Festival", with Canned Heat, Jose Feliciano, The Turtles, Iron Butterfly, The Grass Roots, Jr. Walker and The All Stars, Ian and Sylvia, Charles Lloyd Quartet, Sweet Inspirations, Sweetwater, The Joe Tex Revue)

I saw them on that same tour at the San Diego Sports Arena in June, 1987.
Due to some well publicized “rap riots” earlier that spring security was beefed up. It was the first time at a concert that I had a wand metal detector waved over me at the gate to get in. My Mom was freaking out about me & my buddy going to the show as she thought her 19 year old baby (me) was going to get shanked. No fights, no violence as the crowd was overwhelmingly white surfer kids. I still have that ticket stub.
I just happened to watch The Individualist last night on DVD. All you Gen Beastie dudes should check it out if somehow you missed it.
Warthog created a thread a couple years back.

OK, first bindings?
Until I bought my 1st pair of skis, Spademan bindings with runaway straps, which no one bother to tell us what they were for. Figured it about about 1/2 way through the 1st session when a lone ski went mach looney down the trails and into the liftline.
Then when I bought skis, Look 77Ns. When I started patrolling I switched to Sollys for ease in/out. 727s.
My first bindings were Look Nevada toes with a cable heel that ran to a cam lock in front of the toe. On 210cm Head 360 skis
Second set was Nevada toe and Explodamat heel.
Don't know the brand but they were Bear Trap style with cables.
My first pair of skis at 30 were the the K2 fours red white and blue Flipped those and got the mod dampening Then pontoons

Rode the lift with a random person this morning, said "Morning", reply was Good Morning Sir.
not really in an area where sir, mam, etc are prevalent.
^^^Military guy.
maybe. He really didn't have that air about him, but I'll take it, since it means I'm not old then.
First skis were no name wooden skis from the local department store, with no name cable bindings and no name lace up leather boots. As good as anything for skiing SE Michigan. Speaking of SE Michigan--MC5 at the Grande Ballroom. I turned a friend on to them the other day--Kick Out the Jams. She couldn't believe they were a 60's band--the ultimate protopunk band. I saw Iggy and the Stooges there too.
ditto... with lace up leather boots on wood skis with screwed on metal edges.

was teh pinnacle of ski ski design for decades to come till the obvious perfection of the soul7 made it'd glorious debut in 2013...
fact.
Spademan plates on Head metal skis with 120 feet of vert and a rope tow at Pine hill NJ. Frank Zappa at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia
All sorts of fun thread drift in this one.
Someone mentioned riding a single at Stowe and using the wool blanket. I too used the wool blanket, but at MRG. Managed to not strangle myself. Rode the first chairlift at Sugarloaf which is long gone.
My old man had some Spademans on some K2 Comp 5's Great ski. Bindings not so much. That was a weird era for bindings. The Cubco, the Besser plate, the Burt (I think) that would release but was held on by cables
Boston, "More Than a Feeling" my first show in '78.
Northland skis with paint-on bases and screw-on edges; bear trap bindings with cable throw heels, leather double lace up ski boots; rope tow over-mitts; rope tow at Fauhnstock (sp?) NY, maybe 50 vert.
This year my sister and I will celebrate 65 years of skiing together.
I do remember the blankets on the Stowe single chair... yeah, I am old.
I sanded off the paint on my skis and pine tarred them and waxed them. Replaced the bindings with Silvretta cable bindings that held my mountaineering boots and could be set for heel lift or heel held down. My first BC set up. I think I used it about twice and got a skinny skis tele setup.
I had those Siverettas on my first BC set up, on Fisher 77s. Used them for some memorable multi-day tours in California - the Sierra, Lassen, Shasta… My first long ski trip was from Dodge Ridge into the Emigrant Basin, then out to Pinecrest.
First concert was Jefferson Airplane.
Leather boots, cable bindings, wood skis with screwed in edges, bamboo poles. Somewhere WNY
James Gang long before Joe Walsh got Eagle wings, Cactus opened, Davis Gym Alfred U way upstate
Holy Crap...just the mention of the Besser Plate will give me nightmares for a while. My first binding, Besser Glass (fiberglass) That upward toe release was responsible for so many yard sale accidents. In the bumps, Im not sure which would have been worse, all the dozens of crash's (daily) of something worse once in a blue. moon.
