Remember Michael Charity Race
Just wanted to post a bulletin alerting the community to a great event for an even better charity. The Remember Michael Ski Race @ Windham Mountain (Catskills, NY) benefits the Adapative Ski Foundation helping both the physically and mentally challenged overcome obstacles on and off the mountain. They have recently partnered with the Wounded Warrior foundation to assist in the Rehabilitation of Soldiers injured in the line of fire. The race was established to celebrate the life of a good friend taken too soon... While the race itself is fun, the party begins at the finish line mid-mountain with copious adult beverages for contestants and continues into the night with a goolash style dinner and concert by an always fun band. Come on up and support a good cause!

anyone up for going tomorrow, 6am?
thinking belleayre or hunter, should be lots of freshies to be found.
Windham was fun, snowed all day... hopefully you got on it.
nah, didn't get any interest and didn't have access to a car. 'tevs. maybe hunter tomorrow. how did the woods look, are they skiable?
Putting the call out again, let's go skiing.
wow, i guess everyone is out in Utah or still drunk from Sundays party at Sway.
I might be interested ml. Supposed to be making the trip up to VT but there's a chance it will fall through.
Sundays at Sway are clutch.
i knew someone was going to get on this as soon as I had some work.
Next week is still in a holding pattern, if you want to do a day trip i'm sure there will be at least one opportunity, PM me.
I'm good for any day this week or next. Anyone? Anyone? The catstills ski season's life span is on the horizon!
Oh, and hey - I'm looking for a ride up to the Adirondack Backcountry Ski Festival in Kenne Valley, NY the weekend after next. Anyone going? Also looking to split a room.

Hey gm. Any interest in Windham on Sunday? I don't have transportation (thinking nycski.com), but it'd be nice to have someone to ski with.
windham is teh suck, i'm highly endorsing any catskills alternative.
Really? I've heard it was better than Hunter. I'm down for whatever I can get to.
Hey, I'm going to hop the Emilio's ski bus tomorrow to Mt. Snow. Yeah, it's kind of lame, but there's snow and they have a woods always open policy. Anyone interested?
Skis - never been to Wyndham, but will take skiing any way I can get it.
Greg
windham is flat, they don't take care of the snow. really, nothing to ski there. we had a very dispointing mini there in december.
hunter is more crowded on weekends, but better terrain, better snow, closer.
belleayre and plattekill are tops if woods etc are your thing. fewer lines, more natural.
yes all skiing is good, this is just my interpretation.

monday will be the day to ski south if the forecast i just saw holds up. can't imagine the woods being so great anywhere tomorrow after the rain and hard freeze. i'm sure it will still be fun regardless.
Yeah - I'll take it where I can get it. I'll let you know how Mt. Snow holds up.
Now that I've skied Windham, I can say that it's true that they don't take care of the snow, but it's no flatter than Hunter and it has longer runs. I think we can all agree that they both suck.
Anyone headed up to take advantage of tomorrow's potential powder day?
Hmm. Looks like NYC is forecast to get dumped on more than upstate.
skis etc,
i'm down for a 6am trip to hunter tomorrow. The west side is open and i remember those runs being 1500' sustained steeps. If they groom and get some fresh on top, it should be worth the trip.
PM me. I can pick up en route from BK.
How was Hunter? I'm debating hopping the Adirondak trailways bus tomorrow morning to Belleayre to check out the woods.
Mt. Snow Sunday was hard, icy and cold for the first half of the day, but I had a good time. Woods - although not soft - turned out to be the most fun. Occasional pockets of good snow.
hunter was 8-12 of blower over edgeable crust.
great skiing really. and really cold. had some faceshots in huge drifts and amazing runs on annapurna and K27. no lines at all. tried the woods, but found lots of shit just under the surface, so i got back on the trail. belleayre gets more snow than hunter, but i would still head back there because you're probably not getting in the woods much tmo if you like your skis, they really need another dump but this snow will help soften things everywhere.
For what it's worth, I'll plus one for Windham. Steeper than a lot of VT mountains (ie. Okemo), good town (less long island, more vt feel), and a generally good vibe.
Charity race up there this weekend. www.remembermichael.com. $65 gets you two nastar runs, lift ticket, and equipment rental if you (or more likely your +1) needs it. Free booze at the bottom of the course, and an epic dinner and concert that night for $10 or so more. All proceeds support the Adaptive Sports Foundation.
We should have plenty of cars heading up if a lift is needed.
I'm going to hit the Advanced tour Sunday morning and then ski Whiteface Monday. If anyone wants to split a room or rental car from Albany (leave @ Albany @ about 7pm, return to Albany Monday eve), let me know.
Rental car = ~ $60 + gas

don;t mind me, just a long time lurker....
gmdesigner, just wondering which bus were you on to Mt Snow on sunday? I was on the bus that left from 86th street. first bus trip to VT for me and it worked out okay.
I was on the bus that went from Brooklyn and Queens. I was surprised how packed they were considering the conditions.
i think we were all hoping that the snow storm that eventually came yesterday would have come earlier-like sunday morning and reach further north-of course i was wrong on all accounts.....but the skiing was okay-classic New England conditions. maybe people bought tickets before the rain storm on friday because conditions were pretty excellent all around the north east the prior weekend. or maybe the rain wasn;t going to be THAT bad.....just amazing what 1 bad day and a deep freeze can do to trash the snow.
I was at Belleayre on sunday 2-22 and it was a pretty awesome powder day. good luck on whatever future trips you do. maybe I will see you on a future bus trip.
Yeah - I'll do more bus trips before this season is over. I'll post em here before I go.
Anyone interested in doing Tucks this spring?
Absolutely. Never done it before, but looking into it. How do you usually get up there? Skinning Shurburne (sp?) trail seems like a good way--I just need to get setup for AT, which I'm working on.
I've seen black diamonds! - let me know when you're thinking.
Skis - yes Sherburne
there are going to be plenty of mags hitting tux 4/25 as per the EC thread. I'll probably go twice this year.
i'm going up with some non-mags in middle april. would like to go april 25th but its not going to work out for me.
I'd have interest in doing Tuck's although it would be a first for me. Other then timefortuckerman.com, tuckerman.org, friendsoftuckerman.org, and the search function on this forum anyone have any resources for a first timer? Thanks.
that should get you started....there are some AMC books if you want to search amazon.
Those maps were sick (and I it might be the long week but I see less green and more red on the windham side)...
That being said, Windham doesnt have $hit for woods skiing whereas a great time can be had at Okemo...
Is anyone driving anywhere from NYC this weekend? Resort? Backcountry?? I'm also up for splitting a rental car. I need to ski this weekend.
