WAY overrated. All fancy shmancy phone+mp3+internet+handjob gizmos are.

Whats the point? So you can carry a tiny little amount of music on it, and use the internet on a tiny little screen. Sorry, but if you can't stand to be away from the internet for a few hours, then you have a problem.

my comment was not that it's overrated for its features, but that the hype has gone beyond belief. i spent last week in silicon valley and the iPhone was all everyone talked about.

Sync is essential.
If iPhone is supposed t take on some of the blackberry/treo market, it needs to sync.

How can it be an iPod device if it doesn't sync? Are they expecting it only to have subscription music and not your home catalog?

I wonder how hard it'll be to sync to online calendars and contacts such as google.

and when they say "no sync", I'm sure that you can still sync to itunes. Just not to outlook..

You have to admit, that's attractive pricing. I'm an existing AT&T customer with their standard data plan. The iPhone plan will be a wash. Same-Same.

These :eek:'s at the lack of ifeatures are funny. No features = they are not shooting for the business market. Get Blackberry if you want outlook/wifi/.../.../...

Cool kids of the iPhone target market care not about accessing their email 24x7. iThink iPhone will go platinum like the new Linkin Park CD.

Hmmmm....confused. I'm not getting one, but as an existing customer, I still see the 2 year minimum contract fine print below. Maybe a 2 year Data package? Then the Unlimited data will only set you back $960 plus activation, taxes, etc.

although, I wouldn't mind voice recognition to text interface - so I could "read" my voicemail. I'd get through shit a lot faster that way. Technology is probably not there yet.

it will sync, it'll just require a cable to sync

there sure seem to be a lot of business people interested in it for a device not aimed at them......

according to this, it can sync to outlook thru itunes on windows, much like syncing to mail/address book on a mac. we'll just have to see how well they can pull that off...

I for one think this is a great feature. No more listening to 5 voicemails that you know the people had nothing to say when you just want to get to the first one. With the visual voicmail, just skip to the important ones, listen and then get to the others when you have time.

Consider how voice mail works on most phones. You've been skiing all day and when you grab your phone you find that you have seven voice mails. You were waiting for one important call, but you need to go through them one at a time in order they were received.

If you have visual voicemail (like on the iPhone) your voice mails will be shown on the screen in a list (like they were email) and you can select which one you want to listen to first, second, etc, or even delete ones right away if you see it's that annoying sales guy phoning again.

Just a little thing, but a handy feature.
